Nice number 1 there... what run are you trying to complete? To 25, 50? -
And yet we've had such a huge run up on ST110 prices. With almost NO movie production info whatsoever. Surely prices on this will flatline for a while. I did notice Antman is starting to get more and more casting news. I think I saw a quote today that it would be fully cast by the end of the year. People realize that Dr Strange is not another Antman. Strange will not be there for comic relief in between the major movies of the phase. Rather, the Strange movie will be the center piece of Marvel's third phase, as Feige has said. The third phase will be the magical phase. It fits in with the Harry Potter and Twilight crowd and I think it is likely to become immensely popular. People want to get in on this before prices get out of reach. Also, if someone is looking for the next AF15 and wondering what it could be.. then perhaps Ditko and Stan's other major character besides Spider-man could be a good choice.

When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?
AlexanderM replied to The-Collector's topic in Comics General
Yes, I think it also depends how many years the TV series run. If it runs for many many years like TMNT so that many almost generations grow up with it then it could positively affect the staying power of WD. -
When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?

That is true, but it really depends. If there is the hope somehow that the series will continue on TV at a later date, or some other incentive, then some people might hold on to it. -

I think this is pretty much what will happen. The book itself is probably not worth 1K in 9.8 but the limited run means that it will probably maintain that level of significant value. -
$39,000 and counting.. It is gorgeous though, and many people don't know Dr Strange now, but if they build him right (I have an idea for this ) in the movie then I think this could rival Spider-man and Wolverine as Marvel's top billing.

Brave & Bold #28: Speculation on future pricing
AlexanderM replied to accessndx's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
BB28 is the first appearance of the Justice League. Not any old group of Super heroes.. Superman, Wonder-woman, Flash etc. These are all super-heroes which in their own right are very arguably historically much more important than Iron-man etc. from the Avengers, or any of the X-men. It is also arguably the most iconic cover in comics! Now, so that noone get their panties twisted let's just say one of the most iconic. Personally I have this and AF15 fighting for the spot in the Silver Age group. But of course I know that some might say Hulk1 og some other book. -
Congrats! To me this is the most iconic silver age cover next to af15.

He should never play a super hero because he always wants to play a "dressed-up Seth" and look how funny I am.... rather than staying true to the character and being the character. It will not be a super-hero movie, but rather a movie with Seth Rogan dressed up as a super-hero.

Sale of the Year - New Mutants #98 CGC 9.9 for $12,250
AlexanderM replied to delekkerste's topic in Comics General
All I can hope is that some day some industrious Economics Student does a google search on their Economics Professor, manages to put two and two together, and then facefarks him with this wall of deliciousness. It appears he was also the buyer on the first HFH #1 9.8 copy that cost him over $10k. The most recent 9.8 sold for $2,300 This guy is not doing so well! Or he is doing really well. -
When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?
AlexanderM replied to The-Collector's topic in Comics General
What some people seem to forget was the Walking Dead #1 was hitting close to $800 before there ever was talk of a TV show, so this Walking Dead has been quite the anomaly. I'd suggest people keep on forgetting this as it's not true :: Such an annoying reason -

It could but it is unlikely. WD on the other hand I think will pop. -

When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?

Of course not... but "it was a low run " Well yeah, it was, but there are many many titles that had similarly low runs that are not even worth their original cover price.. -
When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?
AlexanderM replied to The-Collector's topic in Comics General
The TMNT analogy will only be applicable to TMNT if WD winds up having either films or TV shows constantly on the air for the next 25 years. TMNT has had movies, TV shows, toy lines, books, comics, and licensed material over the entirety of that time span. That's more responsible for the enduring nature of the franchise than anything else. Another big factor is that TMNT is geared towards children through movies, TV and toys. They just keep making more children. Every few years you can reboot, retool, and re-release the same TMNT material to an entirely new group of children who will eat it up. Things geared entirely towards adults, and without the marketing flexibility that children's licenses inherently possess will have an inevitable ebb and flow of their popularity over time. +1 WD is I think more like 'Lost' than TMNT in that it will come and go like Lost. GOTG has a much higher chance of being like or surpassing TMNT in terms of merchandize and enduring interest. -

The series LOST was incredibly popular... and now its out of sight out of mind. I think the same thing will happen to walking dead. But time will tell. -
When will/will the WALKING DEAD bubble burst?
AlexanderM replied to The-Collector's topic in Comics General
I think it will start to pop when they announce the tv series is discontinued. Then it will seep for 6 months before plummeting when people realize it is only going one direction and people fall over each other to get rid of the books. -

Hmmm.. so none of the 'real' JLA in the movie, just some newer lower-level heroes? I think we are talking about different things... -

I see it a bit differently. I can see your point. But I think another trend will more than counter this. The 'nerd' and comics 'life styles' are becoming more and more main stream. Look at the large comic cons. These are driven by young people and they are growing every year. We are even seeing them start to pop up abroad. Many of these young people have the immidiate interest in comics which means many of them will buy comics when they can afford it as they get older. Many of the most successful youtube channels are interested in comics and go to comic cons (eg Kassem G etc.). They have millions of viewers. I honestly see the whole comics scene going from a little group of people to becoming more and more main stream and I think the price increases we have seen are partly due to this trend. And I think it has just started. -

In my opinion the two biggest and most important keys from the silver age (and perhaps even the two most iconic covers) are.. the exact two in your signature! -
The DEGREE of KEY (or books on your KEY list)
AlexanderM replied to ItsJustRyan's topic in Comics General
Movie just gave an ambiguous popularity, that’s all. Both for good and for bad… Stan and Jack? Or Steve But seriously Murphy Anderson and many others many great comics at the time... But like Valiant says the movies are what really pushed all these above SC4 etc. And no-one knows if Flash and others will reclaim the throne in the future thus making their first appearances, origins and first issues more desirable again. -
The DEGREE of KEY (or books on your KEY list)
AlexanderM replied to ItsJustRyan's topic in Comics General
Yes. Just like Toyota sells more cars than Porsche Seriously though.. being the most collected has good points and bad points. It shows demand. But if tastes change (due to newer versions of the heroes getting popular, or movies etc.) then the much lower number of preserved DC comics will mean that the prices will sky rocket due to the much higher scarcity. Yes, and no. The fact that Marvel is more popular for silver age comics hasn't meant that GA Timely's are worth more due to their relative scarcity to GA DC. Marvel SA will always be the silver age to collect, no matter how popular DC characters become in the future. Just as DC GA comics will be the ones to collect no matter how popular Marvel characters become in the future. This makes me think about Action Comics 252. The introduction (not a reintro) of a major character that is more scarce than comparable Marvel comics character introductions. Why is this book not worth more?!? Like Supergirl v. Ant-man, for example? Shouldn't it be worth more than TTA 27? Super girl is not a major character in a 'timely' manner... nor does she have a series of expensive hollywood movies out about her... But if that changes... -

I meant if for example Flash movies come out and become great hits while Flash becomes the top selling modern comic book. Then over time the Silver picture could change. We know that for example SC4 was considered the most important Silver key by many until all the Marvel movies came out. So there is no reason to think this could not happen again.
