  1. My suggestion didn't go anywhere. And there was indifference in this thread. So, we will keep the status quo
  2. Congrats, man! Sweet book. It was nice to meet you at the show (thumbs u
  3. I've asked Arch to pin a one-post, locked thread at the top of all the sales subforums that has an updated Probation List in it. The list would be updated regularly by a volunteer, who submits the info to a moderator (or Arch), who would then make the necessary edit in the thread's sole post. I think having this at the top of each subforum would be a benefit to the community at large. If you agree with me, then maybe send a pm to Arch to see if this is something he's comfortable with doing. If you don't, then don't do anything
  4. Just got this via best offer on eBay. Nicest copy I've been able to find in a long, long time;
  5. I like how the Kents are just hanging out on a barge, under the bridge...in their Sunday best.
  6. yeah but he's got THE BEST COPY. true, it's common as ants, and even truer that one day it's inevitable that another 10 will appear and be sold for probably 40% of this one's hammer price, but dammit HE'S GOT HIM THE BESTEST COPY! i bet he puts it on his CV. right under "achievements."
  7. Ah, the old "I was gonna, but now I'm not gonna" negotiating tactic. Who the hell does this work on? Like you would immediately respond with "OH MY GOD NO WAY DUDE I DID NOT KNOW THAT WELL PLEASE ACCEPT MY HUMBLEST MOST SINCERE APOLOGIES KIND SAHIB I AM NOT WORTHY TO DRINK THE SWEAT OF YOUR LOINS OH GREAT ONE"
  8. Well, mess. I was going to post a blistering condemnation of this entire topic and the participants, but LB just went and sucked all the life out of it. Glad to see it.
  9. Even with DC's penchant for over exposition on the SA covers, I have no idea what's going on! Just read it...a scientist hid secret plans in his library books, but he was killed and the books were returned to the library. The gorilla (who's really an alien) was trying to steal the plans, which as luck would have it were for a machine that would change gorillas to humans (or in his case alien gorillas to alien humans), which would allow him to fit into human society, spy on us, and eventually learn how to take over the world. This story was not DC's finest hour. In fact, the story abruptly ends two panels later when the gorilla (alien) simply drives his car off a cliff and dies. It's like the writer got halfway through this convoluted story and noticed that he had no idea where he was going with it and he decided to call it a day. It's probably closer to something like "DC's EIC had a policy of having cover artists come up with a hook for the cover, then handing said design over to a writer, who had to figure out how to tell a story from the cover concept - and in this case failing to do so" I would think
  10. i'm guessing NCB's on the back cover, or something on the inside, like a significant tear or tanning
  11. i just think SurferLady is personalising a generalisation. just like a woman.
  12. Great looking book. I was very tempted myself. Keep us updated if you send it in for grading, I'm curious. It's definitely at least an 8.5!
  13. i'd be complimentary, but since you can't be arsed to even take them out of the freaking bags for the love of Ernst Gerber, i'm going to hold off for now
  14. yeah, this should take you about a week, Silver. good luck
  15. i would think the last thing this board needs to be worried about is someone trying to buy or sell books without being aware of their Probation List status. they'll get a reminder in due time. it's the beauty of a self-policed environment; generally the community will watch out for itself in degrees
  16. it's a Qualified grade. the book is graded as though the flaw isn't there. the real question is, what's the real grade of the book?
  17. I'd stop grinning, since a lot of people also thought the 30-day waiting period was unworkable for buyers, and I don't think anyone wanted an immediate lynching, but maybe something more like 10 days. After all, the only reason it's 30 days is to give the items time to be shipped and received. Actually, I'm all for lowering both to 10 days (US) 15 days (CA) 20 days (Int) hell, let's make it so. joe had a good point about the nature of the 30 day thing. i would think 30 days would be a good amount of time for someone to wait on books that have been sent to make sure they arrive before there is a tar and feathering but for people who have committed to buy and not followed through, a week and a half is plenty
  18. scripts used on sets are generally shooting scripts, which differ from normal "reading" scripts, and usually actors will only get pages they are shooting that particular day, rather than the whole thing at once. fyi Cool info thanks! I wasn't trying to sound like an expert or anything...just limited knowledge on what I've grabbed over the years. I have no interest in buying anymore. yah, not an expert either, just adding to the knowledge pool in my own small way
  19. scripts used on sets are generally shooting scripts, which differ from normal "reading" scripts, and usually actors will only get pages they are shooting that particular day, rather than the whole thing at once. fyi
  20. jesus, man, i told you i would delete it without reading it. think of the time you wasted
  21. well, Whisp, here's the thing; nobody cares. you took a bad situation, an unfair situation, and made it completely about you by acting in a juvenile and completely inappropriate manner. i didn't give two rat poops about you before the "incident." did not know you, did not care about you in one way or the other. it was your choice to say what you did, to act in the way you did, and so now i care. now i don't like you. now i'm getting involved. two wrongs don't make a right. you could have chosen the high road, dealt with the fact that the boards can be harsh and unfair, and stayed or not stayed. but you didn't. you took the lowest road possible, and now most of the boards can't stand you and don't give a damn about your side of the story. that was 100% you. your continued deflection about how it was someone's else's fault for your own scummy actions is a nice view into how you work. and now, i'm done too
  22. i honestly wonder if you have the capability to function on an Internet message board. i really do. if you could learn - just once - to ignore when someone mentions you in a negative way, you would do yourself a huge favour. and please, don't pm me again trying to give your side of the story. i'm just going to delete it without reading it. i don't care about your side. i don't care why you post what you do. i just wish you would stop it
