Herbie #1,8 and 9.  I have more than half the run now.

the backs of the boards have very detailed notes.  I wonder what the numbers and letter codes mean?  Could have been a comic shop catalog system, but then why so much detail in the descriptions?

Will you post the back cover of #9? I want to see the vintage tire tracks.

Not just a panel, but the whole cover.

This may have been posted somewhere earlier in this thread but this cover bears mentioning, nothing going on here makes any sense. Is the window the Thing is in open or closed? Must be open if Paste Pot Pete is getting to the Thing like that but the hashing above the Thing’s head is the same as the window next to it the Sandman is trying to get in that is obviously closed. But, if it’s open, why is the Sandman even bothering with that window and….well, how did this even pass to printing when you know they sometimes made other covers that were better than this be redone at times.

I've always wondered what Medusa's hair is attached to here. Do the Frightful Four have a helicopter?

I always thought it was a staple/feature of the hobby and a dream of collectors to find ridiculously underpriced items and bask in the warm glow of their unbelievable luck, but apparently that now means you're a selfish, evil person or something.  (shrug)

Don't get me wrong, I understand how people can and will take advantage of ignorant widows and orphans and whatnot, but finding something like that in an antique store or comic store is one of the unique thrills of the hobby.

Besides, I hear that dealers aren't your friends, right...? :baiting:

Did your mom give you permission to post this?

I mean any talk like that is going to be minorly political, but I get where you're coming from lol. It's less about his right to film (it is his right) and moreso the impression it makes on people around you. There is press, and there is Press. When it's professional Press, there's a certain level of expectation already established where them having professional-level equipment exudes an expectation that they will act professionally and are coming from a place of reporting as a job. When it's a random person with a (albeit decent) amateur's camera, it starts off on the wrong foot, because they could be anyone.
Funny you should mention cosplay, because I am a cosplayer. Someone taking a candid with a semi-professional camera doesn't bother me. Honestly, I would like them to ask mostly so I can exchange socials with them, because I love con photographers! But some rando taking a picture on his phone while I'm digging around in my bag in the ATM line (true story) comes off as inconsiderate/selfish. Like why do you want a terrible quality photo while I'm looking for my debit card? If someone comes up to me at an event with the ameteur camera already rolling, there's every chance it could be for one of those hyper critical YouTube essays or weird TikTok "I'm accosting you on the street" videos, which I wouldn't want to be a part of, since we haven't established the social contract of being honest upfront.

I'm not into cosplay, but I do get a kick out of seeing people in their elaborate outfits doing super mundane stuff like standing in line at Starbucks or walking out of the restroom. That being said, it never crossed my mind to pull out my phone and take pictures.

This is another typical thing that happens. Images take long to load when page is loaded. Icons take a minute or so to appear. Here is what I see when a page loads. Notice blank icons.

Main thing I notice is that you need to charge your phone dude.

The placement of eyes that are painted on can be pretty random with Marvel Select, Marvel Legends, or almost any other toy line.  I've got plenty of cross-eyed, side-eyed, looking up, or looking down figures across all lines.  But it definitely was weird for them to use a cross-eyed version in their prototype pics.  :screwy:

Here are how mine turned out as an example, but I'm sure there are plenty of figures with far more extreme placement.  Looks to me like mine are looking up very slightly.  I'm fine with it as it's extremely subtle.

Oh that looks MUCH better than the prototype. Pretty nice actually.

Got the Marvel Select Mr. Fantastic this week pictured below.  I was hoping to use the wrap effect in one major way, and that worked out great--wrapped around Galactus's forearm.  It fits great as shown in the second pic below.  It can also fit around beefier characters like the Marvel Legends Thing, at least below the shoulders which are too wide to fit in.  But poses with Thing's body and legs wrapped up by Reed with his arms sticking out of the top work great.

Marvel Select is a different scale than Marvel Legends so in general they're too tall to fit with Legends, but when it's an oversized character then it can work out great.  Their Destroyer, Titanium Man, Super-Skrull, Juggernaut, and Colossus all fit fine with Legends, and so does Reed here with his stretchy accessories installed (neck, torso, legs, and arms) since the scale of stretched body parts is irrelevant.

Did they fix the goofy crossed eyes that the prototype has?

I really loved the COC #2 when I was 13. Hope it still lives up to my memories. It was graded as a 6.0 and the Showcase at a 4.5 from MCS.

Showcase 61 is one of my favorite silver age covers. What's not to love about the devil smacking Spectre in the head with the Earth while Spectre is socking him in his big gut. And who knew Satan wore blue tighties?
