  1. With the movies MI: Rogue Nation (action-2nd week), Shaun the Sheep (kids-opening), and The Gift (thriller-opening) you might be the only one in the theatre. Not only are the bad reviews off-putting, but the FF is up against some strong competition for viewer money. I agree with others that this can wait until it is streaming on Netflix, or at best Red Box. -Terry
  2. I guess I was being overly hopeful of the possibility of seeing the Fantastic Four in one of the Infinity war movies. That wouldn't make or break that movie obviously, but they (the Richards) did play a big part in the comic book version of Infinity war. -T
  3. Is there any chance that if this movie tanks that Fox would be willing to hand this franchise back over to Marvel? I know that I want to see the movie, but I also know that I will not pay $10-$15 to see it in theatres, and will most likely wait until it is streaming (months later) and will be willing to do Amazon $4.99 streaming. I think it will depend on reviews. As someone else mentioned, I might even wait until it's at Red Box. -Terry
  4. I think it's also to emphasize that the males are Men and both of those females are still girls (teens). I think Stargirl made a comment about having to do something in school in that episode (prep for a test, or homework or something). BTW: LOVE that episode. I was a total Warlord fan as a teenage nerd. -T
  5. I'm not trying to be argumentative or complicate matters. But this is the pack that the "current" holding Archie 666 Demonmicon came out of. And it does say "Current" mylites 2. Perhaps there is a bit of variance in the manufacture (of the comic books): And this is a pic the BCW "Silver" on a ruler. I'm pretty sure it's stated as being 7.5" wide but it actually measures about a 16th of an inch wider. Where as Gerber Standard are "725" or 7.25" wide. Gerber Standard aren't the same size as the BCW silver. Having said all of that. If you want extra crumple protection, go with the Standard. I like the compact nature of the Current. But I probably wouldn't if my Archie/Image/Dark horse moderns were fitting the way that Sandman looks.
  6. To answer Chris in Baltimore's question. This is a modern inside of a Gerber mylar Current: I've recently started doing this for con floppies and modern keys. This is a silver age "our fighting forces" circa '65 on top of a Standard. It's just a tad too snug to get into the bag by itself, much less with a backer. As you can see there is about an 1/8" on either side, but it's just not enough clearance for the stiffer mylar: And this is a the same silver age "our fighting forces" inside a BCW "Silver": And lastly, this is the same BCW "Silver" bag with an Iron Man from '68 inside. The iron man is not quite a 1/4" smaller than the Our Fighting.:
  7. My silver age (1968) iron mans fit in Standard. But my 1965 Our Fighting Forces does not. I prefer to put them in BCW silver age mylars. They are 1/4" narrower than the silver/gold Gerbers. So they fit in my short boxes for width (but just barely. It's a snug fit). I'll take a few pics.
  8. I just wanted to bump this, as it's a valuable thread. I should have referenced this thread the other day. As I had ordered a pack of silver/gold 775M4. But after putting in some silver-age iron man comics, came to realize that they don't fit in the short box. They are 1/4" too wide. It turns out that I had ordered BCW Silver age 4mil mylars last year. Which are 7.5" wide (and fit my short boxes). I consider it a $20 stupidity fee I had to pay for not referencing this thread. -Terry
  9. Eight issues straight from January through to September (well, almost, missed an issue in February) , with Vol.2 coming out next month. Committed to being on time and with Stjepan on board, we'll make it happen. Title Release date Rat Queens #9 March 4 Rat Queens #10 April 8 May June July Rat Queens #11 August 19 ?
