  1. Well this certainly qualifies as a favorite ... now that it's mine!
  2. Realizing it's been a while since I posted ... been a bit distracted. Here are my favorite two new additions. The smile on this little gem (aside from the beautiful women he is staring at) is because he is the future owner of my entire collection which now includes this other little gem. Shout out to LBJeffries who was kind enough to sell me his entire high grade Juggie collection, including this magnificent Church copy.
  3. I'm with ya. That was my MO reference (Make Offer). Point is the same, the buyers will set the price now. Looking forward to seeing the outcome.
  4. Well dude, I hope it all goes your way. You've put the time in and certainly have the energy. Plus it will finally put an end to the long debates we all had over its value when you put in on eBay for 200k with a BIN and MO. Good luck!
  5. You should've sold me that pep 22, then you would've never had to see it sell again. I do think that key issues with first appearances aside from just Archie are fairly well documented. Pep #22, Pep #26, Wilbur #5, Archie's Pals and Gals #23, Madhouse #22, and so on ... as are covers like Pep #36, Jackpot #4, and stories like the first love triangle, etc. Is there room for more, of course. I think you should float the idea of recognizing the first appearance of the whole gang. MagicM's got the procedure down by now! We should also try to figure out which issue contains the first appearance of Jughead with a burger and Reggie getting his kicked by Moose. As for whether all of these firsts are priced as they should be, these days it's such a moving target, who knows.
  6. Been meaning to chime in ... Nice work on getting things corrected with CGC and Overstreet on the 23. Might just send mine in for a slab now! I must say I'm excited for next month's auction to begin. Can't wait to have some current metrics for what a universal and a restored Pep 22 go for (in their respective conditions), Pep 23 as well. They haven't been as prevalent on the auction block as Archie 1's as of late, and it'll be good to cut through all the speculation and see where the market sets the price.
  7. I know, I was just kidding. I just thought it was an interesting lot to slab ... regardless, very nice books. Congrats on the purchase!
  8. Very nice Steve! Love seeing all those 9 +'s. FYI, if you're gonna slab your entire collection you're gonna need a bigger room.
  9. So no one wants to talk about those auctions on CC? $70,000 for the A1 6.0! $18,200 for the restored 7.5! CC is killing it right now. Plus their upcoming auction has two Pep 22s (MagicM's and I'm pretty sure the other is Filter's copy that Matt Nelson just finished -- the one he said he'd give me first crack at ) another restored Archie 1 7.0, an A1 cover only for anyone sitting on the insides, and a low grade A2 to boot. Love it! Come on people, tell me whatcha think.
  10. Had to grab this ... the perfect complement to my insanely high-grade Juggie collection. My 5 was in dire need of an upgrade and this copy was calling my name!
  11. Just shy of $7k for that brittle .5 Archie 1 on Clink last night. Not too shabby. Bodes well for the Archie 1 6.0 in the upcoming CC auction. On a side note, is anyone else as little moved as I am with the "John Wise" auction story? Dude bought old books and had most of them restored. I mean he has some impressive issues for sure, and overall an impressive collection, but this is hardly some major attic find. I think it will be very interesting to see what his A1 with extensive resto (7.5) sells for. It is currently going for about a grand more than the .5 above. There is an 8.0 EP on eBay for $19,500, and it's been there FOREVER! Will be interesting to see if CC can get the guy more than that when everyone has passed on the 8.0.
  12. Great book, great cover! I need a nice 13, mine is beat. But that'll have to wait ... Baby furniture has arrived. Painters are coming Monday. My dining room is overflowing with gifts from the shower, my wife is "nesting", I've been ejected from my home office of 13 years and am making the move this week to new office space (gonna suck putting pants on to go to work)! Case and point, I see my collecting screeching to halt. Like a dying man gasping for his last breath I have been grabbing at books I find appealing. Picked this up the other day on ebay: I'll be throwing my beater under copy up there in the next few days. Also upgraded my Pep 70 to a slightly nicer copy the other day: Onward and upward ... or something like that!
  13. That is a very fine looking copy, literally and figuratively! Congratulations. (thumbs u
  14. Suppose I should clarify: I buy a ton of stuff from SC and agree they are absolutely rocking it when it comes to selling comics. Not only are they trustworthy, they promote their sales outside of eBay which is an awesome way to pump the sale prices. Great images, professional packing, etc, etc ... you guys know just as as well as I do. They certainly would have seen a higher sale price for this book. I was simply saying that this seller didn't necessarily scare me off with his history. An Archie #3 8.0, is an ARCHIE #3 8.0 no matter how you look at it. If I was not so poor, with the anticipation of being even more so, this auction would have had a different end.
  15. I guess I see what you're saying Steve; it's certainly been a while since he bought or sold anything on eBay, but there are a decent number of green flags that counter the red. Of course I preface this with, to each their own, and I respect your position. Positives for me are: - Feedback of 155 with a 100% positive rating (even with an ebay sabbatical that is not uncommon with someone who is not a pro seller or an active collector) - A short but approachable description. Those who just repeat the auction title or those who ramble on in grammatically disastrous novellas (yes Thurston I mean you) give me pause, but someone who provides even the slightest in personal details gets a plus from me. - A slabbed book that can be verified - The inexcusable (haha) amount of time I spend on other auction sites, etc. and the fact that I've never seen this book on the block to poach a picture from - Amex/Paypal protection (I know there are hoops to jump through here, I guess my feeling is just that if you're already spending 4k with a stranger, why not 5 ) The last slabbed 3 I recall seeing sell (3 months ago) was a 6.5 on HA with C/OW pages. It went for a thousand more than this. I'm just sayin' (again) 4k was low.
  16. Not that I could see. It was labeled properly, showed up in all the right places, etc. I agree with you, I expected 6-7k at a minimum. 4k is low. I'm guessing that's not much more than Brock at Columbia got for his 8.0 #10.
  17. This thread needs a bump. I watched this book close on eBay yesterday and I guess I am a bit surprised by the price. I was an underbidder (with a baby less than 8 weeks away, a VERY LOW underbidder) and I thought this would go a bit higher. Thoughts? Talk amongst yourselves.
  18. Decided to grab this the other day from SC. I've had a real low grade copy for 23 years and while I'd prefer universal the resto was limited to a cover cleaning. Plus the pages are OW/W. Oddly enough, I have fond memories of when I first got my copy. I was 16 and I paid $20 for it at a flea market. Just looking at all the page flakes in the mylar I knew it was rough but I had a hole to fill. Popped it in a new mylar when I got home ... the removal and reinsertion was like brain surgery. Might have changed the backboard and mylar once since then for fear of it turning to dust. Brittle would be an upgrade. Maybe I'll throw a scan up later for fun, I haven't pulled the book in a decade.
  19. Had to add this one to the collection, and glad the seller was wiling to negotiate a bit.
  20. Really nice! Do you feel 1st issue MLJ's (Zip 1, Special Comics1, Blue Ribbon 1, etc)are more 'plentiful' than mid and later issues in runs(which seem near impossible to find?) Totally agree. You can pretty much take your pick of mid-high grade Shield Wizard, Zip, Blue Ribbon and Top Notch #1s. But as you said, the issues in the middle of the run rarely surface, and when they do they are usually in rough shape. Hangman are out there, but still not as plentiful as the others. Pep is similar to some degree... It's pretty easy to find Pep 1-21, but for whatever reason you don't see as many copies of 22-49.
