  1. Don’t be sad, I’m still here...
  2. Thank god this isn’t a weight loss program.
  3. Thank you for your warm welcome, constructive criticism and detailed attention of beating that horse to that bloody pulp... Once again, I get it and I’m working on it.
  4. I’m leaning that quickly. A true trial by fire.
  5. 100% agree, but I’m looking for more than a “customer base”. The art of the handshake and “real” shop talk is disappearing, that’s what’s at stake here as well. I’m trying to establish a new (starting from scratch) trading, selling and buying base. I just think people forget what it’s like to start something new, I’m sure that they didn’t come out of the womb walking (though I’m sure some people think they did). I think you can agree I’ve been as respectful and authentic as possible, just seem people just have their guard up so high they forget why they are on here; the purpose of the forums. I just think more people get more pleasure out of bashing and forget we are all here for the same thing, the love of the hobby. Don’t get me wrong, I love poking the thinned skinned person just as much as everyone else but, there is a time and place. Especially, when someone is looking for guidance. The best thing is, I wouldn’t be surprised if I met most of the people in this thread and we’ve probably traded, sold or purchased books from each other when shop talk and hand shakes were still around. I appreciate your insight.
  6. Man, there are still good things left in the world. Again, It’s been tough for everyone. If you can help me, awesome, if not, just move on to the next post. I just tried my first sell listing here on the “selling section” last night and with a little trial, error and help with the “constructive comments” and tools suggested by people on here, I did it (thank you @hollywood1892, @comics4all, @adamantium, @miraclemet). I do have an idea of what some books are worth but, I have quite a few that I do not. As you know, SS books and books that are limited in the market do not come up as often on eBay, this makes it very hard to gauge value. It’s interesting, the person who suggested that I start getting more established on the forums warned me of people that just are not conducive or constructive to the collecting/trading community. It’s amazing how accurate they were. It’s also amazing how people are so quick to judge and make these non-constructive comments on people who have PHYSICALLY established themselves in the comic community by going to cons and different shops through out the US, not by making inappropriate comments on an online forum. Times have changed, I don’t like it as much as the next person but lets be constructive to the people that are trying new things to keep their interests and memories as they were or better.
  7. (SOLD) For sale (3) Wolverine 1’s SS’s. $500 for all. Usual forum rules, PayPal payment, no returns. Shipping $27 (fedex insured to 48 states). All CGC numbers are in sequence and two of them are UPC covers. You can pick up in Philadelphia if need be. I would be happy to provide additional photos if needed. Please see the labels for more information. If you need my eBay handle for feedback reference let me know; 100’s all positive.
  8. @Comics4All I didn’t know You worked for eBay, does CGC let representatives on the forums? Lol
  9. The shop is in the background of that picture. The second floor, next to the banister is where the crime was committed. Lol I actually think the shop was sold not too long after that newspaper article was published. It was named “Acres of Books”.
  10. Trust me, try not and think about it. I’ve lost enough sleep over it for the both of us. Lol I will tell you a lot of them had the tops of the front cover cut off and a lot of them weren’t in the best shape if that makes you feel any better. On a lighter note: I’m not a Superman or Batman collector but I will forever keep the ones pictured because of the cool memories that I have associated with them with my father.
  11. Appreciate that! Thank you!
  12. Thank you. I appreciate that more than you think. We are good. Cool little story... So the book store we owned was in the “Commons” in Trenton, NJ. My grandfather was a pretty eccentric character. He collected all types of interesting things; stamps, paintings and old bibles/books (from 1500-1800’s). Somethings we have kept in the family other items we have donated. One of the craziest things that I remember as a kid was we had some books made out of human vellum, which I think my father donated to either The Rosenbach or the Mutter in Philadelphia. In a weird way, I wish we would have kept some of those but I‘m pretty sure they needed a certain type of care we couldn’t provide. That and I don’t think it would have went well with my wife if she knew what they were made of.
  13. I better make more coffee.
  14. That makes perfect sense. Kinda would protect both parties. It really is a shame that this whole hobby is now pretty much online. “Established” shops that have been around forever are closing and the in house shop talk is gone. Appreciate the Comment.
  15. No worries, I get why people do it now. And now, I know what “CG” stands for. Isn’t there an Admin that can just move my post?
  16. Excellent! Exactly the constructive reply I needed! I appreciate this!
  17. I appreciate your reply. Reading some of these comments, I remember why I’ve been a member for a VERY long time and NEVER participated in posting in the forums (check my handle). We ALL have comics that are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, personally I feel this is what establishes the “value”. I’ve had people pay more for books that I thought were worth less and vise versa, and I have paid more for books that I thought were worth less and vise versa. We all know times have changed. Now that thing that I find most enjoyable; communicating with other retailers/collectors “face to face” about the books that I enjoy is gone. Shows are no longer happening, stores are closed and now people are shutting down. I am tired of listing books or trying to open a line of communication and just getting keyboard warriors flex in return. People are quick to judge and not do research before working on emotion anymore. NOT saying you’re doing that but I seem to be getting a bit of backlash on the thread. I have purchased books online In the past and recently have tried to sell with the only thing keeping the new owner from acquiring the book is the massive amount of fees that I would have to pay. Just like I posted, I’m asking for guidance and direction to establish “value” or find a forum/platform that is more based on collectors that tired of paying ridiculous fees that keep the the book from the possibility of changing hands. Again, I appreciate your comment and your positive direction is appreciated.
  18. Not sure what that means. I’m thinking you’re saying I created this post in a wrong location?
  19. Thank you! I’ll look into those platforms!
  20. First post so please be respectful as I will do my best to apply by the rules accordingly. Background: My family owned a book store in Trenton, NJ back in the 50’s. When I was a kid and visited my grandmother at the store I would run upstairs and go right to the stacks of comics (I remember them coming up to my chest as a kid; yes, 1000’s of them) and grabbing as many as I could to bring home for light reading and the proper care they deserved. The store eventually closed down in the 80’s, and I was “only” able to remove a little less of only one stack of comics overall and a couple of books of stamps. I remember clearly, pretty much everything in the store besides some personal items were thrown in a dumpster. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I can remember. I always wondered what could have happened if I was able to get ALL the comics out, what treasures would I have had and still had. Then I step back and count my blessings for the books I did save, still have and enjoy. Over the years I have sold (very rarely), traded and bought books to reinforce my collection. Personally, right now Im looking to overall lower the amount of books in my collection and replace them with the higher grade keys I always loved. So where I’m at: I’m getting tired of all the “fees” and games people play on online auction sites (personally I have 100% positive and hundreds of feedback to my handle) and I recently met someone on another venture that suggested I reach out and ask for help on the forums I want to correctly price the books I’m interested in selling accordingly not to waste anyone’s time, mine or the new owners’. I’m not the most tech savvy person so any suggestions of direction is welcomed. I’ve enclosed a few books that I “saved” as well as new ones I’ve acquired over the years.
