  1. Would it not be easier and faster if they just open up the pick your grade and pay for it arrangement to everyone, then ditched the graders and brought in a few more slab-ers ?
  2. That photo-cover is probably the image of Swamp Thing I remember best from my childhood.
  3. For the person in question, IMHO no pronouns should be used going forward. The only reference to that person should be D****** Bag aka DeeeeeeeeeeeBaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggg as it is the only accurate representation. After all D-BAG is as D-BAG does.
  4. Stuff I love I rarely watch twice. I could not fathom watching something again I never like in the first place. I do hope to have time in the next day or 2 to catch Episode 2. It usually takes me 8-12 weeks to complete a 10 episode series. Time is a luxury...
  5. IMHO a borderline 9.8 - perfect except for the top of the cover between the A and M where there is a non color breaking indention I do not like.. I've submitted nicer books that have only received 9.6 and i'm very strict. I do realize CGC grading standards and my own differ, this is why I try to avoid buying a book unless its in person. It's a low census pop final issue and its close enough so moving on. @jdandns thanks again for posting your #84, it brought back some forgotten memories of my youth.
  6. For more apples to apples compare a Buckler Hulk strip to a Buckler Hulk Page. Or a Romita Spider-man strip to Romiat ASM page - although Burkey having cornered the market on the first year strips does skew things I've been collecting comic book art since the end of the 1990's, while i wish I had picked up some Peanuts while it was "affordable" strip art on the whole is dwarfed by comic book art. Outliers of course exist; Peanuts or Frazatta or a Legitimate Calvin&Hobbies are some examples. Most collectors want a strip that matches their birthday and are satisfied with that. If you are strip collector rejoice you still have a hobby that for the most part can be fun.
  7. Whatever 10-15 years above current market price they give you, if you say yes you'll take it, they will then tell you they "made an error" and raise the cost. They gets more enjoyment from them mind games than they do from making sales. P.S. Something looks "off" about those stats. Bottom line be very very careful dealing with them. I had 4 attempted past cash deals (all prior to 2012) with them, only 2 of which of them actually came to fruition. It's simply not worth it, with their greasy sleazy sales tactics, mental mind games, outright non-truths, and nasty attitude followed by multi-weeks long wait for them to ship. I now consider any art they possess the same as if it no longer exists and I'm far from alone in that school of thought.
  8. Gaiman was "politically correct" likley before the term was even coined. He's he's doing as he's always done. Gaiman created the characters, he has every right to alter them as he pleases. Or at least to the extent DC/TWD permits. I respect his creative choices for HIS Characters - regardless of TWD officially owning them Here is something to ruminate on; As 2020 59.76% of the human population on earth was Asian. That is significantly more than the majority of people alive, yet there are ZERO Asians in the cast of Sandman. Perhaps Gaiman is not as "politically correct" as people think....?
  9. I quit sending books to CGC last Nov. Since I have not and do not sell comics I decided why wait 8-15 months to get them back and why let CGC damage more of my books. I have, make that HAD 7 magazine* sized boxes full of books I triaged and were waiting for submittal; 20% Silver/40% Bronze/40% Copper - 292 books to be precise that I would have sent 25-50 each month from Nov 2021 - July 2023, not that Blackrock/CGC could care less. Will I ever submit those books? I do not know. My guess is as long as Blackrock owns them Q/C dept will not be re-instated or be staffed to actually do proper work AND CGC if continues to sell grades I will not send them any more of my books to manhandle. To think just a few years ago i used to "champion" CGC, man was i naive. A metaphorical double bird flip to the parent company of CGC for what they have done. *= I use Silver/Gold Mylars and magazine boxes work nicely with my custom soft food inserts on the sides. No pics as I now have those 7 boxes formally designated for CGC submission nicely stored away. Next time I have them out I take pics, assuming CGC has not deleted this thread by then.
  10. I've seen only the first episode so far as I rarely have more than 60-90 contiguous minutes to watch anything. I did like it, but yea the aspect ratio is a head scratching choice. The lead is OK, and I get it in the comic Dream had little personality, so they cast an actor who has none. I give the first episode a B. Same as I give score of the #1 issue of comic. You have to start somewhere it's just a means to set up what comes after.
  11. Agreed - however one needs to factor in approx price of the book in 6-12 months after its sent in. Due to the books super huge census pop in 9.6 and below what will be the new normal? Any bump when the show hits streaming if there even is a bump will be fleeting. All time there are only a small handful of book with higher census populations. The number of 9.8/9.6/9.4 and 9.2's are staggering and there may be another 1200-2400 or more in 9.6 and lower grades currently queued up at CGC - I base that on how much the census pop has increased in the last 18 months. Census Pop as of Aug 09, 2022 Books CGC Label CGC Total Avg. Grade 10 9.9 9.8 9.6 9.4 9.2 9.0 8.5 8.0 7.5 7.0 6.5 6.0 5.5 5.0 4.5 4.0 3.5 3.0 2.5 2.0 1.8 1.5 1.0 0.5 1. 12. The ?'s you need to ask yourself; is it worth the money to receive a bump to the next highest grade or no grade bump at all. My opinion on this Savage She-Hulk 1; unless it will hit a 9.8 after a press then I'd "let it go" and use the money on greener (pun intended) prospects . Price on this book in all grades is sinking like stone that's been dropped in the ocean on 9.6's and lower the stone has an anchor attached.
