  1. Is the general consensus the best inker for 60s and 70s JB is Palmer?
  2. I think adding the trade dress makes all the difference between vintage commission and vintage unpublished covers. It just feels more special, more official. It’s why the “certain dealers” keep buying old commisions and slapping badly made stats on them and calling them “unpublished covers”, it moves the product better. They occupy the middle ground between published vintage and finished convention/fan commissions, moving closer to the published than commission side.
  3. Yeah that was the original. it was the only early HM painting i've seen for sale in years, and it went for a fraction of its true value IMO. Someone straight up stole that. As for Chiodo, i've really had luck with him in those auctions. I think that was a great box checker. it looked great and it had all the elements you would want from the book.
  4. heavy metal painting. Beyond rare painting from one of the first 10 issues. Double page awesome violent image....sells for 250 bucks?!?! i paid a lot more then that for it. Guess no one cares about HM anymore, at least not early days art that isnt Moebius and such. I dont think you could find let alone touch a page from that early for under a grand, not a full painted one. Someone made out on that one.
  5. Everything performed well this time, well one piece bombed hard but it was the odd man out.
  6. It was...a good auction overall...pieces I offered on caf for less overperformed. I have just learned HA is where it’s at.
  7. The Nancy daily blows my damn mind. I expected 350-400. Hell the Sunday is becoming a steal price in comparison. The pogo I knew would hit hi, it’s like the Nancy: elite and vintage. That always moves well. I like seeing all the smalls go at once. A few covers and pieces could have been in signature Friday or Saturday but honestly I like weekly auctions better. Lot of eyes, good description, and not a ton of competition. Monday’s a good night too. again lot of stuff is going cheap so far and some folks will get some great deals , but overall it’s always a solid return with HA.
  8. I like it all at once. It usually doesn’t compete with itself, I have a ton of material coming up over the next few weeks too but this the single biggest. The V cover was pretty awesome. It has a lot of watchers too so I’m happy with that. Few lots going low, some folks will get a deal or two out of this I’m sure but I figure what it sells for is market since everyone had a chance to see it and bid.
  9. I just meant it was the only similar cover from the ERA I could remember.
  10. Top 5, hands down (or up in this case). This is one of my favorite comics of all time. It defines horror comics for me. The entire genre is so jarring and interesting when compared to most other comics of the time, it’s no surprise what a premium those elite scare cover books go for.
  11. Hello Friends, My turn to pimp some auctions. I have 100+ lots going in this week on Heritage ending on Monday July 27th. Have a look at the list, see if theres anything your interested in. 12. 1. post production coloring of Black and White pages. 2. Signatures in the middle of the art, in an intentionally left blank area 3. huge tears through panels.
  13. The committee had a long hard look at this comment, much debate was had. We have decided to allow this to stand. While it comes close to complimenting TMWMNBP (‘The Man Who Must Not Be Praised’ for you newcomers) it never crossed the line. -ARTSOC
  14. See I think there are a lot of great pages that do their job and just look right. I love the overall feel and balance to the page (hate saying composition because it sounds haughty). I think it’s great. Just having a Spider-Man on the page makes it good IMO. If he is fighting someone major it becomes that elite level. To each their own though. I’ve sold some mcspidey before for like 4-6k years before that just had spidey on them in minor panels or obscured. I think this was a full market but not nuts buy.
  15. Thats a great page, with an iconic image of spidey on top. it feels right, perfect display page.
  16. no one seen this before? It could be unpublished but it’s so finished I’d find it surprising. I got it with another that was published but it doesn’t seem to be from same card set.
  17. Hello friends and neighbors. Anyone happen to know if this painting was ever published? I acquired it recently with other BROM art and I just can’t identify this one piece.
  18. I'm not seeing that. One set of people, with no actual understanding or expertise, bought common hyped garbage cause someone told them "its fire baby" and then did nothing with that shoddy poorly thought out investment in terms of capitalizing on it properly. Of course that's gonna fail 99% of the time because its lazy based on bad planning. The other set of people are art industry folks who worked in the industry and didn't have anything spent on this rare valuable material, it was never planned to be "my round the world" fund. When they go to sell off 100% of the time they are getting paid huge amounts of funds. Group A is common and aggressively chased a market they knew nothing about. Group B is rare and had no money sunk into these pieces that no question are massively desirable. I don't see connection in this one.
  19. I didn't participate directly even though I am a premium member, but I did use the extra traffic to throw a few pieces up for sale. Many of them sold so i was happy. My general rule is try to only sell fresh (or at least not shopped to death) material for just a bit under established market value. It tends to straighten things out and keeps games to a minimum and it proved effective again this weekend. There are 3 shows just off the pacific ocean near LA. There are 3 shows off the Atlantic ocean near NYC...and that's it. I travel multiple times a year to these types of specialized shows, from the Midwest, which most regional collectors like me talk about but just never do. Having an online the show like this fills the gap for those collectors considering its unlikely those thousands of well off engaged collectors will ever get an art show within traveling distance of them. Even after the coronavirus situation settles, I think online shows like this should be continued to engage with them.
