  1. If the book had come back as a trimmed 9.0 would there have still been grounds to cancel the sale because it was “really” a trimmed 8.0? Does the result change if it were color touch and not trimming? Press and not color touch? If someone sends a trimmed unverified book for signature verification and it returns untrimmed but verified do they have to disclose that or fear third party meddling in future sales? What if it returns unverified but trimmed, can they crack and send for back for a label that does not pass judgment on sigs? High grade high dollar books is not a sandbox I play in so most likely all of these have been beaten to death. But when a $120k transaction is cancelled contrary to the stated terms of the selling website then the ground rules are worth considering.
  2. Maybe I am misreading GPA or do not understand the 2017 8.0 sale shown on the CLink page, but it looks like this book sold at a substantial discount relative to other recent CGC blue-label books of comparable grade. Maybe some level of grading/trimming uncertainty was already included (even if unintentionally) in the final price. I am not suggesting that would make the situation any better for an unaware buyer, but perhaps someone was willing to pay a premium for a chance that the book was not trimmed (or to save some money on a book of questionable grade). Only one person who can tell us that though.
  3. When I was looking for a relatively inexpensive AF15 recently I was convinced that the new premium for Lee SS was dragging up the prices of unsigned copies too. With all of the Lee signature books going for really high premiums the supply of copies of any grade in my price range (and that of other value buyers) seemed a lot smaller than it used to be. My money for this year is on FF1. When I thought I would never find an AF15, FF1 was the only other Marvel book that I could convince myself would come close to scratching that itch, and I would not be surprised if others feel the same.
  4. I dont know the actual answer but recently looked into this myself for my copy. If you go to the mycomicshop page and select AF 15 you will see a link to other comics published that same month. Maybe make a list and look at some at conventions where you can crack them open if you get no answer here. I bought a Patsy Walker from that month to see if it had the same cover. It did not have the correct inside cover. I think rawhide kid seemed the next least expensive marvel. It seemedmore likely to have the same cover inside and out but I have decided to leave mine alone because most of the back is there.
  5. I do not own many romance books but could not leave this at the HPB when I saw it a few years ago. Oddly it came with two detached front covers but no actual comic.
  6. I am so glad to finally join this club. I lost a few auctions and had a number of “best offers” in my budget range declined so when I saw this one I jumped on it. Considering the grade I think that I really lucked out on eye appeal. It is a trimmed CGC 1.0 with a clipped back cover coupon, cover attached with tape, and an unverified signature. The vertical lines in the top photo are reflections from my shirt.
  7. I am sensing an early theme. Maybe I will put that money into more comics instead. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
  8. I just joined the AF15 club with this trimmed 1.0. The cover is attached with tape on the interior, and the back cover has a clipped coupon. Otherwise (and I know that is a big “otherwise”) I think it is a nice looking book. I plan to keep it. (Those vertical lines you see on the cover are a reflection of my shirt. The cover is very clean.) CGC show no resto, just the trim bottom and right. Since the book will always get a PLOD (no way to fix the trim after all) I am considering making it the best purple it can be. My primary goal is to have the tape removed and the cover reattached with staples. It seems like it would increase maybe to a 2.0 or better if I had the tape removed, staples replaced, and piece added. (I would keep the name written in marker....) Maybe have the pencil in the M removed and a piece replaced on the speech bubble near the spine. I don’t want it to look synthetic but don’t mind sprucing it up especially if I have the tape removed. Is a 2.0 a reasonable expectation? Any advice? Should I just leave it alone, or is there a chance the tape stain would eventually leak through? Would I need a donor book to have the coupon and staples replaced? (I actually bought a Patsy Walker with the same back cover in case I went this direction. Too bad the inside of that book is women’s weight loss and not men’s weight loss like the AF. Whoops.) I do not like the idea of killing a perfectly good donor book but for this I may make an exception. Thanks in advance. I have wanted this book my entire life and am happy to finally be in the game.
