  1. Masta! I know what you mean, the show was capable of delivering the most extreme highs and lows. My love for it is well documented elsewhere, but at it's best, it was the best.
  2. I used to love those Doctor Who Weetabix promotions. I wouldn't be lying, if I told you I can remember to this day the thrill of putting your hand inside that box and pulling out those cards
  3. Come on people, you know how much work is involved here for Mike, receiving, responding to and recording the content of 100+ private messages. You're not going to make him do all that at the last minute, are you? 4. Be nice to hear if that's the case, yes. I love a production / printing error more than anyone, but that is the front runner for me here as things stand, without having the book in hand.
  5. Always wear your best tie when you're giving your best girl a ring in an apple tree with a weirdo sulking behind you. Incidentally, the look on his face says he'll be secretly filming her ring later tonight with that hidden camera tie pin of his.
  6. Are they not tiny marker pen dots, along the top edge of the cover? If so, that strengthens the argument that the marker pen has bled over the top edge, where there would be no gloss, but the gloss of the flat cover has prevented bleed through showing on the inside cover. Am I talking rubbish?
  7. I don't know the answer to this one. Two of the explanations put forward seem plausible (two black plates / ink marker pen) but it's hard to say without the book in hand. I've always been interested in the order that the plates are laid down. To my logical brain, the black K plate should be done last to 'seal' the image but others in this thread have suggested otherwise. If we take a look at these two old Spidey's of mine, it looks to me like what shows as red on the cover appears to be sitting above the black in the right hand images: In the left hand images, the black K plate appears to have been applied last to 'frame' the image correctly. I'd love to hear an expert's take on what happened there. Returning to the Spanish Spidey, the cover paper stock looks very glossy. Is it possible that a weak marker pen applied to the cover would not bleed through? If not, then the only explanation left is BriD's earlier double K plate error scenario (although I'm mindful of rjpb's thoughts on how how scruffy the curves are).
  8. I'm glad you said that as I thought I was the only one who undergraded it. I went for 7.5 too, but on the basis that I'd call it a 7.0, so CGC would go higher.

  10. What an outfit And 'young love'? He looks about 35. Wonderful thread, Professor K, wonderful
  11. Back in the day you could sleep eight hours and they'd still be on the first frame I used to like Steady Eddie. Selby is in the same mould.
  12. I do, yes. Conquerors, not Conquistadors. I haven't woken up properly. Fell asleep in front of the snooker.
  13. That one doesn't turn up often. Skunky and the other two do, so maybe that had a bearing. When I was chasing the Bell Features books, there was always fierce competition on the first copy, then it tailed off a subsequent copies emerged. So likely only a handful of collectors after them. Some seller has loads of the Conquistadors, and can't sell them for a tenner anymore.
  14. Over here Stephen: Funnily enough, my last post there is a copy of that very book! I might have had a go at that ebay copy if it had come up in my searches. The seller likely lost out by not including 1946, Century etc. I'd probably have lost though too. Love the price sticker.
  15. This made me smile - an eBore seller with four copies, no less, of Marvel Tales Annual #2 up for bidding: The two UKPVs have T&P stamps and the two cents copies don't. Love it
  16. I never liked that dog, in the first panel. Odd looking thing, I always thought. And this story was my first introduction to the phrase "SIC 'IM!" I'd never heard that before and, if I'm honest, I had no idea what it meant. No Google in them days, to look that one up. Did he go back and pay her for the window in the end? I can't remember now.
  17. While we're on this subject, Rich, I wonder why there are so many 10p printed price / 12p stickered Charltons out there, in that late 76 early 77 window, but no Marvel equivalents? Have we covered this before? If all those inflation impacted Charltons did get repriced sequentially on arrival, and not in bulk at some later point, why don't we see 10p printed Marvels, which would have arrived at the same time, with 12p correcting stickers too?
  18. Fellow participants, you might not have seen this - Superman2006's cumulative performance thread. 19. Could be, Rich. Nice thought, isn't it. I can think of other scenarios though, and we are only looking at three examples to be fair (unless you have more unposted). Maybe both newsagents had lousy stock control, and both bought their stickers from the same WH Smiths I like it when you find common patterns or events, where there are just enough examples to suggest a thing, but just not enough to suggest anything concrete or systematic. This is why I have so many abandoned folders in my files, the starting point of investigations for which no further examples materialised. There's nothing for it - you'll have to make a folder, keep looking, and report back in a few more years
