  1. Hello all. Nice JLAs everyone has. Thought I'd pop in after a couple years hiatus. Will check back later. Rick
  2. Tim, you didn't offer a counter-reason for the bidding war...? And don't say JLA collectors are dummies! that's too easy. Rick PS: No, I can't take any credit for the upswings; I'm still holding out for a decent JLA #1.
  3. Uh, since leaving my most recent job last summer, I am anything but "going strong." I really shouldn't be going after a 5-digit book right now; but I know if I don't, I may not get another chance again for a loong time. Plus, having a respectable CGC set without the #1 is really starting to annoy me. I can only assume that other JLAers got out because they didn't see an upside for long term ownership, the CGC gravy train was departing (toot toot). They didn't want to miss out. Tim, you didn't mind playing in the deep end (in fact, you seemed to revel in it); it was when the water got dirty that you dried off for good. Please tell me everyone is catching my metaphorical drift? kudos to you Tim. Rick
  4. 9.0 Uh...thanx for your brevity. OK it's settled then: I should be able to find a perfectly centered, dripping wet, sharp as a knife 9.0 with blinding WHITE pages for $12K. Now I'll just wait til one falls in my lap------- BTW, it'll get a 9.0 because of an unverifiable "Julius Schwartz" name signed on splash page that I'll find some way to live with. Rick
  5. OK, Don't ask how, but it looks like I might be getting $10-12K coming my way shortly. Now I know the GPA #s, but I'd like the insight from the board's JLA collectors re JLA #1: what am I realistically looking at in terms of grade, PQ, and eye-appeal? Note- unobstructive date stamps don't bother me; neither does a thinnly off-center cover, but any kind of diagonal sh*t is a deal breaker. Yes, even on this ish. There's nothing pushing this book right now, is there? Hopes of a movie in my lifetime are plummetting fast. All right boys, impart your wisdom please. Thanx! Rick PS: not even thinking of the B&Bs right now...wanna finish my freakin' set first.
  6. Only when the owners want to sell; big difference between Marvel & DC collectors- DCers are much more loyal/hardcore...did I just plant the seeds for a new thread? Raws get slabbed when they're ready to move, but if a JLA movie never gets off the ground, I see no reason for OO collections to get the CGC treatment/see the light of day. Confidentially, I still have roughly 65% of my original JLAs (read:upgrades) that I had slabbed back in 2000-2002. Mainly for preservation reasons, displayability, and of course the realization that early old labels would bring a premium due to the quick spread of pressing. I'm a mind reader, doncha know! Note: I'll say it now- If the proliferation of early ish 9.8s continues without cause(movie), that'll be due to the relaxed grading and/or desire to push the market further. So I'll have to re-sub a bunch. Which means double dipping for CGC, but at least I'll get to benefit like everyone else. for now...until we get engorged with 9.9s. *yahoo* Rick
  7. Wassup Rick! Just enjoying no longer being part of the comic rat race! Well, if things keep going the way they're going, I'll be joining you shortly. The #11 9.8 is an "improved" 9.6, by the way... Just thought I'd get that down in writing now for future reference. Rick
  8. I'm humbled by the fact that this is the first I've seen of this ish. In my defense, I don't even consider appearances/cross-overs until I complete the main title first. But this is definitely on the list. Delicious copy; what's keeping it from grading higher...URC? I join Tim in my preference of the old labels, for the decreased chance of manipulation as well as the ever building nostalgia for the good ol' days (2001). Rick
  9. Sweet-looking copies, Hepcat. I'm not even sure there were 5 really standout JLAs, because I just can't get fired up over issues like 37 or 32, even if they're in 9.8. I think 3 were fairly noteworthy: 1. 29 2. 11 3. 40 Yea, now my #11 9.6 is no longer special...anyone want it before I toss it? And not for nuttin, but did it just start raining 9.8s for lower #'s in other titles besides JLA? This must be CGC's business model: after 5 years of a 9.4 barrier, bust out the 9.6 grades to force collectors to upgrade. After 10 years, do it all over again with 9.8 grades- rinse & repeat. So in 5 more years, expect a deluge of 9.9s...? Can you tell I'm upset? Oh, hi Tim. What's up? Rick
