  2. I meant on that particular issue Robot - the two tables I posted earlier show the various pricing scenarios that I found across the title runs. I suppose the salient differences are the branded shield vs non-shield. Here's some better images - you can see the slightly different placements in them:
  3. Comic mysteries.... It's hard to tell, but there are a few tell tale signs of a piece added around the neckline. This from the Heritage description: "Slight toning, trimmed top corners, tape residue staining on the top/bottom edges, the Punisher's face is a discolored art paste-up, whiteout corrections, with light staining and handling wear. In Very Good condition." Shall we all club together and buy it?
  4. Still on Miller, look at this: How cool is that? Now, try finding anything out about it, online. It's probably buried out there somewhere, in a blog, mag or book. Or maybe not. I've banged the drum more than anyone alive to alert the community about Miller's non-reprint UK distribution activities. It's all he'd been known for, for 70 years - reprinting stuff. But now we also know that he was joint first on the Marvel UKPV front and distributed Charlton (as UKPVs and stamped copies), Harvey, IW and Archie US originals here. But even on the reprint front, so little is known. My task now is to try to find out what Captain Tornado actually reprints if, indeed, it does. The only other Captain Tornado I can find (in Dell's Popular Comics) doesn't look a whole lot like the Miller content: I haven't looked that hard yet, to be fair, but definitely a job for another day (unless we have a Captain Tornado aficionado reading)
  5. I've posted at length about the Roberts & Vinter 'shield' stamps on Charltons in the past and spotted this copy of Horror Monsters at the fair yesterday: I love the price sticker. Anyroad (Fred Elliott), there are two UK stamped versions, one with the R&V shield, and one with a bog standard two an six: I spent a bit of time on these a few years back, as you can see... ...but this is the first copy of one that I've actually had in hand. There is a brilliant ad inside for Charlton comics - I love that: The obviously didn't have scissors back in the 1960s. The big discovery for me was that the R&V stamp on the cover is just that - an after printing stamp. You can feel the indentation that it has made and, hopefully, see it in the photo below: It's quite a deep indentation, but I can't detect any impression on the splash page. Make of that what you will. I have a few examples of this issue in the files, and the cover placement seems the same on all issues, implying mechanical application. I love this kind of thing. No way of knowing whether it was applied at source, or later in the UK. No way of knowing why there are two types and whether those two are the work of one or two distributors. All good fun. He's one ugly sod isn't he, our cover star. She...?
  6. Nice. 1966 is often mentioned but I have stamped books going all the way up to 1970. I started this table a few years ago - never finished it - and I've likely got earlier and later examples now: I'd like to get around to finishing that at some point, as part of a wider piece on Miller. Florrie clearly carried the company on in some capacity. There are also letters dated in the 1970s to be found online, with the Miller office masthead. Yeah, who'd want one of those! Me You have I good eye, Robot. I noticed this when I was tinkering with the Harvey (UK) 15c variants. They always seem to cut it off, top right: Do you think it was deliberate? Maybe that invalidated it, so they could get away with fat shaming and the like: Love it
  7. Oo-er. I made an offer in late 1980s pricing - a couple of hundred hundred quid - and it got rejected.
  8. The website is a bit clunky. Here are the four chapters: https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-the-extremely-long-and-incredibly-complex-story-of-marvelman-introduction/ https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-part-1-from-the-start-of-superman-to-the-end-of-captain-marvel/ https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-part-2-marvelman-rises/ https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-part-3-marvelman-falls/
  9. I don't know this one, but there's a great article based on the book Poisoned Chalice here... https://www.comicsbeat.com/poisoned-chalice-part-2-marvelman-rises/ ...which goes into some detail. I haven't read it for a while - maybe there's something in there about prints runs. If not, the author is a good starting point for @AltonKroobe to begin his search (good luck Alton. Report back if you find out).

  11. Next show this Sunday! https://londoncomicmart.co.uk/ Alas, 30th Century closed their bricks and mortar store during Covid and are now online only. I miss that place very much - easily the best selection of back issue comics, and variety, of any of the London stores if not the whole country. The only other place is the Notting Hill Comic Exchange but that is small and very hit and miss. You can get lucky, or you can feel that you wasted your time. 9 trips out of 10 will be the latter. https://mfeshops.com/ Notting Hill Comic Exchange 32 Pembridge Road, W11 3HN
  12. Lacking in finesse, on occasion, she was. A few of mine have the stacking smudges on the back too. Which is nice.
  13. OK Cat. We haven't sold out the 150 seat allocation for a while now, so there'll likely still be room near the close. 14. Two to go.... Six bloody years it's taken me to find a copy of that. And every one appears to have a UKPV unique printing gaffe on the cover...
  15. I know what you mean, but didn't do too badly, selling off the Spideys and stuff. It can be quite enjoyable, if you take your time. Which I did. I'm not sure I could be bothered now though. I'll give you a fiver for all the Charltons, Mrs Kevin Damn, I overpaid...

  17. I have a few examples of the first issue in the files with T&P stamps, but don't think I've ever seen one on the second: I would have looked for it, so the fact it is absent from the files means it may not exist. Expect an example imminently! According to Spiderfan, the TV Terror story never saw the light of day: https://spiderfan.org/item/rave/01116.html As a Spider-Man fan, this is not the missing "Next Issue" tale that I want to see. I want to see the one advertised on the last page of Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2 (November 1968). John Romita's drawing shows Spidey in a spotlight, his right arm covering the bottom half of his mask, as if recoiling in fear. The upper left corner shows the light source, the upper right shows a TV boom mike, the lower right shows a TV camera and the lower left shows a shadow that looks like a huge grasping hand. "Next Issue:", the copy blares from the top of the page, "The Mystery of the TV terror!", it finishes on the bottom. This is the missing "Next Issue" I want to see. Does it sound silly? Yes, but so what? I want to see it anyway. A half-dozen or so years back, there was word from Marvel that this long-lost tale would be printed in one of Spider-Man's annuals (implying that the artwork is still intact and in Marvel's possession) but it never saw the light of day. Thirty years from the first appearance of the blurb and we're still waiting.
  18. Cheers Albert. I've enjoyed reading everything over the last few weeks. We have a good like-minded bunch here in this thread now, I think, chatting away. That's more important than the subject matter to me. Knowing there are others out there who have a home here, sharing our interest in comics and British history. Some of you are a touch older than me and I love reading your recollections of the early days. There are things we know, things we'll discover and things we'll likely never know. But we can have a bloody good time speculating about it all, either way. I can't wait to get back to posting so do keep the pot simmering
