  1. I'm not sure what the TVA is exactly in the MCU. But that metropolis that Loki overlooks with awe from the walkway is the world of the TVA, either way. According to the comics, the TVA exists in the Null Time Zone of the Multiverse.
  2. I'm actually getting more of a Catch Me If You Can (Tom Hanks, Leo DiCaprio) or 48 Hours (Nick Nolte, Eddie Murphy) vibe, as in the cop-criminal love-hate relationship so far. What Mobius and Loki are walking past is the world of the TVA or this world of existence outside of the normal Multiverse.
  3. That was my question too. Apparently principal photography took 7 months, which is a *long* time. Dr. Strange, for example, was only 5 months, and Guardians of the Galaxy was just over 3 months. In the article's excerpt from Ms. Chan's interview, she says "we shot it like an indie film." Perhaps she's referring to the exterior scenes. After looking at the trailer, the exteriors for sure were shot with natural light, especially with that moving camera which can't hide artificial lights. They do look they were shot at "magic hour" as you see either sunrise or sunset in many shots. However some of those interior shots in the trailer look like they would have been artificially lit. They look great with a directional "source lighting" feel (as in light comes from fire, a skylight, or other objects). You can also bump up the exposure a little in post-production depending how the film is shot. I would have a hard time believing the entire film used natural lighting from production and into post-production. Gemma Chan is just an actress on the film and isn't necessarily there in the editing and effects work phase. Or she might have been exaggerating a bit.
  4. And that's why Gemma Chan specifically said they shot Eternals like an indie film in this interview. I don't believe Ms. Chan was referring to the film's budget or marketing.
  5. An independent film is literally any film produced outside of a major Studio. Their budgets can range from several million to no budget. Martin Scorsese hasn't shot an independent film since before Mean Streets but his is still the lone (or main) artistic voice behind the camera. The Blair Witch Project was produced for less than 50k but was picked up by a major distributor and was released in every movie chain across the country. There are no rules to moviemaking really. To shoot the majority of a major Studio blockbuster film with all natural light on location is unheard of. One would definitely call that "indie style," even though most indie filmmakers use artificial lighting. It's difficult to successfully shoot a feature film with all natural light. Terence Malick shot Tree of Life with mostly natural light for spiritual and aesthetic reasons. Malick is a heavy influence on Chloe Zhao so it makes sense for her to shoot in that style, as she has with all her films. She also might have had the luxury on Eternals (as in a very big budget) of being able to shoot with natural light as weather and the hours of the day don't always work with you.
  6. Yeah I doubt there'll be a lot of mask wearers when I go see it, too. I might skip the regular true IMAX theater and instead opt for the AMC IMAX as AMC theaters have their new ventilation system and the seating isn't stacked near-vertical like at the regular IMAX.
  7. Not sure I'll go opening night, but opening weekend for sure. I like the crowd reactions. I miss that. As long as the audience is wearing masks.
  8. If it's true that Namor will debut in Wakanda Forever, it adds more "oomph" to my theory/observation that all MCU Phase Four films featuring a legacy character aren't just "team-up" movies, but also themed team-ups of that legacy character's counterparts. Black Widow will team-up the Black Widows of the past(Melina), present(Natasha), and future(Yelena Belova). No Way Home will be a team-up of the three cinematic franchise Spider-Mans (allegedly, not confirmed). Multiverse of Madness will be a team-up of Marvel's wizards and sorcerers: Dr Strange, Scarlet Witch, Wong, and allegedly Clea and Jerico Drumm. Love and Thunder will be a team-up of Marvel's gods: Thor, Jane Foster Thor, Valkyrie, Zeus(confirmed to be Russell Crowe), and allegedly Hercules. The Marvels will be a team-up of Marvel's Marvel characters: Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. And Wakanda Forever apparently will be a team-up of Marvel's Earth kingdoms: Wakanda and Atlantis. How long until we get the rumor that a third kingdom in WF will be Latveria?
  9. I guess I'll be seeing this one in IMAX opening weekend, too.
  10. Interesting casting choice, if true. I thought for sure they'd cast an Asian actor and somehow set Namor's kingdom in the Indian or Pacific Ocean, like Lemuria. So it seems with this direction, Atlantis will be tied to Central and South America, especially given that other actors being looked at in the news story are for Mayan roles, as if Atlantis will be linked to the ancient Mayan civilization. Perhaps this means Atlantis will be in the South Atlantic Ocean, between South America and Africa, unlike the comics which place it between Europe and North America. Also, I wonder if Ajak of the Eternals, played by another Mexican actor and linked to the Mayans in the movie, will also be linked to Atlantis and Namor. Perhaps the Eternals movie will be a set-up for the introduction of Atlantis.
