  1. I've been on a little binge lately and also finally have a new scanner. So, here are some new acquisitions over the past month; Eerie # 87 (Frazetta Cover)
  2. I watched it at the end, as well. I think there were 5 bids in the last 6 seconds and as you point out the price doubled in that short time.. I talked to Mike about why it went for so little cash and we agreed that the printing defects probably turned many folks off despite the 9.0 grade. There's another 9.0 kicking around on ebay for quite some time with a fixed price of $6500.
  3. Damn I wanted that one!!! I just don't spend enough time on the computer to snipe auctions and I never got any sniping software. (Probably just as well - living on a fixed income can be a drag...). In any event, congrats again (# 7 trilogy being the most recent)!!! I decide to stop at #32 which was the last issue I intended to buy, but never bought until many years later. About half of my 1-32 are original purchases...
  4. Does anyone actually use the metric system in their day to day life? If someone asks me how tall I am or how much I weight I still don't reference kilos or meters and if I did people would probably would look at me funny. Carry on. More people use it now than they did 30+ years ago when they switched over. We started to learn Metric Conversion 50+ years ago in Grammer School. The only thing that stuck with me was 2.34 centimeters per inch. After 50 years the only time I ever use it is when buying a 750ML bottle of Bourbon.
  5. ....what a pretty 8.5.....who needs a 9.4 with a copy like that ? It's easily one of my top 5 Kirby FF covers. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Great point, Jimbo!!!! That presents so beautifully...
  6. I can remember jumping on the #23 Central Ave bus (west Orange, Orange, east Orange and Newark) with the O'Brien Brothers circa 1960, to head to downtown Newark, NJ to find two "Used Book Stores" that they'd read heard about. They were both down on market street about two blocks apart. Store #1 sold their comics 7 for a Quarter and had rows of books in low/mid grade (None of which we cared about - it was all about filling holes in your collections). Marvel had not "arrived" yet and we were after mostly DC's and some Atlas books. I bought quite a few on numerous solo outings over the years, along with Sci Fi papebacks. Store #2 had stacks of newer books and in 1962 I finally tracked down a copy of FF #4 (I'd never got one from Sid's and only my cousin had a copy). He sold his comics for full cover price. His stock was prety large and he also specialized in "Men's Magazines" which we were not allowed to handle. Didn't actually buy in a real comic store until the early 80's in Hackettstown, NJ.
  7. This thread is a hoot for me. Started to read it from the very beginning, but then ran into a post from Old Guy and immediately realized that it all started over 4 years ago. The idea is a very interesting one and for display and Shows (less need to open the package to inspect the book) would seem to have merit. I guess that my main concerns would be; weight and how effectively the deacidification process would be with only micro chamber paper.
  8. Certainly looks like the same book.... So, let's supose someone decides to take a flyer and wins a $50,000+ book for $25,000. And then let's presume that there is no book in the package sent to the buyer. Doesn't Paypal Buyer Protection cover the buyer for the full purchase price and original S&H?? I would think that this isn't a rare occurence and Paypal has been stuck numerous times. What am I missing here?
  9. And as an aside; the JIM 83 has a notation on the label; "Small piece out of margin on last page". After reading the latest "Notes for Cash" thread, i was under the impression that they didn't include ANY notes on the label anymore... Not sure why this defect would be an exception, and Popped staple, Rusted Staple, Missing centerfold, etc., would not be noted. Are we SURE that's the case???
  10. Got three recently submitted books back a couple of weeks ago. Avengers #1, Off White, 6.0 Journey into Mystery #83, Off White/White, 7.0 X-Men #1, Off White/White, 9.0 All three are pretty much perfectly centered. The Avengers was purchased at the second NYCComic from TV Comics. The latter two were purchased by Me, off-the-shelf, and are among the last of The Sid's Luncheonette Marvel Keys that I still own. (this JIM was purchased the very same day as my AF #15). Scans to follow when I figure out how to get my laptop and scanner in Sync...
  11. I had just about every Early Marvel Key at one time in my OO collection, but if I were to start again today, I think your model is a perfect balance between great looking, yet somewhat affordable books. I had a ton of 8.0 SA books come back from CGC and although in my naivete I was disappointed in the grades, I still felt that they presented beautifully. And when you consider the cost of purchasing a VF vs a NM or NM-, it all makes perfect sense to an old collector... (thumbs u
  12. Amazing, 51 years later I would dare say plenty of collectors are targeting Hulk, Action, and Superman books from the early 60's, but they were runner ups in the "worst" comic division voting back then. Thanks for sharing the interior pages. That was an interesting read. I had the same thought about the "Worst" category. I guess realistically, the Hulk only lasting 6 issues showed the lack of enthusiasm, and The entire Superman and Batman lineups were pretty lame...
  13. fantastic! amazing! incredible!!!! WOW!!!! (worship) LOVELY... (thumbs u
  14. Roy Thomas ends...(Are any of the 20 members of the academy ever on these boards??)
  15. And now it gets interesting as Roy Thomas discusses the Winners and Losers;
  16. The "ALLEY AWARDS" for 1961 (DC's domination would be short-lived);