  10. Thor 1 had Chris Helmsworth in it. And though I liked the comedic one liners in Ant-man, I know of several women who paid to see Thor 1 on the big screen simply because Chris Helmsworth was in it. He could have been standing on screen for 2 hours browsing a lawn futniture catalog while sipping a cup of coffee and occasionally flexing his muscles, never uttering a word and those two would have been just as happy to have parted with their cash. I asked them what the plot (of Thor) was about and they had absolutely no clue, but were simply giddy that they got to see Chirs Helmsworth being "beefcakey". I don't think Paul Rudd is going to get that auxiliary boost in revenue from female fans. I liked the movie. Saw it around noon today, so you can add another $9.50 to the total. -Terry
  11. The same thing occurred in the animated "Dark Knight Returns" movie. Where Superman was made out to be critical of Batman's aggressive war on street crime, but completely oblivious to how the Prez (Regan?) was having Sups' do much worse and with less reason. It looks like they are somehow driving Superman to be a cog in the machine in this movie. Unlike the cartoon where basically Regan just told Superman to wage war and he did it without question or any hint of self reflection. I hope the movie version sort of builds it up into a way that it seems understandable that Sups is sort of dragged unwillingly into his circumstances through manipulation that we just can't see yet. But one that makes you go "Oh. That's why he's willing to be a puppet." The animated movie makes you scratch your head and go "Why is the President treating Sups like he's an illegal farm hand being threatened with deportation if he doesn't pick the pineapples faster, and why is Sups putting up with it?" Anyhow, after the SDCC trailer, I'm very motivated to see this. -T
  12. Only posting because I can. Miss you Dave. (I know Alex Ross did those covers. But...it's still Dave's creation). -Terry
  13. Yes, but that could be considered as a lot of money in those days when cover price was only $0.30 at the time. This is probably equivalent to a $2.95 new book guiding out at $45 in next year's guide. Yep! $0.30 in 1978 is equivalent to $1.09 in 2015 dollars. $4.50 in 1978 is equivalent to $16.41 in 2015 dollars. Interestingly though, minimum wage was $2.65 in 1978, so one could buy nearly nine copies of a comic for one hour's of work back then. Today, minimum wage (federal) is $7.25 and so one could only buy maybe two copies of a comic for one hour's work today. btw... a $3.99 comic in 2015 would cost $1.09 in 1978. It can be argued that the quality of the print needs to be considered as well. Today's 3.99 comics aren't printed on flimsy news print with nearly dot matrix quality of replication. (I'm not knocking old comics. I get euphoric when I open a bag of an old silver/bronze comic and get a whiff of that smell. Or how giddy I get when I see the artwork. Just that, you can't compare the price of a Kia and its standard features of today to the price of an AMC in 1970.) -Terry
  14. Besides buttugly? It's a Hot Wheels Twin-mill concept car in full-scale that is theoretically drivable (?) though, one wonders how a driver sees past the engines. http://blog.caranddriver.com/batman-v-superman-twin-mill-is-a-real-life-superhero-hot-wheels/ -zz-zz-zz-626x382.jpg' alt='sleeping.gif.7e03cf297245314e3497c21c47b18111.gif' alt='zzz'>-zz-zz-zz-626x382.jpg'>
  15. I thought it was more of the "Did you know I met my last wife on the set of a superhero movie?" look........ Come to think of it....it may be more a "That's not my finger" shot. I don't gadet it.... Op! No. Wait. It took a minute, but I Gadot it! -Terry
  16. I wish Joe Mad drew this series. If only!!!
  17. No offense intended, but I'm not liking that Fowler artwork. I will scratch it off of my pull list if that's representative of future issues. -Terry
  18. I know someone who was charged with stealing $10,000 from a well known retailer. Their court date was at the beginning of this month and pleaded guilty. The punishment was to pay back $325 in reparations and $200 in court fees. It's good work if you can get it! Rarely does punishment ever fit the crime in our society. -Terry
  19. +1. I'd hate to think Roc's legal issue with domestic violence has eradicated his future in the industry. I don't want to down play the offense. But people make mistakes and break the law all the time without getting fired for it, much less getting black listed (not saying that he has been. Just that I hope it's not the case). I've sort of been stalking him on Facebook, and since the press announcement of his criminal charge, he's only posted a pic of himself and his daughter. He's a super talented artist. And I don't like the thought that I'll never get to meet him at a signing or convention. The fact that Image just completely cut him loose has left a sour taste with picking up titles at the LCS. I had $10 bucks in my pocket last week and nothing on my pull list, but looking for something else to grab. The first couple of comics I picked up I noticed were by Image so I put them back and selected a couple of Dark Horse comics (Frankenstein Underground and Cult of the Red King) which I'd been intentionally putting off investing funds toward. Afterwards I realized what I'd done (I had buyer's remorse). But the money was spent and Image probably doesn't care about my $10 anyhow. -Terry
  20. That NYCC version of #1 is a sweet "thank you". The Chilling adventures #4 is said to be out on July 22nd. But I wouldn't put money on it. As for Afterlife, if you can prognosticate that, you should play the lottery. -Terry
  21. Picked-up some orange and grape Crush this morning. I guess the advertising is working. (Of course, I've been buying it for years and it could be that I was just getting low on my stocks of soda), I'd like to try Raspberry crush, but I've never seen it. -Terry **EDIT** And I just realized I've been mindlessly sporting this shirt today when I bought it. Ah Dur.
  22. Did any boardies make it out to Fairfax for the Kurtis/Tamra comic signing? I wound-up working, getting stubborn computers that didn't want to be imaged, set-up for summer camp. https://www.facebook.com/thecomicshopfairfax -Terry
  23. Amadeus Cho/Hulk http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/markcassidycbm/news/?a=121456 -Terry
  24. I'm not sure if you've seen it already, Kurtis has a nice blog where you can check out his thoughts and ruminations. It's a nice read even on the non-comic book stuff. But there are some interesting back comics IIRC of The Rat Queens advice on dating and one liners. And a bit of back blurb about each rat queen. (I may be dreaming, but I'm pretty sure that's where I read them). http://kurtiswiebe.com/ I'm not sure why Kurtis doesn't advertise it though. Even if you strip out the comic book content, it has some pretty deep and thoughtful content. I might drive to Fairfax on Saturday just to shake his hand and congratulate him on his success. He deserves it. -Terry (I've already got a couple of comics signed by him, second-hand. And I'm not really a signature chaser.)