  11. This almost made the WandaVision cut but, like Dr Strange, the filmmakers didn't want yet another hero coming in and possibly stealing Wanda's thunder. Too bad because I think this scene would have explained a lot...
  12. This isn't what I believe. This is what is. Comic books and super-heroes have taken over popular culture over the past 10 years and you have Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios to thank for that. You don't have to explain anything to me as I'm more than aware of the history of comic book movies before that, but Sam Rami's Spider-Man or even Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight didn't create the tsunami of comic book culture that has grandmothers now diehard fans of comic book movies. Marvel Studios did that.
  13. I posted over in Justice League Snyder Cut that I really liked the Snyder Cut and I have mad respect for Snyder(as we all should) especially the classy way he's handled himself publicly amidst all the controversy earlier this year. I just think it's funny that some comics collectors put Snyder on some pedestal when he is 100% responsible for the increasing unpopularity of DC films from Man of Steel to Batman v Superman and thus the devaluation of those intellectual properties, yet seem quick to constantly doubt Marvel Studios with each new movie when it's Marvel Studios we have to thank for making our hobby and culture the #1 thing in the world and quadrupling the value of our comic book collections.
  14. Zack Snyder aka the All-Father on if he would change anything about the MCU: "Nothing. I could have changed it so it would have maybe made less money or been less beloved. But for what they’ve created – I don’t know that there is a better way to do it." You can say it, Mr. Snyder..."because Kevin Feige is a genius."
  15. In the spirit of diplomacy, I’ll say Civil War is 60% Captain America and 40% Avengers. The Sokovia Accords and differences over government regulation do become the environment of Civil War, but the protagonist of the movie, the character with an active goal, is still Steve Rogers and his goal throughout the movie is to figure out who framed Bucky and what this villain’s bigger plan is. The obstacles to that goal are General Ross, Stark, T’Challa, and of course, Zemo, himself. Yes, the accident explosion in Lagos is the impetus for the Sokovia Accords, but the impetus for Steve’s mission to find the truth is the UN explosion that kills T’Chaka and starts a worldwide manhunt for the innocent Bucky.
  16. It seems like the time travel science of “Avengers Endgame” is more like “Back To The Future” than Tony Stark says. In “Back To The Future Part 2”(which I watched yesterday and had really forgotten about), when Old Biff travels to the past to give Young Biff of 1955 the sports almanac, he creates an alternative parallel branch reality where Biff becomes Hill Valley’s richest man, which leaves Marty and Doc Brown to travel back to the past and that point of confluence in 1955 to repair the fractured timeline. I suspect, from the trailer evidence, that this is what the TVA tasks Loki with in this series. So time travel in the MCU is more like Back to the Future then they say. According to Doc Brown’s science in Part 2, Marty traveling to the past in Part One would also have created a separate timeline from the old, one where George McFly is a success in life and not a loser.
  17. This is just my prediction. It's Kevin Feige who said that Captain Marvel will soon be at the forefront of the entire MCU. Having both a Captain Marvel and a new Captain America at the same time creates "who will lead the Avengers?" scenario when there's currently a power vacuum in Avengers land. I think the best solution is to have both a woman(Carol Danvers) and a black man(Sam Wilson) lead the Avengers together. I'm all for sharing. And I think the MCU in Phase Four and beyond will be about that, too.
  18. It's not a one size fits all point of logic. I've already agreed that The Marvels will obviously most likely be a TEAM-UP movie just as I've said every MCU solo film is actually a team-up movie. But even though The Marvels will feature Carol Danvers, Kamala, and Monica teaming up (or whatever), it will still be Carol Danvers' movie, just like Civil War was Steve Rogers' movie or Ragnarok was Thor's movie even though it was a team-up of Thor, Loki, Hulk, and Valkyrie. Captain Marvel's name is in the title. What do you think "Marvel" in The Marvels stands for? It stands for Captain Marvel and a supporting cast (Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau) who are influenced by Carol Danvers. Yes, I realize that "Captain" is missing from The Marvels title. I know that I'm not changing your mind and you will continue to see the fact that the word "Captain" not being in Captain Marvel's sequel title counts as a demotion. It's cool. I'll continue to post rebuttals to that claim (which is gaining traction amongst Captain Marvel's naysayers I will admit), but in the end, we'll just have to see how Captain Marvel's story plays out over the next year and a half. I still say Captain Marvel will be the head of a space division of the Avengers and Sam Wilson Captain America will be in charge of an Earth-level division of the Avengers.
  19. Here is the second and final trailer for Civil War that does show off that the Avengers are in the movie. But the way the trailer is edited still portrays Steve Rogers as the ultimate protagonist of this story and Tony Stark as more of an adversary to Cap. That the trailer towards the end has a beat-up Cap putting up his fists saying "I could do this all day" again points to Stark as the bully who Steve is up against.
