  1. You just had a shot at one on Thursday!
  2. Another rough result from the Comiclink auction. 72% loss in six months.
  3. The Garfield cabal is forming right before our eyes!
  4. The ComicConnect auction that starts next week. https://www.comicconnect.com/item/1030968?tzf=1
  5. I thought the 3 Bagley Spider-Man pages on Sunday were cheap given how expensive his Spidey art has gotten. On the other hand, this Superboy cover selling for $40k is absolutely insane. I realize there are some crazy Legion collectors out there, but even $10k for this seems like too much.
  6. That’s impossible! You can clearly see the MSRP is $2,000.
  7. This one came back to Heritage again. I’m guessing the next step is back to Dueling Dealers for $6k?
  8. As I watched the impressive prices that Dave Mandel’s art was selling for, I kept thinking back to Felix’s podcast where Dave ended the description of each piece by saying “I’ve got ten of these, and this is the worst one.”
  9. Wow, $102k for the Quesada Daredevil cover. At this rate, Mandel is going to have enough money for another X-Wing by the end of the auction.
  10. It was briefly up for sale in the CAF classifieds for $2,750 a few months ago. I don’t know if the seller took it down and sent it to Heritage or if it’s going to be a really profitable flip for someone.
  11. The older DC art did poorly. The Justice League 29 splash sold for $50,400 in the Jan 2021 Heritage auction vs. $36k today. The Hawkman 3 cover and Brave and the Bold 35 splash each sold for $36k in the November 2019 auction vs. $36k and $28,800 today. Hawkman is definitely on the wrong side of the generational shift.
  12. Does it count as a flip if Anthony takes something off his own website and marks it up another 90% for Dueling Dealers?
  13. This Dodson Justice League cover was in the CAF classifieds for $1,750. It was then sold/traded to Anthony who listed it for $4,500. Sold last night for $1,302.
  14. Yes, it sold for $2.6M at Comicconnect in Dec ‘21. The All Star 8 sold for $1.6M at Heritage in June ‘22.
  15. The few times I’ve gone well above my normal price range I’ve found that my enjoyment of the art doesn’t increase in proportion to the cost. It would be tough for me to find a piece I would enjoy more than five smaller pieces for the same price.
  16. The published cover matches the art Dino sold. It looks like the Heritage piece is the original and the other was created from stats to change the position of the rocket and the Huntress image and then some of the background was redrawn.
  17. Yeah, most of the dealers don’t have much overhead so even a large drop in volume won’t trigger a fire sale, but I wonder if they continue to bid as actively in auctions. If they do, they could end up with more inventory they can’t sell. If they don’t, auctions end lower and it further widens the enormous gap between auction prices and dealer prices.
  18. I didn’t realize how far off we were from 2022 levels until I did the math. Here’s the total value of art sold at Heritage signature auctions for each of the last 3 years: 2021: $31.7M 2022: $61.9M 2023: $38.2M They’re 38% down from ‘22, and if you exclude the sale of Frazetta’s Dark Kingdom in the June 2023 auction, they’re down 48%. Obviously we haven’t seen that kind of decline in prices. The quality of art in these auctions is nowhere close to what it was last year when some crazy prices drew out a lot of incredible art. Now consignors are expecting the same crazy prices, dealers have priced their inventory above ‘22 levels, and buyers aren’t interested at those prices. It seems like buyers and sellers are now in a staring contest, waiting for the other to blink.
  19. I think it’s a lack of interesting art in today’s session. Heritage really padded out this auction with a lot of low-end art and they were still 150 lots short of what they had in last November’s auction. Sellers seem to be holding out and hoping for a stronger market to sell in.
  20. Same painting sold at Heritage in 2010 for $89,625
  21. That’s one of the Bro’s, so you should expect a markup of at least 10X.
  22. Following up on this since it just sold at Heritage. Nice pricing job by the original seller. Not so much by the later dealer or consignor.
  23. The Carl Barks painting sold for 25% less than it did at Heritage in Feb 2019
