  1. fairwaycomicsncollectibles I truly, truly hope this person is a member. Especially if he forgets there is copious message / photo / video evidence of below This gentleman purchased a FVF Iron Man #1 from us. After buying, he sent a total of 7 messages, asking questions that most people would ask prior to purchase. But, people are weird sometimes. Those being answered, we ship it to him. Two hours after receiving said item, he opens a return for an item not as described. The points on which he is claiming discrepancy, are, line for line, the actual flaws on this book listed in the listing itself. But again, no huge deal. eBay allows regret returns, as long as you call them not as described. It is , sadly, what it is. When we receive the item, in the same top loader in which we sent it, it now has a smallish, but very noticeable, chunk missing from the right edge of the front cover, in what looks like a tape snag. When reviewing the photos he sent to justify his return, they are all cropped immediately below this area. When confronted, he immediately begins the histrionics, protesting with MANY CAPITAL LETTERS that he is a professional, that this is impossible, that the photo I sent him of the damage is CLEARLY another book, that now he can see that the damage is CLEARLY on the same book, that it somehow happened during transit, inside a top loader, that he had NO IDEA what I meant about the cropping, that he sells items worth 10 times this amount so that is proof of something or other. At which point I mentioned to him that there was video from our helpful mailperson, of the box being opened, with the damage inside the top loader. Literally, 2 minutes later, he escalates his return to a claim, a full 45 minutes after the item was delivered, and has now kept quiet to this point. While this is not nearly as egregious as him stealing the book and sending me a photo copied Archie book, it is plainly childish behavior, and an example of someone being unable to take responsibility for what was, more than likely, an unfortunate accident. And yes, we have confirmed the refund, and will be eating the loss on resale. As much as he liked to defend this action by proclaiming himself a PROFESSIONAL, we actually are.
  2. chadney77 Submits offer of $250.00 on a comic. Offer is automatically accepted through settings. 1 minute later sends cancellation request. Becoming more and more frequent these days.
  3. Although the spate of non paying bidders is almost overwhelming these days, this situation warranted noting. nic8612 Purchases a book in FEBRUARY. Does not pay. Does not respond to inquiries. After a week, he sends a cancellation request which is approved. Book is relisted and sells. Fast forward 2 months, when he leaves a negative feedback stating he never received his book. Not only is the eBay system not supposed to allow that chain of events, but it takes about a half hour of arguing to get it removed. Removed it is, but the inanity of the whole situation, plus the fact that I still have never had communication with this person.....save yourself the headache.
  4. You mean you felt the need to add something just because. 4 weeks after the fact. Now the book has been issued, has been reissued, was available 4 weeks ago, and presumably, is still available today. But sure, go ahead.
  5. Hey Chip is back. This is going to get interesting.
  6. The smaller standard size Diamond Box works perfectly. You would want the thin barrier piece in the bottom, drop them in, and peanuts on top. If you do not have them handy, most LCS just toss them and I am sure most would be happy to pass them along.
  7. Even if it was possible to break even by selling the 1:1000 variant, those 1,000 books still have to be sold to make a profit. If it is possible to sell the 1:1000 variant to break even, then 1 of the remaining 1000 books needs to be sold to make a profit.
  8. There is no correlation between the numbers and rarity. They don't have anything to do with each other. That people use them because they "sound" impressive doesn't make it so. There are 1:100 books that are ultra common, and there are 1:10s that are pretty rare. You're right if you're comparing books that aren't the same (ie. a 1:25 Spiderman vs 1:25 Avengers...or whatever). However, if the books are the "same" there is a correlation to rarity. Take for example Old Man Logan #66 Turner Variant. There are two of them...the color version (1:50) and the sketch version (1:100). The sketch version is more rare no matter how you do the math. You buy 100 comics you'll get two color version and one sketch version...and so on... ***Rare is subject to interpretation (in this case I'm just saying there are less sketch versions) I think the point RMA is trying to make (now or any of the dozen other times) is that one of those is only rarer than the other if you are certain of how many were created in the first place. If you print 50 of each, and then give all of one to retailers, and only half of the other, that does not make them more rare, it just makes one of them more immediately available. It is a fair point that printing to order on these makes no sense. If you give exactly 854 of a 1:100 variant to stores, printing 854 is ridiculous, for many reasons. Damages, over run, contracted minimum print jobs, whatever. So the argument is that without knowing how much of something actually exists in the first place, it is difficult to place a premium on its perceived rarity. Which is true, without a doubt.
  9. Don't think you could press that and improve it much. Bingo, those books aren't pressable, stock is the cardboard type, and you can't get enough pressure on the corners to get anything out. Good price though FWIW, got a few in, they pressed out really well. Gonna grade them now. Really? I got two and one didn't even have the corner ding. Yep, graded 9.8 too! For those that aren't aware...stiffer cardboard covers CAN be pressed (Enormous, DKIII, etc)...they just have to be pressed carefully, and they don't respond as well. You can EASILY destroy a cardboard cover beyond redemption. Want to give my two a shot? Sorry, but I'm too busy to take on any extra work right now. What tier did you use for grading? You were going to send them in on the 22nd and you have a pic on the 4th. 7 business days to ship, grade and have them shipped back? Especially as the verification tool on the main site shows the book was graded on the 22nd. Lightning!
  10. I stand corrected. And I can also see how expecting someone to bounce back 359 pages is much more realistic than someone being excited about a book they own, and posting it in a forum that is, in title, exactly what they have. But crisis averted. Whew.
  11. very cool, but not appropriate for this thread this thread is when you have the single highest graded CGC SS copy of the book (sometimes that means you have the only copy) Pretty sure it says one of a kind right there in the title. And "only" right there in his posting. Of course, I could be wrong.
  12. Yep. The end is close near. fixed that for ya! What’s the difference between "close" and "near"? I believed they had more or less the same meaning. when talking about distance, they are the same thing. outside of that, they go all over the place. someone just likes making post counts go up. Actually no, with apologies to Valliant who is truly asking for clarity, as he's Italian and it's a good question regarding the use of one word over the other. It actually relates to cartoons of days past, where the typical portrayal of the doomsayer was the old guy with the long beard walking around with a sign on a post predicting the apocalypse, with the sign saying, "The End is Nigh! (or Near!)" I'm really surprised that deathtohemingway couldn't grasp it. . . . Thanks, but otherwise they would have the same meaning? I ask because in italian they both translate as "vicino", but I realize that "close" might mean "closer" than "near"? It’s interesting when I find more english words addressing similar meanings, as italian is a very precise language with words, while english is a lot elastic (for example, "glass" which means a lot of things, and in italian we have single words for each one of them). In general, one uses "near" when referring to time, and "close" when referring to position. I should have guessed that. Like "house" and "home", while we have the same word for both. That is very interesting, as in these, meaning-wise italian is less precise than english. One of the problems with words like "near" when you are attempting to learn a second language is that it can be used for many different types of speech. "Near" can be a verb meaning "To advance" or "To get closer to" (I know, defining the word near, with the word close) which would be closest to "avvicinare" in Italian. "Near" or "Nearby" can also be an adverb to emphasize where an item is situated. This would be closest to "accanto" or maybe "dappresso" "Vicina" would be the closest to the English usage of "Near" as an adjective. So yes, complicated. But basically, just remember that when you are dealing with distance, the difference between "Near (or Nearby)" and "Close" is negligible. If you use either, your meaning will be clear.

  14. I have #312 on the way back from CGC. Graded 9.6. Has certificate (loose). I hadn't enough forethought to get the label slabbed as well!
  15. Pretty sure the word CANADIAN in the original post has something to do with the confusion here.
