  1. The first mention of "6 Infinity Gems" is Marvel Team-Up 55. I believe I posted the exact panel maybe 6 months ago in this thread. I'm not sure where the first individual gem is mentioned but MP 1 is probably as good a guess as any. First Soul/Infinity Gem: Marvel Premiere 1 First Mention of Multiple Infinity/Soul Gems: Random Issue of Captain Marvel Here's what Wikipedia states are the 1st appearances/mentions of the gems/stones. I know Wikipedia can be edited, but more than likely whoever posted this did their homework. I found this interesting: But Marvel Wikia states SS44 as first appearance: http://marvel.wikia.com/Infinity_Gauntlet_%28Item%29 I don't have Thanos Quest 2 to verify but I do have SS44 and it's there. Are the gems in the gauntlet in SS44? That seems to be what the Thanos #2 reference is about.
  2. If the 30K print run on Point One is correct, then there were at most 400 copies of the 1:75 earned. It's almost certainly less than that, as I can't see that every shop that ordered one copy ordered at least 75, and some even multiple of 75. But then, no KK on the cover.
  3. Print variations will happen. Looks like weak cyan on the right. Are they moving at $10/each?
  4. I like the idea of a character whose abilities aren't necessarily conducive to a fighting force. Remember, these are students looking to hone their powers to their best potential. Not everyone is going to have the same ceiling of potential. Could be a great metaphor for subtext in the movie.
  5. "GIMME GIMME GIMME". Is this what RMA meant ? If so, then we probably deserve a crash. Anyone who suddenly wants this book simply because the concept of a potential movie was announced and pays "$700+" will probably lose money, as hundreds and hundreds (thousands?) of copies are now being boxed and readied for CGC as I type this. Although I do still find RMA's comments hypocritical, considering he will be an active particpant in the "madness". I don't think anybody who pays $700 for this book would ever (or have any right) to go back to the dealer who sold them the book six months later and blame them for their nonsensical impulse buy. And I don't think that is anything RMA (or any other dealer) worries about. It really is a "GIMME GIMME GIMME" on both sides then, isn't it RMA. By the way, the books to own are (still) X-men 1, Hulk 181, NM 87 and 98. Those no-name D-lister mutants in MGN 4 will not be what carry any movie (assuming the movie even happens). The general public has gone to see every x-men movie thus far essentially for wolverine. The comic fan boys want to see Deadpool and Cable now. The real X-men would undoubtedly appear in any "New Mutants" movie as well. And Oops, what if the potential title literally means what it says and FOX actually creates "new mutants" that never appeared in any comic. Quite the possibility, since, lets face it, the "new mutants" that appeared in the comics really are quite lame. -J. I think, like pretty much all other movies based on comics (with the exception of Fantastic Four, for what I think are obvious reasons), the team for the movie will pull from the entire run, maybe even from Generation X (whose rights I imagine are also with Fox, but would be a pointless title for a movie about teens these days, I think), for what makes a good dynamic for the movie. I'll point out too that at least two of the original team have been members of the Avengers recently in the comics. (I don't keep up much with current Marvel, so I don't know if that's a temporary thing.) I would think, at the very least, we'll see at least Cannonball and Sunspot in the movie. I loved the character Warlock, but it's probably far too complicated a backstory to include him in a first movie. Illyana, perhaps. There could be some good setup for a sequel with her abilities. Wolfsbane, Rictor, and Boom Boom for a 6-member team perhaps?
  6. I think you mean: CM14 < ANMN1 < CM17/2nd Not in my opinion - I know CM17/2 is $corching right now, but as far as significance... I just don't get it. Unless I'm mistaken or missing something - it's not Unnamed-Person's first appearance, not even in cameo (that's CM14). It's not the first time the name "Kamala Khan" ever appeared in comics and while in costume too (that's ANMN1). I just don't get all the hoopla about "Unnamed-Person's first appearance on a cover". But to each his own... collect what you enjoy and enjoy what you collect! I was misinterpreting one of your comments. I think this is going to be one of those situations where there is no relevant analogy to point to. But even if there was, I agree with "buy what you want." Of course, lots of collectors let what they want be influenced heavily by the market.
  7. I think you mean: CM14 < ANMN1 < CM17/2nd
  8. It's actually collected along with Ms. Marvel Issues #1-5 in the first Trade Paperback. Semantics. I think it was clear the point was it's not an excerpt from an upcoming book.
