@PeasOfCrap Not the one I lost (that had editor notes in it, but honestly, I didn't know I had it. I was going threw some boxes of stuff to clean out (throw away) and found a couple that were sold at the comic shops and serially numbered. I remembered buying them once I found them. I used to be a manager of a toy store across the street from one of the NEC stores and would go there on my lunch break. The guy at the store (who still works there) gave me one of the first Tick comics for free (the #1 special edition) just to see if I would like the comic. That was actually all they had produced at the time so it actually didn't seem special or like a big deal. Who knew what was in store for the Tick over the next 35 years. One thing to note on the back cover is that Tick is facing away from the camera. When the finally published the comic book Tick is facing the camera.

It's definitely mislabeled. CGC has relabeled items for me for free (that I had CGCd) that had been mislabeled. It won't mess up a personal collection as anyone can clearly see what comic book it actually is... BUT if someone is using the CGC registry to track their comics it will show up as the wrong comic. So, while it will not change the value of the comic, it will change how it is able to be tracked.

It's really hard to collect a comic series when they haven't released a comic in almost two years. :-(

My apologies. I wasn't trying to be rude. I was just trying to point out that prices are all over the place. It's only my opinion that the current market doesn't seem to support a $45,000 Tick comic. I actually wrote to the seller wishing him good luck with his sale. If he gets his asking price (or a good offer) it's good for all of us in that in means our collections are increasing in value. Again, I'm sorry that I offended anyone. I will try to word future posts more kindly / carefully.

For Tick comic values on eBay defiantly don't go by the asking/listing price. Go by the SOLD price. I've seen guys LISTING #2 uncut CGC 9.4 for $45,000! (at the time of this note it's been "reduced" to 19,000) I've also SEEN the same with a CGC 9.8 SELL for $2,000. Both prices within a year of each other. I may be way off - but I'm pretty sure the comic didn't go up in value by $43,000 plus for a lower grade. I've been actively tracking Tick comics for about 4-5 years now. I'm still surprised at some of the low listing prices I see on eBay as well as some of the high asking prices. Just keep your eyes peeled and wait. I also occasionally will post places that I'm willing to pay cash for high grade (CGC graded only) Tick comics if the prices are fair (market value) AND if it is an upgrade to a comic already in my collection. I'm not really into buying/trading for profit (or loss). I'm just trying to build the best Tick comic collection I can. I don't buy what I don't need. I'm not looking for duplicates of rare comics. Just one of each comic. I'm only missing two that I know about ...and I know who owns one of them. (cough cough VSNDesigns cough cough). But we're good friends and help each other with out with our collections so it's all good and fun. :-) I think half the fun is the hunt. It is NOT a retail site nor does it even give values to the comics - it' just a complete list with notes. (I try to work closely with New England Comics to keep it as accurate as possible)

NEC didn't create a comic book for FCBD this year :-( ...Or if they did, it hasn't been released as of yet. But since someone posted the photo of the would-be comic book... this image might be of interest to some of you.

Well, I used to be a web programmer back when the dot com era was still growing. The plus side: I hand code all my websites from scratch so I have total control over them. The not-so-plus side... my sites look awesome... for the mid 1990s. Turns out, a few other people like the Tick as much as me and appreciate it so I try to keep it up. And NEC seem to like it :-)

@Dr. DankYou're welcome. The site originally started out to be a personal check list of what I had. As I was getting more serious with my collection I found myself buying stuff I already had. So I made the site to track my collection so that no matter where I was I could check to see if I had a certain comic. I spent about a year and a half on it before it got noticed by NEC. Then it sort of morphed into what it is today. They have been kind enough to provide some of the tidbits of information on the comics (...when they can remember them. Seriously, I wouldn't remember much about what I did 30 years ago either) But I am very grateful for their assistance. They have always been very kind to me. The TickComics.com site is now up to date (as of today). I was missing some of the 2019 comic cons and any 2020 comics.

I'm in the process of updating TickComics.com I'm about a year and a half behind, but hope to have it up to date within a few days. I got busy last year... We adopted two sisters. (ages 8 and 10) The 10 year old has already read the original Edlund Tick comics and commonly makes references to some of the jokes/lines she's read. :-) Just doing my best to pass on the interest to the next generation.

"Ashcan" editions were originally photocopies of the comic book used during the editing phase of creating a comic book. When you were done with them, they where thrown in the trash, or ashcan. I'm not sure when they became collectible but at some point New England Comics saw a value in them and "printed" (photocopied) some of them and sold them. They only did this for a very few of their issues. On the first two issues of The Tick, back in 1988, NEC also made some and sent them out (pre-production) to distributors to send to other comic book shops to determine if there was a marked for the comic or not. I have one of these (I may have two ...now that I have kids I am a little less organized). If you're interested in the Tick and his line of comics I have a website that is up to date as of last summer. It doesn't list values or try to sell you anything. It's just a complete collection of cover photos - including any variant covers, and when possible, a little bit of information about each comic. http://www.TickComics.com

New England Comics still has them listed on their website for $3. NewEglandComics.com - go to the Tick catalog site a search through those pages. (not a super user friendly design, but functional)

Unless they're rare, reprints don't sell for much. But I suppose anything in good condition is worth preserving. If you're saving the comics for posterity sake go ahead and get them slabbed. If you're doing it for an investment make sure you check them carefully for spine ticks (no pun intended), bent corners, white pages and stuff like that. Even on eBay right 9.8s are selling for less then they did 2 years ago. The "Amazon hype" dwindled when the show was canceled.
