  1. Thanks @AnkurJ...my eyes did deceive me then on one piece at least one. Now to find out how many kidneys I need to give away before I talk to Albert.
  2. Thanks for the pics @AnkurJ Do you recall who the dealer is that has the (unless my eyes deceive me in your 2nd picture) the Tim Sale Superman, Byrne Wolverine and Mignola Hellboy yelling T-Shirts? Some great stuff on display there. Now I wish I had gone.
  3. For those prices you might as well just buy his recent covers. I know that he was looking for $20k for the Harley Quinn anniversary issue, just to put things in perspective.
  4. Mr Wonderful seems to be going about an average of a minute a piece so just time it out right from there for what your hunting. He isn't going to suddenly speed up.
  5. I have no problem with over-sized artwork except for trying to get a decent scan of the work and then piecing it together on my computer. I actually prefer the work on the larger side since I feel like the details of the piece show more to me. The only time I have an issue with some art is when I feel the piece is too damn small. I, like a few other collectors here, have let those items go due to the size making the piece feel underwhelming to me.
  6. Really that's the best way to collect anything. A lot of things in the world ebb and flow and what is hot now, will probably cool off down the road. Art can definitely be an outlier of that scenario. The da Vinci painting that went for WAY more money than projected is proof that art can definitely defy the odds. I believe everyone is in agreement on the fact that Sean has found a way to command the prices he wants and he's able to secure it, so bravo to him on doing it. Hell, I'm sure any of us would love to be able to quadruple our pay for doing what we do. Maybe Sean should teach me a class on negotiating. Regardless, I just really hope the people buying this art are true fans, because it just seems to be a LOT of hype on a book that for now is getting a luke warm reception and buying these pages in hopes that you will cash in on Sean's work is ,to me, a long shot at best. Here's to the collector that lands that da Vinci level comic page though!
  7. I have such conflicting feelings on all of this. On the one hand I commend Sean on getting top dollar for his interiors for a book that is coming out currently. That is quite a feat that he pulled off. However, I'm concerned that his prices are so high that he could potentially change the pricing market even more for original art out there. Who's to say the next artist doing a good run on Batman doesn't take this kind of lead and starts moving that needle further north. Prices always go up on pretty much everything as we all know, but to push that high that quickly instead of letting the market guide the pricing path just bothers me. That's all speculation on my part. I have no hard data to back that concern, so I could be completely off about that, but I can't shake that feeling that this doesn't have an upside for anyone outside of Sean and the fans who truly love this art and want to keep it.
  8. Wow. This is great. Thanks much for spearheading this!
  9. Don't know if you follow the auction houses much, but comiclink has a bunch of Mignola Hellboy pages ending soon in the latest auction - http://comiclink.com/Auctions/search.asp?FocusedOnly=1&where=auctions&title=mignola&ItemType=CA
  10. Thanks for sharing pics from the show. That Kirby piece is wonderful. Nothing but Darkseid.
  11. Ah. Thanks for the info. True, but that is not always the case. If enough people come forward then opinion's can be swayed if they see a pattern. I've heard about some bad experiences with some big artists and while they aren't publicly shared, they are definitely known by everyone in the hobby that's been in it for a while. Of course like anything else, this all boils down to opinion. Jeff Singh on the podcast states that he will wait years as long as communication is kept up. I on the other hand cannot do that. If I have no money in it, then, sure, I can wait 20 years since I have nothing to lose, but if someone is holding onto several thousand dollars of my money and can't deliver after 2 years of constant delays then I just can't do it. My mind just keeps circling back and saying to me I just gave them a loan for an indeterminate amount of time, which outside of close friends and family I will not do.
  12. Another Fantastic podcast @Nexus I really enjoyed hearing Jason's take on the overall collecting aspect along with yours and Daniel's as well. It's interesting to note that after one has been in this hobby for a while, you begin to know which artist has a reputation for being very late with commissions or non-communicative about work being done on said commission and how fellow collectors will warn friends and new collectors about them off to the side, but there just seems to be a general queasiness in calling them out publicly. It's a bit odd that we are all in agreement that the Donnelly's are pretty much outed at every turn for their practices, but if an artist cannot seem to get a commission piece out the door after 3 years of it being paid for is not really mentioned anywhere and people have to be warned off to the side. I certainly understand that people are friends of certain artists and are maybe concerned that if the artist is potentially slandered that ties can be severed unintentionally, but should an artist not at least be held to some sense of accountability for the transaction that occurred? I'm not trying to start a fire and pitchfork protest on targeting artists since, lets be honest, there are always 2 sides to a story and not every collector is innocent in how things went on their end either sometimes. I'm always of the opinion that one should work it out directly with the party that they have the issue with before they go running to the internet to vent, but it seems sometimes things just cannot get sorted out correctly until the person goes public with the information. I guess I should just shut up and say that I am very thankful that there are art reps that help people like me navigate the waters on not only getting artwork, but are offering me a safety net to make sure the deal is seen through to its proper conclusion.
  13. Great to meet you at the show @JadeGiant You guys made the show that much better. I did not manage to have much time away as I hoped but I did get to the one BMV location down by the Silver Snail and man that one alone was great. While no where near the size of the other store, there were some good bargains to be found. I struck gold with a signed Frank Quitely book for $20. I will definitely make it a priority to get to the Bloor location next year. Oh and if anyone is looking for a sweet tooth fix while in Toronto, you should stop in at Sweet Jesus and get some decent ice cream.