  9. Yep. I'd like to see that bubble burst as ANMP1 is actually the first app. Why the hate, man? There's room for both. BTW - Captain Marvel 17 (2nd print) cameo in book, first full costume on cover of book, release date according to Marvel: December 11, 2013 Was it really that far back? Some time ago, I decided that I was going to start collecting Carol Danvers appearances. I think with the increased attention to her the last few years, especially with the name change to the name that a pretty significant trademark for Marvel, that within a decade or so she'll be viewed as Marvel's Wonder Woman. So when the Phase 3 movie lineup was announced, I realized that I shouldn't wait on picking things up. (I had already secured several copies of Marvel Super-Heroes 13 and Ms Marvel 1 in high grade.) I hit the back issue bins for some recent books the next day. I was a little disappointed at the time that I had to settle for some reprints for certain issues. Usually they raise back issues by only a quarter. I got ripped. Phase 3 announcement was in October. That means the issue was there for 10 months. Still in decent condition.
  10. In Valiant's Archer & Armstrong, the Sect regards Armstrong similarly, calling him He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. I think it makes for sense to call the new, respectable company Armstrong, and the one run out of someone's garage Voldemort.
  11. I don't see there being as much demand there. Basically just for completists.
  12. Same ol' madness. I've got probably 20 raw 9.8s that I could really use in slabs right about now. I find it interesting (ironic) that, on the one hand you evidently believe the fact that a couple of people have maximized their profits on a famous, rare variant reflects a "GIMME GIMME GIMME" mentality, and is foretelling the end of days for the hobby in general, because you disagree with what said famous, rare variant sells for. And yet here you are in this thread, slickly cheerleading common, mass produced, copper age schlock (NM 1, MGN 4) that you conveniently have stacks of in a back room somewhere, and that nobody gave a rat's azz about until the announcement of a (possible) movie being made in the next ten years featuring (possibly nothing more than) the title "New Mutants". Interesting to be sure. -J. I don't see the post as "cheerleading." Anyway, if one is convinced the hobby is crashing, it makes sense that one might wish to cash out, no?
  13. Well, what preceded it was a financial success, so the business people said, "Make more of this!" But the creative fuel wasn't there. Happens often.
  14. Infinity +1 Capital City number = 139,800 Capital City Marvel 1992 % = 19.9% Print run for Infinity War #1 was about 700,000 copies. Sooooo... Infinity -1? About a million less than Turok #1
  15. I added on a NM copy to a Mile High order a few months ago for $1.50
  16. Still did well, though, assuming that was your copy on eBay. Not mine. Although, I should be receiving a replacement copy by this Friday. Ah, I thought it might have been this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-4-Boba-Fett-Action-Figure-Variant-Christopher-NOT-MINT-Please-Read-/151669736557?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item235038846d&nma=true&si=XsalhEQxaF7l%252FP%252FcRxYTbsRLKcg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Is that what yours looked like?
  17. I don't think you know anything about me. And if you don't think sites like Jezebel will have an article posted crying about the state of females in comics the second the current Thor book gets scrapped, I have some cloud insurance to sell you. Most of the time what motivates these people is nothing more than attention. I don't have to know anything about you personally to see that what you write doesn't correspond to reality. It's clear that you haven't taken the time to actually try to understand the perspective of those that are vocal about the representation of women (across all media, not just comics). I don't see people interested in personal attention, but rather interested in calling attention to the fact that the status quo is pretty F'ed up and doesn't treat people equally. You're going to have some irrational people in any crowd, so if you go looking for them, I imagine you'll be able to find some people trying to connect reverting to the original Thor to the issue of the representation of women when that eventually happens. But then, I don't think anyone expect that that wasn't the plan all along. It has a tenuous connection to the larger issue of the representation of women in comics. You may see some comments of people disappointed with the change because they liked the female Thor character and storyline, but that's not the same thing.
  18. Still did well, though, assuming that was your copy on eBay.
  19. Yup. Making all copies of Thor: God of Thunder #25, Avengers #30 & Thor #1 worthless. I will buy every first print copy of Thor 1 you have for cover price It definitely sucks for all who loaded up on those books, At least for the moment. I think the value will depend on what they do with the series. If everything reboots as is stated in this article http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/05/11/g-willow-wilson-supposed-to-say-jumping-on-point-not-reboot-for-marvel/ ...and we go back to male Thor, I think it will probably do what Superior Spider-man did when Peter came back. If she sticks around, all bets are off. I don't get why Marvel keeps doing the reboots. At some point, you think their base would pick up on it. I don't think a reboot or renumbering or relaunch is going to necessarily lead to the re-introduction of a male Thor. Why spend months teasing the female Thor's identity, reveal it, and then a few issues later cast her aside? Especially when the book is doing alright in sales? Plus the pc police are going to be all over Marvel if they dump one of their female leads that quickly. I really don't think you have any idea what motivates the people that you disagree with.
