That happened on CLink with a Cap 38 that got bumped because there was a higher-grade copy in the same auction. I was going to bid on the lower-grade copy, which was an 8.5. I had already targeted it and was planning to be "all in." I was irritated enough about it being bumped to the next auction that when it did come up, I put in a low-ball bid that didn't even end up being the underbid. It sold for $8,000, which was less than my original estimate—certainly less than what my snipe bid would have been. I never had the slightest interest in the higher-graded copy, which I thought was overgraded. Instead of going after the Cap 38, I picked up this Pep 14, which was under $5,000, in the same CLink auction that the Cap 38 ended up in. It worked out well for me in the end because if I had bought the Cap 38 instead of the Pep 14, then I would not have had the funds to go after the Catman #14 that I bought in Metro's Ruben Blades auction, which was my best pickup of the year. For anyone who's still awake after that diatribe, the point is that listing a book and then pulling it can backfire on the consignor.

Newly graded or newly re-graded? Grading is so soft now that an 8.5 graded now could have been a 6.5 in 2019 even without pressing. Sellers who are paying attention must be highly motivated to crack out and resubmit their books. (I haven't looked at those particular books.)

It probably takes some effort to get a scan to match the book. When I scan a book myself, the colors often look very dark compared to the actual book. I really only buy GA (if you call that a focus). Every once in a while I'll buy an SA (or newer) book if I like the cover. One reason that I don't buy newer books is that I think just about everything newer than GA is in a massive bubble right now, especially late SA and newer books. (Late 50s books may not be because many of those are about as scarce as many GA books.) Within GA, I'm about as unfocused as a person can get. I've never had much interest in building a run because that would mean spending a lot of money on covers that I don't like. I like some genres and titles better than others, but I'd rather have a sampling of everything. Right now I'm trying to pick up one cover by every GA cover artist whose work isn't already part of my collection. That will mean buying some books with covers that I'm not crazy about, but I don't plan to spend much on any one book unless it's one that I especially like. I see this current endeavor as a fun way to educate myself (and I have a long, long way to go).

I'd be curious to see how it differs from this one, which I've been using for many years.
