    I did this.
I used a few different approaches, but one of the ones that worked best was sending in smaller books to auction and rolling the proceeds into a small number of grails. You have to be able to live with leaving money on the table since not all small books go for full value, plus there are grading and auction house fees. At the end of the day I was happy though since I did not have to pay anything out of pocket for big books that I always wanted, and it freed up some much-needed space.

    100% what Terry said.
I pick them up where I can to have a reader copy of a slabbed book. I have noticed some variant covers for facsimile books recently that are pretty awesome. That’s a new concept that, again, won’t take away from the original - but is an interesting way to add some cool covers into the mix. Like what Image are doing at the moment with Prophet #1.

I’ve done a similar thing and been happy to do things like turn a short box of nothing books into one big key. No regrets.
There were times I sold keys outside of my core focus and it was the right decision at the time, and I’d do it again today, but I do miss some of those books and couldn’t afford to add them back to my collection again now.
As a collector, storage space is often an overlooked premium. Downsizing to a smaller, more meaningful collection can be a great thing. At least, it was for me. I’d say go explore the idea with serious consideration and intent… Perhaps ease into it by offloading some nothing books and some drek - just don’t rush into flipping big books, even if they are not your core focus.

Honestly, the first I’ve seen of it. Cool concept, not sure if it will take outside of a small circle of uberfans. BUT, thank you for sharing with the post… I just spent a good 20m drooling over at Crain’s website. Love his work!

No, they don’t hurt the value of the actual book itself.
    BUT
People do try and pass off facsimiles as the original book. So beware of that.

The first answer that come to mind to all these questions is- sell them.  However, as I look back at the last 20+ years of buying and selling, I have to acknowledge that I would have been better off if I never sold anything at all.

Yeah definitely not how I will lay it out but I like the general idea of being able to create the art pattern to find something I do like.

Sounds like it’s going to be amazing! But the OA layout plan is making me twitch.

Here is the start of my plan for the 15ft x 9ft wall.
The left and right cabinets are single drawers that will hold 4 CGC graded books per drawer, 24 drawers per cabinet.  I have one more wall that will have two more of the cabinets so a total of 96 drawers holding 384 books single layer.
The center 3 cabinets will have UV glass with LED lighting and hold various collectibles.
The space above will hold artwork.  This isn't the actual artwork I will hang but I did it to get an idea of what I could fit.

I’d also recommend checking out mycomicshop.com - keep a want list there and they’ll email you when they are in stock. Usually very reasonable pricing and there are excellent shipping options. I had a slab shipped to me recently, it arrived in 14 calendar days (from the US to Australia) in perfect condition and the shipping cost US$18. Truly mind-blowing.

Just pulled these two out and transferred them to clean new bags.
They seem to be fine.  I don't detect cat pee smell.

It’s not really about the price, but about what’s in the bin.  If I start into a $20 bin, I don’t want to see a bunch of $10 books
