  1. It's still just stunning to me there are only 24 CGC universal/signature graded copies in 9.0 or higher. There might be a few high grade copies out in the wild, but we know the Sim Signature file copies were the best of the batch.
  2. I think scarcity is driving a lot of the price appreciation as there just aren't that many copies available. Cerebus may never anchor a blockbuster movie franchise, but there are still more nostalgic fans and/or investors than issues to go around.
  3. Higher grade Cerebus #1 still selling at high prices. An 8.0 sold for $9k on HA. https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/cerebus-the-aardvark-1-aardvark-vanahem-1977-cgc-vf-80-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7338-94150.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515
  4. There is a thread on this. https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/462483-cerebus-1-cgc-96/#comments
  5. Another raw sale (and bonus counterfeit) with pretty clear amateur restoration. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334586177518
  6. Cerebus #2 has quite the grading curve too. I can't even count the number of spine ticks and other defects on this 9.0.
  7. Better late than never. I see a few spine ticks on the front and back, so this is a fine specimen, but definitely graded on the "Cerebus curve."
  8. A CGC 9.8 Hulk 181 recently sold for $138,000.00. Do you think the highest graded Cerebus (CGC 9.6) would sell for the same?
  9. If historical poignancy had any measurement in this medium, this would be the most valuable comic book in the world.
  10. When referring to NM, I meant the lowest scale of VF/NM (CGC 9.0) as there seems to be about 20 graded copies in that condition or higher and possibly a handful of other ungraded ones out there. I don't know if anyone has accounted for any high grade copies Deni Loubert may still have, if any.
  11. Cerebus #1 copies in high grade are extremely scarce when you consider there might only be 25 copies in NM or better based on poor printing and age. This approaches the golden age scarcity range of some key books.
  12. The last Cerebus #1 CGC 9.4 sold for $29,130. https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/history.asp?item=1453575&back=%2Fauctions%2Fitem%2Easp%3Fback%3D%252FAUCTIONS%252FPREVIEW%252EASP%253Fcode%253D2021feb%2523Item%255F1453575%26id%3D1453575%26itemType%3D0
  13. A rather prominently displayed counterfeit Cerebus #1 is in the following video. The ugly orange color really gives it away.

  15. Many people don't understand why copies of Cerebus #1 are skyrocketing in price. Setting aside the demand for the book itself, Sim's legacy, and it's place in the history of independent comics, it checks two very important boxes in collectibles. 1) Absolute Rarity (there are only 2,000 copies and some of those are presumed not to exist anymore). 2) Condition Rarity (most copies are badly damaged and looking at the CGC census, it's easy to see that possibly 25 copies exist at the CGC 9.0 grade or higher).
  16. I think it sold for significantly more than the opening bid amount.
  17. Another #1 apparently sold within hours of posting ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cerebus-the-Aardvark-Dave-Sim-1-Major-Key-Issue-Low-print-Run-Rare-VF-VF-/265089747151?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
  18. Funny Aminals #1 CGC 9.9 Comic books are so prevalent in today's society, but in 1972, a quirky titled Robert Crumb book featured the first iteration of Art Spiegelman's Maus. Twenty years later, Maus became the first (and is still the only) graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize. This is truly a remarkable moment for the industry. A nearly 50-year old comic book in CGC 9.9 is incredibly rare, but featuring the first appearance of such a noteworthy event is beyond cool.
  19. There may be a duplicate or two of resubmissions, but considering there are only 20 or so copies of Cerebus #1 graded CGC 9.0 or higher, makes this issue an extremely hard find in VF/NM condition.
  20. Great series and groundbreaking in so many ways.
  21. How collectible or rare are the infamous 2007 Valiant Sneak Peak (sic) issues? I've picked up two copies in the wild of the "trashcan" issue.
