  1. CGC also use the rating "Reconditioned" if there is a small piece of tape on a Golden Age comic....sometimes "Reconditioned" sometimes "Universal". I have six inconsistent ratings from them with tape on the cover used in the same way. Just put over ta tear. BTW the tape on the books is older then I am. I agree with the lowering of the rating, but it is either reconditioned or universal and it should be lowered by the same rating consistently for the same condition Of course the only resolve with CGC is to pay for another review. Be great if they could be address this issue as it has an effect on the trust in their ratings.
  2. It states "yellow pages, tape on cover and cover detached". if the cover was detached, they detached it. However the real issue is the lowest grade for a comic which has the cover, is n tact, all the pages, pages in good shape with not complete yellowing and a rating lower than others in the same condition. I also submitted another Golden Age comic in the same condition which came back rated a "Reconditioned". Again, inconsistent. However, they are the only game in town ....as my collection continues to be rated lower as well as my values. One day, a major collector will file a suit and maybe the palying field will be leveled. PS...I did call them and they stated to pay for a revaluation. Makes no sense. The folks at Heritage are much more helpful. Thank for responding and have a great holiday season
  3. My copy of Batman #18 was graded a .5...same with my Journey into Mystery issue as well. The review stated it was yellow pages, tape on cover and cover detached. The cover is not detached though it has rusted staples. I went to an event and found a copy of Batman 18 without a cover rated 1.0 with yellowed pages and one similar to mine as a 1.5. This is the fourth time for this type of grading which has devalued my collection and a lose of faith in the CGC grading. Their remedy is to send everything in and pay to reinspect. Something is wrong and they control the market Any ideas on how to move forward as I have two hundred more comics to grade. See pic..bad shot...sorry
  4. I have submitted a number of Golden Age and Silver Age comics for grading with tape on the cover. They have received a lesser grade though the conditions varied. Also, all were graded as "Universal" except for one which was graded as a "Restoration". It was Fantastic Four number 5 and the tape on that is the same as with the others previously mentioned. No new materials were added or touched up in any way. CGC did nothing to the book as well, but rated it as a 1.5. Tape on the cover either is a restoration or not when no other materials or work was done. Anyone have this issue and what did you do? Of course they can chrge you again for another review Do they ever admit a mistake? I have about two hundred more comics to garde and what to go the right direction. Thanks
  5. I have been submitting comics a few at a time for about four years. All Gold (between 1943-1946 or Silver Age comics (1962-1965). As always, I inspected and packaged each properly (certified covers, boards, etc). All were connected to the cover and none were reconditioned (though one came back rated as reconditioned (?). Also a few were of the same year, type of condition and even continued sequential numbered issues for previously submitted books (ex Batman #18, 19, etc.). This time all 7 comics are graded up to 2 levels below the previous two years submissions. Batman 18 was rated at a .5..It has the cover attached (with some tape) no pages missing, off white pages. I have two similar condition comic previously rated over the past two years at 2.0. There are other examples, but you get my point.
  6. Just rcvd seven Golden Age comics back. Really low grading. 1943 comic with cover no major defects, all pages in tact and off white grade a .5 ?? Others stated detached cover. They were on when sent. 1.5 1963 Sgt Fury. White pages cover almost perfect. 4.0 ?? Every comic is off by 2 grade points. I have had numerous other rated and not sure what is up as these ratings are a travesty.
