Great Books, All!! This thread has really heightened my appreciation of Timely books after being primarily a DC collector for the last thirty/forty years. BTW, I had my only Timely--a Marvel Mystery 54--slabbed a few years ago and it came back a 5.0. with Off White pages. Can anyone tell me what the GPA is on this book? I'd sure appreciate it.

    Thanks,

there is no gpa for a 5.0 mmc 54...

Thanks for the info. Hard to say what it's actually worth. According to the census it's the second highest graded and it has a great Schomberg cover.

  2. Just back from CGC. Frankly, surprised by the Young Allies #4. Looks better than either the #5 (really brown and chipped edges on the back cover) or #9. It is a really nicely presenting 3.0 with decent PQ. Oh well, it is a crapshoot sometimes.

  3. This is pretty interesting because it markes the first appearance of Bizarro, also, his design changed from this house ad to the one used in Superboy 68, it never had a "B" on the chest, and....it marks the first time (to my knowledge) that an issue of Superboy did a "coming next issue" kinda blurb.

I love finding stuff like this

Love the colors on your Superboy 68. Beautiful copy!

    John72tex,

I've been enjoying your Batman Silver Age collection. I especially lkie the Batwoman covers and appearances. I just bought a copy of the Batman 105 in CGC 7.0. I've been looking for one since I sold my copy some twenty years ago to raise money to buy a condo. I sold some nice books but it was worth it. Thus, I'm actively pursuing the other Batwoman covers in the title. You have a great collection. If you have any undercopies, LMK,

    Thanks,

  5. AdventureComics180.jpg From Sept. 1952, an issue one doesn't see very often. It's a nice copy except for those obtrusive initials. I enjoy the backups in these early fifties' Adventures especially Green Arrow and Johnny Quick and Aquaman. I think Ramona Fradon was the artist on Aquaman. There weren't too many women in the field back then and I've always admired her work. I met her a few times in San Diego.
  6. I don't think anyone's posted this one yet...

I'm not in the same league as you high grade guys. For my collection, however, this is the ideal grade. No major flaws but not so perfect that it is neither unreadable nor commands a premium. A copy like this one just puts me on :cloud9:

Now if I could only find them all in the 5.0 to 7.0 range... anybody selling?

Great book! Origin tale. My copy is about the same grade as yours, perhaps just slightly better. Consequently, I've enjoyed reading it over the years. And I do mean years; I've owned it since the mid-sixties. Late at night now; I'll post it tomorrow or Thursday.

  7. StrangeAdventures4.jpg THis thread could use a bump. Here's an issue I don't see very often. Would you believe my father bought this for me at Cherokee Book Store in Hollywood, Calif when I was in middle school. He bought about 10 books that day for a buck, and he kept this one for himself only because he was a big Science Fiction fan--especially Asimov and Frank Herbert. After my father died last year, my mom told me she still had the box of books. This one was by far the highest grade.

Maybe it's an illusion or perspective, but the stamp looks larger inside the slab than outside the slab. Maybe one of these days I'll slab the book since I already read the story many moons ago.

The slab scan is larger. :baiting:

I figured as much! BTW, Ken, Thanks for the WW 108. Pricey, but it is the highest graded and I love it in the new slab! Great cover and great story! Hope to see you in San Diego this summer.
