  1. Have had same discussion with Mankuta, minus the tulip mania aspect, several times, going back almost 20 years. We both agreed an OA correction would occur, but even in the financial crisis it did not. We last spoke about it 2 years ago and still agree one would eventually occur. For as long as several large players control an estimated 30-40% of extant pre Y2K Marvel/DC art it could be a while. But as with us all, they won't be around forever. Depending on succession plans for their holdings a chance of several large art dumps could take place. Recently I have seen some softening with "run-of-the-mill" published art to 2020 prices. As others have pointed out in this forum it could be symptom of so much art hitting the auction blocks that the large players cannot shield bid everything? I have been lucky to get 2nd chances on few pieces this year at 2019/2020 prices. I honestly hope to see pages retreat to 2014 prices but feel its pie in sky type odds in my lifetime.
  2. Not this past auction, but I usually have same problem myself, I prefer to think chalk it up to "good taste" It did happen once before.
  3. Not sure to what to make of the price drop, but elated at picking up a grail. Invaders 38 one of my 1st 10 Childhood Comics. Sadly a few years back I missed p1 at Comiclink , Got 2nd chance today $600 less 5 years later = Sept 3, 2019 / Pre-Pandemic $2,711 https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FPREVIEW.ASP%3Fcode%3D2019aug%26itemtype%3D1%23Item_1322438&id=1322438 Sept 14, 2024 / Post-Pandemic $1,800 + BP $360 = $2160 https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/splash-pages/alan-kupperberg-and-chic-stone-invaders-38-splash-page-1-original-art-marvel-1979-/a/7379-94255.s
  4. Definitely. If the 130 Cover had been on the market especially from 2000-2020 I would have noticed and at one time gone after it. Depending on time-frame so too would have Darren, Bill, Tom and others. My 120 Cover too was purchased directly from Layton, then was hidden away in a non-publicly accessible back room of a remote (for me) Comic Shop from 1979-2012. The odds of me stumbling upon it by pure accident must be winning the power-ball level odds. Curious to see what the final price on the 130 Cover will be, as well as hopefully knowing in the near future who won it.
  5. The IM Cover is a great piece. I so wish it had come up for sale before pandemic when the prices were such I'd would have had a solid chance at it Hmmm - - what will it hammer at? I'm thinking 60 Large and will not be surprised if it tests the 70 mark . There are several Bronze IM collectors with solid coin out there and this is exactly the type of Cover that should have them salivating - - I know I am! Based on the unsolicited offers I've received for some of my IM pieces I think my guesses are in the neighborhood, maybe even a bit low? This will be a genuinely fun auction to watch P.S. Yeps, some of the stats are definitely not real.
  6. 9 years ago during a very bleak professional and personal time in my life, over the course of 6 months I read Digital scanned copies of the entire "Sugar & Spike" series. Timeless, Funny, and Uplifting material that hearkens to simpler times even if in reality those times never actually existed. While reading the series I took notes on which pages I'd like to have in case the situation ever present itself. It finally did recently when 1 of them popped up at Hakes. With art in hand you can really see ALL of Mayer's Pencils, for me at least this is a true presentation piece. For those familiar with my CAF Gallery, there is a tie-in; Mayer co-created the Justice Society of America Has nearly everything I could ever want in a Sugar (Plum) & Spike page expect for the parents only hearing "GLX" or "SPTZL" or "GLAAH" P.S. early 1958 when the page was published was a long time before I was born.
  7. alxjhnsn, That is a Beautiful book stand!
  8. Based on the language used it appears 100% genuine apology. I'm from NY and have collected 1970s Comic Art since 1999 so it's not easy to pull wool over these eye glasses
  9. Hello, Seems a Olive branch or twig of sorts was passed. It included an apology, something you almost never see on web message boards. Regardless of who may or may not have started the offering of an apology deserves kudos. Don't think I ever saw one in the Comic Art Forum, where I will be sticking to from now on!
  10. At NJ Art Con yesterday, I listened to two collectors talking Graded Comics inner well issues. Sure enough I find this topic here in Comics General without doing any searching. I'm a Comic Art Collector first and foremost but do have some CGC Hi Grade Comic Books albeit mostly mostly low value. I checked this evening and found I have Twelve Comic Books that I believe are graded by CGC in 2024. The lowest cert number begins with 43964. Is there link to an app that can provide dates? I looked at all 12 Books, most were 9.8 the rest were 9.6, and 10 of them appear to have the issues as shown in pics on the first few pages in this topic. 6 of them are from the same lot number having consecutive serial numbers. I also looked at some of my 9.8 and 9.6 books I purchased during the pandemic, they did not have the convex (concave?) curving or rippling. Not worth my time to pursue further. BTW In my 12 years on this forum I have never pointed this out, but after seeing the vast amount of childish acrimony between several forum members who have posted in this topic, I will stick to the Original Art Forum where the acrimony is generally not over very mild stuff. Hope is it OK for me to be honest here. Carry on folks now that my long time framer, who I trusted implicitly, retired and closed up shop, I'm going to focus finding a new one to have my recent art auction wins framed. P.S. I am so glad that with Original Comic Book Art condition is pretty much meaningless
  11. I miss Joe! As I've mentioned at CAF there were a bunch of times we had Dinner and talked Carpentry, Network News Anchors, and other non-comic subjects. BA literally "flipping her wig"
  12. and a page from #37 making it's public debut. Hidden in my collection the last 25 years:
  13. Sal Buscema Back Cover Art: A gift from my oldest/longest friend in life from way back in the days it cost under $40
  14. That's pretty much Dillon JLA prices on the Subby's if not a bit less
  15. March 2024 was in Hanover NJ. Had it been there again I for one would not be attending. Once was more than enough. For those of us in NY which covers majority of attendees, the extra 20-50 minutes each way depending on traffic is simply too much. Glad to see it's back in Hasbrouck Heights which is now the absolute furthest extent to which I'm willing to travel on Sunday's. Now it if were a Saturday when traffic is usually significantly less thus not having to watch the every minute on the clock, that would be ideal! + you ,and yep
  16. You make an excellent point! In my early days as a Orig Art Collector, I commissioned a recreation of my Holy Grail cover, but when I acquired it 12 years later, the recreation lost meaning to me. However had I never obtained my Holy Grail the recreation would still be sitting on my wall.
  17. I've now been in the hobby 1/4 Century - man it goes fast.... Yep, The 2008 film did cause the art to sublimate, however before then from 1999-2007, 60s and 70s Iron Man art had solid demand. On the average 1970's published IM art prices prior to the movie were higher than Cap or Thor and similar to the Avengers. I won and lost many a wallet bruising scuffle for Romita Jr/Layton Iron Man art for several years prior to the film.
  18. and since we're talking Spidey Spider-Woman I have one more page w/ double the Spider-Woman from #32. Those were great days for me back in 1999-2004, when you could pick up a page like this for no more than the price the price of a very reasonable dinner. Mortimer being a great IMHO Supergirl Artist was a natural for SW. Am I the only one who thinks that...? Doc Ock getting way too grabby with Jessica Drew and this was a Comic for small children
  19. Love #47 ! A favortite from my childhood. Was never able to find one in high grade and then i got into Comic Art so I stopped looking. Got this 47 page for $30 - of course that was in the Spring of 2000 I totally get the Penguin references but in the last panel Stilty looks very much like the Mad Hatter to me Michael, if you're seeing this, it's still not for sale (yet?)
  20. Jennifer Of The Jungle Rules! ========================
  21. My personal Don Perlin Grail page. From my favorite Defenders issue.
