  1. Perhaps I'm just getting old, but I now lack the patience I had in the past for dealing with ComicLink's Website, IIRC this was first Original Art I won from them, all the way back in 2006. Still have it! Although I no longer have the patience dealing with their website, it is somewhat comforting that the site has not changed since at least 2006
  2. One of my favorite interior pages from my teens was the last page to the last issue of World's Finest. The melancholy Superman visual perfectly mirroring the sadness of the powerful dialog was masterfully rendered by Delco/Alcalca. Rest In Peace Jose
  3. Glad to see he made 7 figures by jumping in very very early into the NFT bubble! As for me I prefer physical Original Comic art. My first WW Comic as little child was drawn by Delbo/Giordano, I was blessed to have acquired the Cover a long while back.
  4. No as well. 100% against this idea. Its something that will reward incomplete collections over some complete sets simply because of 1 aspect of grading in which opinions are widely divided. @jstam There are enough unfair inequities with the CGC registry please don't create another!
  5. Thanks. They ran approx $72 each. In June 2005, I picked up a lot of 6 Road Runner Covers for $431 (including Buyer's Premium). I still have 4 of the 6. Traded 2, 12-14 years ago. These have low interest in the Original Comic Aart community. I may very well be wrong, but 1970s and 1980s Looney Tune Character covers even today I feel would go for around $500 Maximum if at auction.
  6. I also have #92. Way back when these were on Heritage I purposely went after them due to the scarcity of the Comics themselves.
  7. Still not as rare as my 91 , although I do wonder if Comic is CGC 9.2 or higher which would command more at auction. I've a suspicion it might not be the art???
  8. Won this at Heritage pretty near 20 years ago. 1st page of the Classic story in which Dr Solar first dons his costume. Also the first page in Which his hair is white. Love the lettering on "The New Man of The Atom"
  9. Wow, just Wow. For those of us who were in OA community 20-25 years ago #161 and Super Villain Team-Up #14 are very well known as Jon's Holy Grails.
  10. Bugs #201 - another not yet in my CAF... w/Western Approval still attached. So if you see staple holes on your Gold Key/Whitman covers thats what would have been there at one point.
  11. A Whitman Pre-Pack distributed only Beep, Beep The Road-Runner #92. A case of the comic perhaps being more "valuable" than the cover art? Not yet in my CAF gallery, I've only had it 20 years... Like many collectors in the 2003-2006 time-frame I purchased a bunch of Gold Key/Whitman cover lots at Heritage
  12. IMHO so does this one but for 1972/1973, by Norman Maurer
  13. Comic obtained from a member here who reached out to me. The member wishes to remain anonymous but if he's reading this, I offer my eternal gratitude! The cover is my holiest collectible grail and I feel blessed to have found it a dozen years back.
  14. and none of them will be the first Black Costume nor will they even be in the 1st 20 appearances of the black costume.
  15. Does not seem to have softened on any pieces I go after Sure wish it would. Take the sublimation of Sal B Hulk pages in the past 2 years. Plausible reason for my not seeing any softening is stuff within my now very limited focus is mostly locked away in collections including my own? The OA market is wide but my interests are very narrow...
  16. Sal was the Hulk artist for 2-3 generation of readers. Leaving when Byrne took over in 1985. There are only 2 Hulk (1 annual) covers, both from the 1980's. This means Sal Hulk collectors fight for the splashes and the decent panels with more vigor than some might expect. This is what I've witnessed in my own quarter century of Sal Hulk art collecting. anyone recall the "Hulk Art Collective" ?
  17. I've my Sal Hulk Splash Grail, Signed by Stan Lee. and yeah I thought it was a bit high at $900 in 2003 Thanks Eelco!
  18. I recall when they were just barely over 100 at Heritage. I paid 110 + vig for this one back in 2002 IMHO it's a superior page to the 3 sold today
  19. 100% correct. I follow the Spidey Super Story stuff as I've quite a bit. Based on the prices they have somewhat stabilized for the moment. This has occurred many times in the past right before they jump to the next level. Do miss the good ol' days when I was able to pick up a Spidey Splash with Thanos for $50
  20. I'm in Total agreement especially with the paragraph in bold. I can get still get 5%+ compounded and guaranteed for 5 years with 20k and I'm not so sure if paying current FMV on many art pieces will yield as well. most of the last 12 years i woudl never had even considered going that route now it's most appealing. For around 18 years now I've followed an amalgam of advice I received from Will G and Jon M; If it's piece that has special meaning for you, spend what you think it will cost in 5 years so it doesn't get away. The combined advice has mostly served me well, however as of this point in time paying where i think it will be in 5 years means not overpaying/paying less and if it gets away then it gets away. I've been blessed to acquire my Grail of Grail's so it's an easier statement to make than it might have been many years back.
  21. Not sure if Art counts, but a dozen years ago I found my holiest collectible grail in the back of small comic shop 100 or so miles outside of my home range. To this day I still can't believe it occurred and consider myself truly blessed to have found it even if I did pay above market price at the time to pry it free. My first purchased childhood comic book! Now known as "Demon in Bottle" part 1
  22. My answer to the question asked in the topic title is No,Yes,Yes,Yes,Yes Allow me to explain ; I do not have the first piece I ever owned. I acquired and then sold it 5 years prior to my becoming an Original Comic Art collector. I still have the first page of Original Comic Art every gifted to me - Sal Buscema's back cover to Spider Super Stories #37. It was the later 90's and so still pretty cheap, like $40 or less I don't expect any more XMAS gifts of this type in modern times. The back cover was gifted to me prior to my becoming an Original Comic Art collector. I still have the first page I purchased that made me an Original Comic Art collector. Iron Man 120 for $49 on eBay I still have my first Splash page. JLA 207 I still have my first cover. Human Fly #19 by Bob Layton
  23. Received fast considering international. Comic was nice and professionally packed! Thanks!
