  1. Be patient... He's just waiting for a sucker to pick that at $1,700. When I see dealers or store owners charging on-line prices, it definitely leaves a bad taste.
  2. 1,148 (thumbs u Thanks! How do you know that? By the way, what would be a fair price for buying it? eBay prices don't look fair to me, but I could be wrong. Diamond Retailer Sketch is whack! Not worth a penny in the long term if you ask me. If I were you I'd focus on key issues. It will be worth your time and money to buy another copy of issue 19 or 2 than another variant cover.
  3. Yessir... Still on top of my pull list. I'm surprisingly enjoying titles with strong female leads - Black Widow, Wonder Woman (SM&WW)and Velvet. My 14-yr old self would have kicked my ...
  4. Sweet... Can't wait for the day to own that bugger!!!
  5. I respectfully disagree. By now WD 1 is a well entrenched modern blue chip key, to the point where people buy on the dips, thus raising the price back up whenever it falls below a certain level. Its initial print run is actually closer to 7300, not near the 10k you mentioned, and while 700 9.8/9.9's on the census certainly sounds like a lot, it is not as though they are all on the market simultaneously, and clearly their scarce availability at any given time is enough to maintain a very strong price point. -J. "modern | blue chip | key" Oxymoron: a figure of speech by which a locution produces an incongruous, seemingly self-contradictory effect, or are expressions composed of words that are not inherently mutually exclusive but express an opinion that the two cannot occur together. I would have to agree. I don't think any true 'blue chips' from the modern era have yet to be established. I would have to disagree. WD #1 even though over valued by 25%-35% till the show ends is still a blue chip book. AF 15 of the modern age. eh, might be a little early to call it the "AF 15" of the modern age. AF 15 only is what it is because generation after generation of children have fallen in love with Spiderman and grown old enough spend a butt-load (sorry for the technical term) on his first appearance. Its been what, just under 11 years since WD 1 was released? Popular or not, I might give it a bit more time before I equivalize it to one of the most highly collected and revered books in the hobby... You know, just to be sure and all. I am sure. Besides Batman 608 RRP and WD #1 what is there really to call a pull chip book from the modern age. WD #1 introduced main stream characters to the world. If TMNT #1 is best book of the copper age you have to put WD #1 the best of the Modern age so far. Just my view but yes time will tell.... I 100% agree... Walking Dead is the King of Moderns. TV show is not good anyways - at least after season 1. When the show ends, people will still keep reading the comics. Re: TMNT, kids are always going to be big fans and when they get older they end up speculating the comics.
  6. The name "Bernie" itself is very generic - RK didn't really put too much thought on that character. We kinda knew a character with a name "Bernie" will not last very long.
  7. As opposed to when? The 80's X-men run by Claremont and Daredevil run by Miller is up there - I don't recall seeing 5 variant covers, embossed, poly bagged issues during that time. There has never been a time in the history of the company when a good product was more important than a punctual product. At least not in continuity. Quality of writing trumps style back in the day. Readers were more into substance. As I've said earlier, "they were in MORE for the money" during the 90's. Marvel tried making money by pandering to insufficiently_thoughtful_persons. Every company's goal is to keep shareholders happy. Everybody knows this. They were making money without the cheesy gimmicks - they just got greedier in the 90's because the market allowed it (speculators).

Not really a fair argument, since those things weren't around during the Claremont/Miller era you referenced. It is fair to say that there's not much "great" reading in and among those holo foil, poly bagged books... Some loved Valiant in that era and they had some of that stuff. Robinson's Starman was able to avoid the mess ... But the 90s were style over substance, and art over writing. Big reason why holo foil, poly bags, etc were not present in the 80's is because people were buying books because of what's IN it. Imagine if the likes of Claremont and Miller were not there during that era, Marvel will find a way to get some of the cheesy 90's gimicks to the 80's.

  10. I personally have no interest in anything Marvel printed in the 90's. They were in MORE for the money than delivering quality stories. I don't hear people saying New Mutant is a good quality run - most people are saying Deadpool is popular. Which is exactly why NM 98 is where it's at in terms of monetary value. I get that part. That's the reality of comic books nowadays. I guess the target market here are speculators, casual fans, and kids who base decision on how many cosplayers dresses as deadpool or anything that indicates rise in popularity. Another funny thing is - most of these speculators are the ones blaming Rob Liefeld for the crash in the 90's.

Don't get me wrong - If any of you folks sells me a CGC 9.8 of NM 98 for cheap, I'm all over it. But expect me to flip it right away.
  12. People who owns NM 98 @ 9.8 is quick to refute over saturation... funny I'm just dreaming that one day I'll be owning a WD 1 cgc 9.9
  13. Yes, and it's driving us west coast people still at work crazy This thread is like a train wreck - I can't look away although it doesn't benefit me to look Pounded allot work last night and gave myself an early lunch today... The issue is well written!
  14. I'm looking forward to tomorrow as well. All out War was dragged on for far too long! I honestly believe that AOW hurt Ezekiel and Jesus' characters. They were both poorly portrayed.
  15. Exactly I'm trying to hang in there..........but it does seem like quality has be replace by quantity($) as far as the issue one reprints go. I say to any WD fan just buy the real #1 and key issues and be done with it. At the end of this WD craze the only issues that will have value is the obvious key issues. All the variants will tank. 100% Agree!! I always go with original covers as well. None of the 100B, 100C, 115M, Blank Variants, etc.... eBay is flooded with this variant stuff that nobody is buying (at least me) - unless they sell this at a very cheap price Garbage! The blanks are actually a pretty good bet... not saying necessarily for a registry set but raw and especially graded with sketch they have a lot more potential. People who want nothing to do with the registry or even a full TWD run still appreciate a sketched book. If anyone has some 109 or 115 blank going for a reasonable price I may be interested. I agree that once you get either Tony Moore or Charlie Adlard to do an original sketch on those blanks, it will be worth the money in the long term - when they stop sketching and retire. However, for an average collector (like myself) forking out hundreds of dollars to get a nice decent sketch + grading is not worth the time. I'm not sure if the market will allow an average collector to get a decent rate of return within a year or so. There's an Adlard sketch here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291139236160 But the price is stupidly insane. It costs $300ish to get a sketch from Adlard. I don't know why anyone would pay 10x the cost??? She probably saw dollar signs printing with every stroke of Adlard's pen... Seriously, that's crazy... It's somewhat good as it is creating a buzz for the industry, specifically Walking Dead.
  16. Hahaha This reminds me when I watched Peter David ate his lunch - "c'mon man I just want a signature and a quote on my comic book. It will only take 1 min"

  19. The industry needed a fall guy and too bad Liefeld was "it". Young guy who did not know any better got thrown under the bus. IMHO speculators who bought comics instead of investing in their retirement should share the blame as well - if there is demand, marvel, image, dc, et al will keep printing regardless of qualiity Voice of reason. Wow. Liefeld as innocent victim. I don't think I've heard that one before. There are some definite gems in this thread. Too bad they're not open minded, and willing to learn. I can see that. Now, let's all move forward....
