The LA Show Comic Art Show Is Back! Who's going?
aokartman replied to glenbru's topic in Comic Events
Sure, but, for the price of admission, the attendee gets what seems to be a gallery type experience with no obligation to buy. Not bad! I would be all over it if it was near me. David -
Likely a later addition by a fan or dealer, as has been mentioned. The original art might have have been enlarged, reduced, cropped, or extended, statted, and then shot for production. Lots of possibilities! The up side is this seems to be the "original" art. David

My oldest boy worked at a toy and card store in early 2000s, and got sucked into spending some of his paycheck on cards. I should check with him if it ever paid off. Doubtful. I bought a shoebox of 1950s cards in the early 1970s, and most are not worth the time and cost of trying to grade, or resell raw. Comic books are a little better, for me. Sluggish, but reliable. But, if you were just buying on a whim, it is a good place to be. Some people had $350 to burn then just like others have $35,000 now.

Nice catch!

I would agree with Bird on the effect of the passage of time being a factor in moving on from a fascination. There is so much out there! Price inflation also plays a huge role for my collection, as I am less willing to trade any old "keepers" for new acquisitions since they are my sentimental favorites now. Fixed income kind of has me at a disadvantage in the heated current market. I did always want an Alex Raymond (anything!), but now I can't justify it. I am just grateful for what I was able to grab during the run-up to today's scene. Hannigan liked to fool with the title. Hannigan and Giordano. David LINK to the CAF Gallery Shot

MOVED EBAY SLEEPWALKER 28 ART NICHOLS COVER ART
aokartman replied to aokartman's topic in Original Comic Art Marketplace
MOVED to EBAY, thanks for looking! LINK TO THE AUCTION Starts at $3000 / offer. Best, David S. Albright -
Thanks Lee, I really appreciate your efforts! I agree with vodou that $350 was a strong ask for the She-Hulk cover in 1992. I picked up a slew of various covers in 1995 for $10-20 apiece. Granted, I may have been right place, right time, but still... This cover will blow away the $350 number, and continue the upward trends, in my opinion. David

Andy Lee Convention drawing with opaque watercolor on 11 X 17 paper in my collection, I think it is a nice version of Peppermint Patty! Click to make bigger. David

They don't need cash. It's not the point. FMV, sure, need that, but trade fits in with specific nostalgia points for collectors and trade has leverage and, honestly, entertainment value.

The wife Julie Y Baker Albright was just on Vermont TV! Nice brief public interest short about her art and herself, well done by WCAX and Elissa Borden. David https://www.wcax.com/2020/10/05/mivt-julie-y-baker-albright/

Yes, my trading is mostly just for fun, though I treat my buyers with respect. I suspect many of my buyers are of a like mind. Let's face it, an extra $10,000 only gets you a few more weeks in the fancy hospice home. David

In the October European Auction! Nice Thor cover with Marie Severin stamp and Joe Sinnott signature. I have been re-reading my Thor comic books lately, this seems like a nice piece. David -
Funny! Good for you. We paid cash for a desireable 2008 Honda Fit, and it got dinged up here and there, but no Carfax. Then... My neighbor's wife backed into it in their driveway while we were watching football last fall. I got an estimate (totaled) and suggested this was why they invented insurance. I then bought it back, so I got the payout, plus the eventual bargain resale to a teen (great first car for her). Well worth it, with all parties involved. David

What exactly did this auction winner just buy?
aokartman replied to glendgold's topic in Original Comic Art
I have this RAY four piece acetate production proof with a full size (folded) black and white xerox of the ink art stapled to it and signed by the colorist Rob Schwager. There is no hand work on it, just an artifact of the process. I have saved some of my wife's print production artifacts, and they are cool, but only as interesting as your imagination. The other image is Fred "RAY" i was not able to delete it, so take a look (not mine). Best, David -

Last bump before I look for other options on this nice original Marvel comic cover art by Nichols from 1993. Best, David S. Albright -

Why wouldn't you just take or swipe a scan of the actual cover and make an 11 X 17 copy for yourself? Or swipe a scan of some original art and do the same thing? A lot cheaper. With some actual handwork, like some color guides display, color guides have interest to me, but acetates (fake or real) are down on the list without provenance. Best, David S. Albright -