  13. A quality 3rd party presser is likley best option. The question you need to ask yourself is possibly bumping up 8.5, 9.0 & 9.0 to 9.0,9.2,9.2 worth it on the books? Then ask what if one or more does not get a bump up, is it worth it? Then ask yourself is it better to allocate the funds for pressing and re-grading on something else? As for myself I try never to throw good money after bad and "let it go"
  14. All I know is every 1980's Mirage Turtles book I had graded last year now sells for nearly 1/2 what they did in April-May 2022 time frame. Admittedly stuff I submitted was not the cream of the crop. With them sinking like a stone sure glad I don't sell comics. 1 - 3rd 9.6w, 4th 9.6w 5,6,7 CGC 9.8w Donatello 1 CCC 9.8w All were my original when new LCS purchases. Only sent in for nostalgia's sake and #5 is my favorite Turtles cover
  15. They do but in legalese. One of the firms you mentioned is the very devil. Take a firm that for a decade criminally manipulated Precious Metal markets then was caught with hand in cookie jar. They made 10's of Billions, paid what to them is small amount in fines, 920 Million, and threw those they knew for years were doing the deeds on their behalf to the wolves. Simply paying 920 Million in fines but reaping over 10 BILLION in profit over a decade seems like a pretty good deal! All WBD has to do regardless of the deeeebaggggg's crimes, is to state; buh buh buh "The film tested well", and all will be forgiven by law enforcement. Folks while that is tongue-in-cheek it is also sadly far closer to the truth than should be comfortable for any of us.
  16. Very Sadly, In the USA, Large Corporation's like WBD are above the law
  17. Not saying it's impossible but I'd place the odds as being nearly as low as; all two hundred thousand million million million million billion trillion atoms making up the planet Earth suddenly, simultaneously and spontaneously cease to exist.
  18. Perhaps Warner/Disc needs to crunch numbers and estimate how many people are going to pay to see the film that "stars" that deeeeebaggggg. And just how on earth are they going to market the film with dislike, perhaps even hatred of the lead growing exponentially each day....? Flash has been a favorite of mine for decades, but at this juncture even if WBD payed me I would not watch the film unless they CGI in Grant Gustin. If WBD did that I would gladly pay double admission.
  19. @jdandns thanks for posting #84, it brought back some forgotten memories of my youth. I recall when the book was originally on-sale my local shop had only 5 pieces when I got there. All were in horrid shape. I asked how many had sold as I arrived a few hours later than usual that day, and was told "Zero, book has not sold in years" . I had dropped the book myself years earlier, but wanted the final issue. I checked my backup LCS they too only had 3 or 4 copies and all were mid grade at best, so I gave up. Forgot about the book pretty much until your post. Found one recently and as much as prefer to purchase in person viewing a book first, I gave in a purchased via private auction. If it makes my grade as best I can determine by viewing it through slab I'll post it here. If not I'll probably just sulk in silence...
  20. Stan Lee Signed 9.8w Newsstand ASM300's are for the most discriminating of collectors, not for rabble like myself. IMHO the point of this thread is Direct Sale ASM300's with particular attention to grades below 9.6. Folks who purchased those at bubble highs are seeing big negative ROI's which may only be tip of iceberg. Although certainly not as bad as for those who picked up Eternals #1 at pre-bubble pop prices . Rule of don't buy a book when hot and never ever when red-hot applies.
  21. For a corporation like Blackrock the ONLY thing matters is their bottom line. Make of that what you will
  22. Likely not a one off! Integrity is worthless to Exec's who seek to pad them bonus' before they skedaddle to other firms after the Magical 18-24 months be up.
  23. What about "gocollect" . I read there just yesterday that Eternals 1 - yes Eternals 1 which has sunk like an anchor is undervalued. Link Translation: The writer is stuck with many paid for at or near bubble high copies and wants to relive their salad days by ripping off the same pigeons yet again. The thought process is probably something like this; hmm I paid $2100 last year for a Eternal 1 9.8 and now it's down to $695. If I buy at the dead cat bounce price of $900 surely I cant lose again! We'll Rube/Sucker/Moe Ron, you can lose again, as the population of the book increases and it drops down to $550 then $400 then maybe $250. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" , I feel zero sympathy for those unable to learn that old and very simple lesson. After gocollect "writers" sucker them twice, the rubes will then get to whine "Buh Buh Buh gocollect said" right before making the same mistake yet again
