Make wallpaper out of it. Hideous, drekky wallpaper.

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born #1 Book Market Variant CGC 9.2

Not quite sure what brings this down to a 9.2...no visible spine issues that I can see - still has that roundedness to it. Perhaps a press can improve the grade? I don't know about such things.

    $65

Your post reminds me of the craze in coin collectors that are paying insane prices for brand new fresh from the mint so called perfect coins

Are there billion dollar movie franchises based on coins?

Just curious, but what type of GA keys are crazy hot this year, but were dumb cheap only a short year ago?  hm

As far as I know, the GA books that are currently hot right now have been hot for an extended period of time.  Not aware of any new hot GA books that have just popped up onto the scene.  (shrug)

Relatively dumb cheap. Let's take away the dumb and just call it relatively cheap.

    Per GPA:

    Black Cat Mystery #50

    Nov 2016 CGC 9.0 @ $7000

    Jan 2016 CGC 6.0 @ $1550

Will we ever be able to grab up a 9.0 for under/right around $10k? I doubt it; only three 9.0 copies on the census. $1500 seems cheap for a 6.0. To me, anyway.

    Punch Comics #12

    Dec 2015 CGC 7.0 @ $15500

Yeah, okay. Better bring $25k to even sniff a similar copy these days.

Etc etc. I'm not saying I'm right. I'm not saying you are right. I'm happy to have the conversation.

My opinion is that whoever is already invested heavily in GA is in a GOOD spot. You're correct - the GA keys have always been hot. They haven't always had several people willing to throw a ton of money at them however.

As comic book movies continue to do well a whole new generation will at least be aware of the comic book medium. Yes the world is digitizing, but vintage items can hold their value and have a certain appeal.

You think regular folks won't want a RARE piece of art in the form of a comic book?

I'm happy to have the collection I currently own. However if I had been smarter with my money, instead of chasing moderns, maybe I could be happier with my collection, and own more GA.

More difficult these days it seems. I'm gobbling up all I can.

    Or maybe I'm all wrong.

So your long game was last year?  Things really have exploded if people are lamenting not buying books at last year prices.

Yes, because my start in comic collecting was last year.

Had I not been sidetracked by modern variants I'd be in a much better position right now.

  7. I wish I knew about a year ago what I know now. My first forray into the comics world was mostly modern variants in high grade. I've made some money, lost some money. Probably broke about even when all said and done (so far hehe).

That being said, the one thing that I missed out on during that time was the OPPORTUNITY to buy in on Gold and Silver keys. Books that are crazy hot now were - relatively - dumb cheap this time last year. I know because I saw them, and passed on them.

I've sold most of the moderns I acquired over the last year. I am now a hoarder of whatever GA I can get my hands on when it fits my taste and budget. I shall be buried with it.

But man oh man, I coulda got so much more value for my dollar had I been playing the long game from the beginning. Impulsivity is a heck of a drug.

Oh yeah and I picked up a 9.8 Opena variant and the French Marvel Saga with the same cover.

These are most of my graded punisher books, minus Punisher Armory 3 in 9.8 and the ones I just bought.

The pic quality isn't very good; all are white pages, ASM 129 is 9.0, ASM 134, 135 are 9.6, Giant sized Spiderman 7 is 9.6 and all others are 9.8.  One of my favorites is the War Journal 30 manufacturing error.

As far as raw books are concerned I have limited series 1-5 (#1 has a head sketch and sig by Mike Zeck, plan on doing all five the same way), vol 2 1-104, War Journal 1-80, War Zone 1-41, Annuals 1-8, Punisher Magazine 1-15, Armory 1-10, Assasins Guild graphic novel, and a bunch of one shots and his appearances in The 'Nam.

I have multiple copies of the last issues of vol 2 and war journal cause I'm trying to get those in 9.8.  It's gonna be a long road.  But I'm doing ok so far.

For him to say that someones else's comic book pricing is highly suspect is laughable at best.

    It's posturing on his part.

In order for him to justify those outlandish prices he HAS to maintain that their valuations are incorrect.

Never bought from mile high. Never will.

l -- was this specified as GA only?)

I think it was implied, cuz of gold section.

However...I think it's important to gauge what is important to collectors overall, across all ages of comics. AF15 is a BEAST right now. I coulda easily got in last year. It's a little late now.

What will it take for horror books to make the list? I see Americans becoming more and more interested in horror & suspense cinema over the next decade or so.

Horror movies will become the new Superhero genre, with muti-million dollar budgets and big directors. Not slasher flicks either...complex characters and deep storylines. What big time movie makers have made a horror film? Has Scorcese? Speilberg? No. Someone will one day.

Horror is still a niche market.

When will horror books begin selling for $20,000+? I see it happening...
