I picked this up in a lot at an auction. Val was kind enough to ink it for me this year-the original was done in '91 and was very hard to see.

I've seen this-then I've also seen pieces bounce from auction site to auction site and each time the reserve goes up. Ultimately, it's the collector who misses out and the piece gets stuck with a speculator who doesn't really want it.

Here ya go, from 1994

I just received my first ever commission. The legendary Mike Grell created a Green Arrow piece as a companion to a Shado and Black Canary(1994) piece I won off a Heritage Auction.

I am absolutely giddy over this piece.

I do not, have not, and cannot see myself doing this.

However, I see this happen often amongst the auction sites and CAF. I've seen a Kaluta Shadow piece on Pedigree, H.A., & CLink all in the past year. It first sold for 275ish, then 325ish, and didn't sell on the last auction where the reserve was 475 (My memory may be off some but that's all ballpark).

Grats! He's a grail piece maker for many of us I'm sure.

I hate to bother Spencer because I know he's really busy, but is this standard operating procedure for him?

 

I mailed my payment (check) to Spencer 2 weeks ago. I figure, a week for snail mail to reach him? My check hasn't been deposited yet...I personally deposit all checks immediately on my phone but he may not be there yet. maybe he only deposits physically every week or 2...

 

at what point do I know my check's been lost in the mail?

My last order I received my art about a week before my check cleared. That's not how it's played out in the past however.

The poor guy is swamped. If you're concerned write him.

Likely because you stated "some I will definitely NOT sell" couples with the fact that most are marked NFS.

After hearing many stories of frustrated collectors I did find an interior page from them by an artists I like. Other sellers usually sell pages from the same series by the same talent for $100-$200.

I contacted them about the piece thinking I would be willing to go a lil higher. Note, this was a regular paneled piece not a splash or half splash or anything fancy. The price they quoted me was slightly over $1000.

Needless to say I don't even bother looking at what they offer anymore.