  10. sweet books; always had an affinity for #30 and Amazo. Ressurection. . again!! Gotta admit I'm stymied over how a title with as long a history as this one (and over-the-top sales) gets so little attention on the boards. Not unhappy...less attention means less competition...just a lil flustered. OK, carry on. Rick
  11. Ressurected again! If I'm not dead, neither is this thread! I've got my restored #3 9.0 valued at around $1000-1200, so do what you will with that info. Rick
  12. Roy, one can only assume it's due to speculation based on the perennial notion that a JLA will be made...someday? Outside of Flash & WW, what other DC title hasn't been movie-ized ? I mean, besides Ambush Bug, naturally. sufunk, that's the sickest #1 I've ever seen... *bear in mind I'm 47, so sick means "bad" to me,* but it's still better than what I've got. For now. Rick
  13. "MORE" of a slimebag? Didn't realize my reputation preceded me. OK, personal inventory time: Shill bids - check Non-disclosed pressing - check Have drinks with Dupcak - double check What am I missing guys? Something involving Comic Supply with me in a prostrate position? C'mon people, knowlegde is power!! Rick
  14. Man, you don't do anything small, do you? Congrats! Thanx Tim; they all came from the same Mother AND Father, so we got a quantity discount. So now, if I understand economics correctly, having four children permanently means I'll have more of everything, right? Money, time, energy, room for my stuff...suicidal dreams...uh, wait... Rick
  15. You are correct in your assumptions, sir! And even though this discussion involves early bronze issues, I'm still gonna help. Here's the most current breakdown: #101 - 53 copies / 22-9.6 / 6-9.8 ---last sale $379 7/10 for a 9.8 #102 - 25 copies / 9.9.6 / 1-9.8 ---last sale $190 2/10 for the 9.8 #103 - 15 copies / 1-9.6 / 1-9.8 /---last sale $85 9/09 for a 9.4 The info shows that though there are more of 101, they are still more sought after. But the cheap price on the lone 102 9.8 is due to...shall we say, negative eye appeal? I need a high 102 & I didn't even bother bidding on it. Depending on your definition of NM or "respectable shape," you should have one in your possession soon. Rick
  16. JLA 1 are awesome! I need one for my collection someday. I love the cover of this book My favorite part has to be placing Aquaman at the head of the table. ...Aquaman...?! Rick
  17. I've picked up a filler here, an up-grade there. Priorities have changed in the last 3-4 months, John. Just finalized the adoption of our 4 kids in court today, so the foster care money is done. And that whole "being unemployed" schtick is starting to get old...so I'm forced to scale back & shoot for only the key-key books I need. Or at the very least make someone else over-pay for them. Rick
  18. Actually, I was emphasizing how bidding action would have been even stronger on both sites if I was in a position to buy. What you call "non-factor," I label "excellent timing" for any other HG JLA collector. Savor it boys n girls, it won't last long. Rick Oh, and thanx for your support, Tim (I assumed your mystery buyer snagged the #3).
  19. agreed- i wonder why? One reason is...me. On the one side, I just lost my job at the Wynn Casino then immediately signed up for the WSOP at the Rio. So I've been busy re-sorting my priorities for the time being. Otherwise, the #3 (and a couple others) would have been mine. Or at least would have gone for substantially more. On the other side, a handful of the JLAs on Clink were my under-copies. So no competition from me on those. Didn't realize my lack of participation as a buyer could have such a profound effect on the JLA market. Go figure. Rick
  20. JLA #1 9.4 in the latest pedigree auction: $40,000 missed it by that much.... maybe next time. Rick
  21. Nice copy, John. (thumbs u Oh, and "you're welcome." Rick
  22. Guess I'll have to pick one up if I want to maintain my rep... Rick
  23. because the team that started the Marvel universe should always be on the 1st page! Rick
