  1. Assuming the subject hasn’t poisoned you to the book, blow your bankroll, finish the puzzle, and move on with life rather than remain frustrated. Either that, or just burn the dam’n thing and then move on to a healthier obsession.
  2. Unless you are planning a home brew portfolio, I think you are out of luck. May this be the worst thing that happens to you.
  3. I was afraid I was losing my sense of taste. If Shultz were alive today, I wonder if he would have Shroeder playing video grames.
  4. Honestly, I don’t get it. The bad joke, yes, but the strip includes one of his worst Peanuts characters telling a Borscht Belt joke to his “friend.” Nothing special about the scene, except to drive home why Spike is a mediocre character. Certainly not a classic like Lucy pulling away the football. So why is this so desired?
  5. I don’t think they are worthless. But, they are not worthwhile.
  6. Personally, I don’t care for massive displays of art because I feel the raw quantity of material detracts from each individual piece with the result that the wall becomes more of a statement than what is on it. But, if I were going to set something up, I would make sure the pieces are all at or around eye level, and probably broken into smaller groupings on separate walls (how many depends on taste), maybe 5 or so per group, since odd numbers often look more natural, and also interject other things between groups, like furniture or just open space. I would also try to group art by subject matter, if possible, and definitely look to mixing heavily inked pieces interspersed with more open pieces between them. Anything closer than a frame sections’ width is likely to look cluttered, so If you pick a frame with a 1 inch border, try staying at least 1 if not 2 inches away from the next piece.
  7. Just casually wondering if anyone has noticed a continuing uptrend in pricing? Star pieces are always stars, and I think some dealers have posted higher prices on a few things than expected (although, that’s a bit like asking whether piranhas still bite), but stuff below $2,000-$5,000 doesn’t seem to be rising like the tides. There also seems to be a goodly amount of stuff on the market which continues to sit. Any thoughts?
  8. Likely to be semipermanent due to postal service cutbacks, caused by lower revenues. It’s a bit of a stink fighting over funding.
  9. Pollock provides a good counterweight to my fondness for Mondrian.
  10. Sounds like they were underpriced. Give it a while; they should show up soon on the flip thread.
  11. If there is a page out there with the Phantom Stranger riding a silver surfboard, count me in.
  12. My guess is that a room was once there, or, the attic area may have been a separate closed in space. Installation of an outlet would then be a likely building code requirement. But yes, a stand-alone AC unit is a third possibility.
  13. I can’t speak for others, but I would call it the commission of a fraud. The artist withheld material information regarding its content as most of it was done on a computer. The fact that it was the final version used in publication doesn’t change that. If he had disclosed its origins, I doubt you would have bought it, and he probably knew that when he listed it. All the elements for a fraud finding are therefore being met. Now, if you are asking what most collectors would consider it, responses would probably run in the direction of low end junk, to some who recognize that it may be the future for illustration art. Personally, I would pass without an original sketch being added, and only if it were priced only a little higher than a sketch. If I were in love with it, and it was a must have, I would treat it as a high end poster.
  14. I don't want to put too fine an edge on the point I was making, but I can give two examples. There are two pages I am interested in buying, both by the same artist. Both of them also have artistic weaknesses. In terms of composition, panel layout and detailing, one has higher high points, but lower lows. The other is moderately successful at all artistic elements, but nothing I would consider excellent. The second piece, however, has stronger dialog, hitting home on a character point I like. So, assuming prices are roughly equal, I wll probably get the second one. There have also been rare occasions when dialog alone wins out. The following piece is perfectly nice from an artistic view, but it was the cheesy dialog that sold me.
  15. For $20, Neil Adams would probably sign it (unless his rates went up). He once mentioned to me he signed someone’s shoe for a 20.
  16. Just curious why you refer to them as primary artist and secondary artist? For media, are you a buyer of digital art, or is that something different?
  17. I love a good cross-over. He also shows up as part of an illegal (copyright infringement) crossover in Uncanny X-men #125, page 16 (panel 5) in the crowd in the Shi'Ar throneroom, and he's in Mystic #15, p.3. The former page is (or was) listed for sale by Los Bros, not sure where the second one is.
  18. No reason to be meticulous if it doesn’t meet your needs. Since your sheet shows professional grading, what else would you need?
  19. Interesting. Very differently oriented to mine.