  20. I can only speak for my own comments, but when I tossed out my suggestions I was thinking of this more as a general thread. The books I proposed I consider Copper.
  21. Sure, but the End of Bronze/Start of Copper will certainly be within this period of incredible change in the industry: May 1979: Daredevil 158- First Miller art Aug 1979 - Tomb of Dracula cancelled, effectively ending the Marvel BA of Horror Nov 1979: Iron Man #128 "Demon in a Bottle" Feb 1980: She-Hulk #1 Mar 1980: King Conan 1 Apr 1980: Star Trek 1 Spring 1980: Epic Illustrated 1 Aug 1980 - Tomb of Dracula Magazine cancelled Sep 1980: X-Men 137- Death of Dark Phoenix Oct 1980: DC Presents 26- first New Teen Titans Nov 1980: New Teen Titans 1 Nov 1980: Moon Knight gets his own series 1980 : Superboy Spectacular- Direct Sales only 1-shot Jan 1981: Daredevil 168- First Miller -script; Intro Elektra Jan 1981: X-Men 141- Days of Future Past launches alternate time line that would form the basis for lots of uber-fandom-based X-continuity over the next several years Jan 1981: Capital Comics launches and publishes Nexus 1 Mar 1981: X-Men 143- Final Claremont/Byrne Mar 1981: Dazzler 1- First direct-sales-only for an ongoing series Mar 1981: Bizarre Adventures starts Mar 1981: Captain Canuck is cancelled May 1981: Eclipse Magazine starts June 1981: The Hulk magazine ends Jul 1981: Fantastic Four 232 - Byrne takes over FF writing/art duties. Aug 1981: Rogue debuts Aug 1981: Marvel Premiere ends Nov 1981: Captain Victory 1- First Pacific Comics issue, direct-only publisher 1981: Marvel cancels many of its reprint titles, including MGC, AA, TTA, MSA, etc. 1981: Stan Lee moves to California to head Marvel TV/movie properties, leaving Jim Shooter in charge 1981: Jenette Kahn promoted to President of DC Comics, leading the way for Vertigo and GN explosion. Feb 1982: Starslayer #1 (first Rocketeer) Mar 1982: Warrior Magazine #1 /Alan Moore (Marvelman, V for Vendetta) Mar 1982: Marvel Fanfare #1 - New Format Apr 1982: Marvel introduces Graphic Novel series, including Death of Captain Marvel and X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills May 1982: Saga of the Swamp Thing #1 May 1982: First Groo the Wanderer June 1982: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #1 June 1982: Marvel Super-Hero Contest of Champions #1 (first Marvel mini-series, precursor to Secret Wars) Sept 1982: Love and Rockets debuts Sept 1982: Wolverine Mini #1 1982: Harvey Comics, Warren Publishing and Spire Comics cease operations 1982: DC cancels remaining Horror titles 1982: Start of creator royalties at Marvel and DC 1982: Steve Geppi founds Diamond I'd add Cerebus in '77, Elfquest '78 and Raw '80 If we're looking back prior to 1979, then I think one major event that needs to be added, which is probably a bit of a catalyst for some of the other items on the list, is the DC Implosion in mid-1978. That seems like a really good starting point as it resulted in the departure of some people from DC that were responsible for some of the items on the list from Marvel.
  22. I'm sorry, but what exactly was the significance of this book supposed to be again that is causing it to "heat up"? -J. 4th printing of the first appearance of Boba Fett. So chasing "first appearances" of movie characters in comic books that are adaptations from other media really is a thing now? Speculators must be looking for pretty much anything to buy now. Guess if it worked for Harley Quinn/ BA 12, why not this. -J. He-Man, Transformers, and GI Joe spring to mind, but I am not sure what came first, the show or the comic. All three appeared in the comics before the TV shows. All three were toy properties first and foremost which were licensed to appear in comics as a means to sell toys. They are by no means original comic book properties or creations. (Much like Harley, Boba, etc). (thumbs u -J. They may have been toys first, but the bulk of the names and backstory about them were created by the comics people. http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2006/10/12/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-72/ http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2006/01/05/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-32/
  23. The Spread reprint was the first I was aware of, so I thought that was innovative when it was released. (Was it the first of these?) I can see this getting out of hand quickly though.
