  1. very cool!! have a copy of modern love 1? i have a 7.0 blue....
  2. Please let the grading gods be with me on this one.... Its that time again. I will be sending 5 raw books out to be graded. I have a box of about 30 EC comics that I have accumulated that need to be graded. The last run didnt go as well as I wanted so Im hoping for better luck this time. Usually I send a book in thinking its a 7.0 and I get a 5.0 back....so this time i am not going to have high expectations. Ive learned I only get bummed once the verdict is read. So to spare myself the the unpleasantness Im going to think low and cross my fingers. The list is as follows.... Weird Fantasy 12 Weird Science 16 Crime Suspenstories 24 Vault of Horror 20 Vault of Horror 35.... I have been buying graded comics the last couple months which I think is best unless your getting a raw book for dirt cheap. But I have quite a few goodies in this box. Wish me luck, and I will post the grades when I receive them with a photo. Please God no purple labels.....ugh cheers. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 3. Some slightly new ECs to add to collection... Got these a little bit ago....dont mind the glare on the photos. The Crypt of Terror is one of my favs. I love the title and the 3 issues that were published before the title switch have the coolest covers. They are really hard to find, of course, but I am happy with the copy I have. Now if I can only get ahold of the other first 2...... I actually do have a crypt of terror 17 but its in really, and I mean really rough condition. It looks like it went through the war. At least the cover does but the inside pages are off white and some-what nice condition. Based on the cover Id say a 2.0 Thats better than nothing I guess maybe ill have it graded. Anyway enough rambling. The Haunt of fear is really beautiful. Not my most favored cover but I am happy to have it... Now the Tales from the crypt 28 is fantastic. I received this from a really nice guy on ebay I have purchased from before. Great book and classic cover...can you imagine being buried alive? Also a 8.0.... I never argue with a 6.0 or higher. I swear it gets harder and harder to find books in anything better than a 4.0 And some, if you do come across them they are a fortune. But I guess it could be worse, I could be collecting early human torch marvel mystery comics. Those are amaaazzzzing!!!....but I cant afford them. So I have about 3 more books being shipped as we speak...a Weird Fantasy 17. and also a spider man and a fantastic four. I think its a Spider man 66. I love the cover, Mysterio!! AND it being a 9.4 doesnt hurt either....haha Ill post a picture once I receive it.... Cheers Oh and also anyone who has replied to my posts with kind words and encouragement, thank you. Its rad to have some of you guys with amazing comic collections say nice things about mine....so thank you and cheers!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 4. Some low grades but still fun to have... I just recently got these back from the graders. I have a box full of raw books i bought when i first started collecting so im slow sifting through them and sending them off to be graded. I was pretty good with my guess as to what each book would get, Im thankful that i was only off on one, that being the Crime Suspenstories 1. I bought it under the pretense it was a 8.0 with no restoration but clearly i was mistaken.... thats a bit of a disappointment but thats what i get buying a raw book with high expectations. Never again. Ive ranted about this kinda thing before so i wont go on and on... I was hoping for a bit more with the haunt of fear 9. I love that cover. Its funny how books can look so great just from looking at the cover but have a lower grade than you expect...I find this to be the case in a good majority i own. Overall I wasnt too off base and Im happy to have them. Im not too much of a snob, I still favor some of my 5.0s over some of my 7.0s. Its all about the cover... I will add that I nose dived on heritage this last weekend losing a bid on a book I really wanted....it ruined my day.. But on a good note Im expecting a Crypt of Terror in the mail along with a Haunt of Fear and a Weird Science.... I will definitly be making a post for those. Also i recently received a Fantastic Four 51 and a Daredevil 8 in a 30 dollar grab bag....kinda cool...they are no NM but in decent condition... Id put a photo up but Im not sure as how to upload mulitple photos...oh well. Cheers! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. I have one.... a 4.0 but how the hell do i post a picture of it? i dont understand this thing! haha darn....
  6. My first key Marvel purchase.... I do not usually collect silver age or bronze age marvel or key issues...but recently I figured there may be an investment quality to buying some of these. They seem fairly popular and sought after. So I was looking to get a Hulk 181. Ive always loved Hulk and who doesnt like Wolverine? right? So i placed a high bid on a soon ending 8.0 and was out bid. Ill catch up to another copy later. But I also placed a bid on an Amazing Spider-Man 129 and won the auction. Its an 8.0. Im sure this would be an elementary purchase to some heavy collectors, but Im pretty happy with the purchase and have now developed an interest in buying more key books. What i can readily afford at least.... Ive heard people say from an investment stand point that the key Marvel issues in higher grade are a good investment more so than other comics just because of the sheer popularity rather than having a large collection of random books between 3.0 and 6.0 I know a large amount of collectors have big collections of high grade Marvel books. Am I on the right track with this? I usually collect EC horror and sci-fi and other misc. titles just because i love the golden age horror stuff. So this is a whole new path of collecting....Im just curious as to where the market will be for some of these titles in the future... Cheers To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 7. How many times have i sent a book in to be graded, knowing, or hoping for a high grade based on the exterior and interior and was totally let down by the grade given...? too many times... I have sent numerous books with high hopes of a 8.0 0r at least a 7.0 and once the book has been graded received a 5.5 What is this? If it looks like a duck and acts like a duck isnt it usually a duck? I recently sent is a Crime Suspenstories #8 that had many qualitys of a 8.0 to 8.5 grade. Sharp corners. No split. High gloss. No tears. No spine roll, and white to off white pages. It was a truly great looking book. I had high expectations, but upon getting it back it was not was i thought for sure it would be. 5.5???!!!??!! Appalled of course, I contacted the cgc and told them my concerns, no help of course... But I really think it was under graded...and now worth a significant amount less than it could be... So what can I do? The interesting thing is I have submitted other books that i clearly expected a 5.0 and received an 8.0!!! WTF! No complaints of a high grade, dont get me wrong. But its confused me as to how my books are being looked over and if my grades are being given depending on how many cups of coffee each grader had that morning....it doesnt make sense.
