Checked with our consignment director this morning, and she said your book had been removed from the queue going to CGC for relabeling yesterday, and will be recorded as-is. One of our employees was reviewing a group of slabs that included your book plus multiple other copies of the same issue, and that person saw that your book was labeled differently than the others, so thought that meant it had been mislabeled by CGC. But it appears CGC's handling of this issue has evolved over time, and nothing about your book is incorrect and needs relabeling.

If I'm understanding correctly from previous discussion here on the boards and in this rarecomics post, what we currently have listed as variant 1AU (described as having originally been polybagged, polybag removed, with Spidey-head instead of barcode), can actually be differentiated into two further variants--one that originally came in a polybag, and one that looks very similar but never was in a polybag to begin with. My understanding is that the way to differentiate these two versions is that one has more purplish colored webbing and one has more grey webbing, and also something about the color difference in a small area just to the side of Spidey's right knee. We're reviewing this to see if we want to update our catalog entries.

I appreciate the explanation and new knowledge. When these poly-bagged Spiderman came out I was only allowed 3 copies by my local comic book store.

I sent two different poly bagged comics into CGC for a total of 5 copies. I didn't remove the bags before sending them in (that was stupid). The Spiderman 1 copies did not come back with the bags. The Morbius #1 copies did.

    Thanks again for your help.

  2. well here we go. I went to my consignments this morning hoping for an update. I saw a notation for another one of my CGC cases being returned due to damage. There was no communication from My Comic Shop so I emailed asking what happened. The book is being sent back due to a CGC error.

Hi David, happy to clarify.  The Spider-Man 1AU had an error on the label; it needed to be sent back for correction before sale, and CGC does those at no charge.

I don't think there is an error. Can anyone confirm this is the correct wording for this book?

As of today, I have about a dozen books processing, but these are books I bought from them and then consigned back so they were in house the whole time. I have a batch of raws on the way, I'll track their progress a little better.

I'm surprised people are upset about not getting their books listed quicker. Have they looked at the alternatives?

My sales have been incredible, averaging around two grand a week since the beginning of the year, with most selling well above what I was hoping for.

That's great. The whole reason I'm giving it a try.

  4. I bust graded copies out if I feel the grade is wrong. About 90% of the books I own I've read too. For me I wouldn't open a graded book just to read it. I have my raw books graded because I feel it protects them the best and it's easier to sell if I need money. I've never submitted an encapsulated book to CGC.

I do get the biggest kick out of re-submitting books that were once graded by CGC or another company. For me out of the half dozen I have re-submitted (raw) they never have come back the same grade.

  5. It's graded with another company. I didn't want to stir any pot I am not supposed to. I love CGC and would always use their service over any other. I can supply anyone with the certification verification number through PM if interested.

As a chef in So California in the fine dining sector I've met hundreds of celebrities, sports figures and movie stars. To me this item stands out with a low attendance event to start, a well attended (maybe the most in history) Olympic games and the weird mix of important signatures. I was lucky enough to go to multiple gold medal events.

I've collected and sold a very wide range of items (mainly comic books) over the last 38 years but I was hoping to get a little guidance here thats all. I think it's a shame to value someone's signature more when they have passed

Yah this has the feel of an item from Pawnstars that the seller wants $300, Rick buys it for $45, puts it up in the store for $200, and ultimately sells for $125 of trade credit.

    No. I don't think so.

Try to find another one with HOF football player HOF basketball player and 7 time Mr Olympia attending the same event and all three signing an event ticket that puts them all in the same place in time.

I have it graded now. It has population of 1. Mr. Schwarzenegger has a much bigger resume post 8/1984 too so I just need the right fan.

Are there any recommendations for how to ship things? USPS, FedEx, etc.? I'm not accustomed to shipping multiple books like this, and want to make sure it goes smoothly.

I was able to use the same box CGC shipped to me for my 11 graded book shipment to MY Comic Shop. The package weighed just over 13# and shipped from Southern California to Arlington using UPS ground (insured for $500) for $20. Thanks to the boards I use Pirateship.com for the discounted rate printed at home.

  8. I have a couple of questions for MY COMIC SHOP. What about sales taxes as a consignor in the USA? I'm very interested in pulling all my eBay comic listings and putting them somewhere else due to the $10,000 sales threshold.

As an example, I have a MCP 72 CGC 9.8. If were to send it in to you, it seems on this thread you would consider it a buyer's book and should probably be listed as a buy it now. How much lower than your current listings do I need to list it to sell it in a timely manner? It seems weird to me to undercut all the asking prices by $5.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

  9. I've made a lot of purchases here and they have almost all been extremely positive. Grading has been all over the place but not nearly as bad as I have experienced on eBay and other sites. For me reading that a comic is VF on a listing is just one little piece of information. Pictures are better for showing condition. Problem is, most of the time, there is only one picture in the sales section. PGM section always shows multiple angles and views even though the poster is not trying to sell the book.  I often return to sellers I've purchased from in the past and stay away from sellers here that don't grade as well as I had hoped. I don't hesitate to buy from popular postings here too. There's a reason why they are selling a lot of their books.

I've posted WTB listings too and been successful. Filled in a lot of holes as I am a completist collector. In the listing I say "paying Overstreet" for raw books which I know many feel is outdated. Only had one problem on a WTB posting. It had to do with me not liking the book for the same grade the seller did. And, I did not want to pay his price. That being said I have replied to multiple WTB threads and been successful only once. I think a stricter outline of what's required in a WTB would be great.
