  1. First Code Approved. I like the Bat Signal!
  2. From Feb. 1943. Looks like Hermann Goering on Hitler's left flank and Joseph Goebells on his right. Anyway, it's one of my favorite covers of the title. The story's kind of lalme, though!
  3. Finally, I scored and purchased only my second Joker cover. The book also contains the 1st apppearance of Vicki Vale and the Golden Age Mad Hatter!
  4. suhweet! What a beautiful copy, Mike!! Curious to know the page quality. Stunning book! Congrats!
  5. Good luck with your quest! BTW, as long as I had dug out that X-Men 9, I decided to read it last night. It's real fun reading these stories and appreciating both Stan Lee's storytelling and Jack Kirby's art. I'll dig out my number six. I had my X-Men 3 slabbed back in '04 so I can't reread that story. But I was happy with the grade of 8.5. I'll post that one too in the next couple of days!
  6. Here's my copy of Lois Lane 15. This cost me some bucks, but I bought it from Michael Goldman of Motor City Comics, one of my favorite dealers. He's always willing to bargain and enjoys bargaining in good faith.
  7. Here's another MGA from the same time period. MGA 43 from May 1960. I bought it from a good friend who, in turn, bought it from Mark Wilson. Probably couldn't even afford the book in this high of a grade today. Back in the mid nineties they were somewhat affordable.
  8. Here's one of four X-Men books that I own. I bought it back in the early eighties at the SDCC. I forgot what I paid for it, but it couldn't have been too much.
  9. Here's another book I bought in Hollywood, CA back in the seventies, only this book I purchased at Cherokee books on Hollywood Blvd between Gower and Cherokee Blvds. (Bond St Books was on Wilton as I recall). This book cost me only five bucks and my dad was still pissed. Okay, it's not a 10 center, but it's got that 10 cent feel to it and I believe the Big Box 12 cent thread had been moribund for awhile. One of my favorite Silver Age covers:
  10. Here's my copy of Action Comics 252. Sure, I've seen better copies, most notably Silver's copy, but I bought my copy in the mid 70s at Bond Street Books in Hollywood. I remember most vividly my dad nearly blowing his top when he found out I paid $15.00 for a comic book. Sure wish I could pay $15.00 for copies in a similar grade today.
  11. I had this book slabbed last summer at the SDCC. Contains the origin of Batman. There's only four in the census and this CGC 6.5 is the second highest graded with a single CGC 7.0 the highest. 1950s DCs are very tough to find in grades of fine or better.
  12. Beautiful copy of a tough book. Congrats! I notice the 10-cent price was left off. I have a My Greatest Advdenture #43 ( I think it's a 43 in which the 10-cent price was accidentally left off as well.) SLR
  13. Never seen that cover before. Wow!! Congrats on your first 9.6!
  14. Beautiful colors on a low grade book! Congrats! How is the page quality?
  15. Posted this book in the Golden Age Forum, but it's probably more of a Silver Age book, so I'll post it here, too. Tough book to find in grade.
  16. This is a 1954 book so it's not really Silver Age so I'll post the book here. From my experience, it's a difficult one to find. Detective Comics #209 has a very similar cover; when I dig it out I'll post it as well.
  17. Thanks Danny. Here's my copy of Action Comics #224. I've never been a big fan of Al Plastino, but I do think it's his best cover. I guess I llike the idea of a Superman Island where I can spend all my time reading comics and books from Superman to Dostoevsky ()
  18. Very nice! Congratulations! [/quot Actually, I bought the book about 10 years ago, in the late nineties. BTW, comicdonna, you have one of the better Golden Age Action Collections that I've ever seen. I so enjoy looking at your book when you post then. SLR
  19. Here's the first Luthor cover in Action Comics. Purchased this VG/VG+ copy from Harley Yee. The back cover has a large crease in it, but is still in nice presentable shape for a major key. Good storytelling, too!
  20. Love the Rudolph Books; I have a few of my own. I also enjoy looking at the Batman 92; it's in great shape. You have some beautiful books.
  21. Here's Frontier Fighters #5, agaiin, DC"S attempt to exploit Crockett Mania in the mid fifties. This title lasted only eight issues and are tough to fight in grade.
  22. Posted this book in the Silver Age Forum, but it obviously belongs here too. What with Tim Burton's new film on Alice in Wonderland opening up in March and the series of Alice books currently in demand by the younger set, this book, the first Appearance of the Mad Hatter, should see a corresponding rise in price and demand. BTW, it's one of my favorite books!
  23. Here is Tomahawk #35 from September of 1955 at the height of the Davy Crockett Mania in the USA. I once read an article in the Los Angeles Times in which Fess Parker, who portrayed the character in the Disney Flicks, claimed that Davy Crockett and his coonskin cap were bigger that Beatlemania. Anyway, this is the "origin" story of the character. I've been looking for this book for awhile in a nice mid grade affordable condition and finally found a copy back in July at the SDCC.
  24. Beautiful copy, Mike. I love the yellows. Great Page Quality, too! Yeah, I'm feeling much better. I'll be scanning more books in the very near future. Check out the Show us the 10-centers thread in the Silver Age Forum. I've posted two books there that you'll like I'm sure. Steve
  25. Here is the 100th anniversary issue of Captain Marvel Adventures. I don't believe DC ever issued a book with metallic inks. The process, I imagaine was very expensive.. Anyway, that's the reason I like this book so much.
