  1. It depends on the policy. Very detailed pics and inventory with cert # will definitely help… Many of those high dollar books will likely not be covered as there is often a cap. And without cameras or footage showing the actual burglary the insurance company can call shenanigans quite easily. In my experience with small business, this business would need to provide more evidence for a claim to be fully covered. Many insurance companies will require the small business to have video surveillance to be fully insured from burglary. Burglary is a grey area for insurance companies and small business. It’s very difficult for small business to prove they owned the book which was was stolen so small businesses usually have to settle for much lower claim. An adjuster or actuary will instantly be suspect of the inventory listed. Looks like an inside job. The list is almost too good to be true. A very unfortunate situation for the owner and I hope the claims adjuster is kind. Let’s hope these books are recovered and the perpetrators arrested!
  2. I watched 2 episodes and had a hard time getting through the second episode.. Was really excited for a horror based superhero in Chicago that jetsets around the globe going on dank and creepy missions. sort of Indiana Jones-Batman-Dracula vibe. What we got was a reimagined mess. the source material was perfectly fine. imagine if Chris Columbus decided to write his own Harry Potter movie and throw out source material. the amount of disrespect the comic industry puts up with just for agenda driven m she u is pathetic. my god just stick to source material Disney plus it’s not hard. if I wanted to binge on searchlight films or character driven indie comedies with quirky cliche I’ll go watch eternal sunshine of the spotless mind or Napoleon dynamite again. thanks for wasting my 2 hours, give me superheroes in actual action scenes please. Wtf is up with Disney plus and m she u? rant off, cheers gents and ladies
  3. Rest In Peace. May nothing but happiness come through your door into the great beyond.
  4. I’ve tried to wait until delivery and unboxing but curiosity always gets the best of me! it’s when I have multiple submissions where I start getting obsessed! does anyone else check their status like 3 times a day?
  5. At least the seller didn’t cancel a day before the auction ended. With due diligence you’ll get a 251 in better condition for sure! take it as a win instead of a loss. If staples were detached as suspected you might have overpaid! Good luck! When you find a good looking copy in your price range post pics!
  6. A lot of times it feels like people have become slaves to these social media apps. reading this thread for instance. It’s apparent social media is the big collectible here, not comics. Facebook Twitter Instagram discord and tiktok are becoming more detrimental to society. I went to order an exclusive drop from a major online retailer and they required at least 3 apps to make the purchase. One of the apps required was the one discussed on this thread. It’s sad seeing society controlled by ad revenue
  7. Kevin Eastman used to sign and doodle a turtle face as part of the regular priced signature. In fact most of his pre Ronan sigs included the turtle face doodle. And he happily did it free as it only takes him about 4 seconds to draw it as he’s said before. But now Kevin Eastmans signature is considered a “Remarque”? can someone clarify? For instance the recent books I sent in for Kevin Eastman I kind of expect the doodle turtle as it’s been a staple and part of his signature for decades. sadly looking at feebay and all the new sigs DONT include the doodle and it’s off putting. cheers all
  8. Thanks for sharing your story. There may not be much you can do given the circumstances surrounding the process. I don’t mean to be a downer or negative but there is no way to know for sure how they were damaged. All cgc staff handles comics very well in my experience. And most lgs that grade for patrons or customers also handle comics well. I suggest calling customer service and explaining your situation. I can’t promise any magic fixes but someone could at least help you resolve the matter and have some finality. Careful packaging and handling are very important. With an order that large I recommend making the submission yourself! Creating a submission is easier than ever. Online tutorials and cgc staff will always be there to help ensure the process goes smoothly. By giving your books to a third party it increases the chances of damage during handling as another user posted. good luck!
  9. Email customer support. Another useful email: Matt mnelson@cgccomics.com
  10. Are you referring to the signing card ‘cut out’ that must be placed in the Mylar behind the book? I suggest calling cgc. It may take a little bit to get through but the person you want to talk to is Brittany McManus. If you explain the situation and it’s just one book, Brittany McManus is a legend and absolute rock star. They will likely be able to help you. Just call as soon as you can. I know folks that have forgotten or incorrectly followed instructions whom have called in and Brittany was able to find the customers order and correct the order in most cases no problem! good luck!
  11. Rest In Peace, Greg. What a cool shop!! Great place to start of the day before walking across the Roberto Clemente bridge to see a ball game at PNC park! I have fond memories bringing in my 1 yr old son, Isaac(iko) and sifting through the dollar bin on the 1st floor! Or going downstairs and talking shop with Jim or another assistant. I still own many key comics I picked up from Greg. He sold me a Star Wars #1, (1977 1st print) raw for $30, and it slabbed a 9.2 after press! early fantastic four run of #44-47, the entire run of the first Deadpool kills marvel universe, countless x-men keys from the dollar bins..early Harley Quinn.. In the basement there was the long boxes by the stairs. all ripped or well read, many coverless books My buddy found a coverless hulk 180 for a quarter!! We found so many gems in those boxes beat to hell and coverless! all this was between 2010-2014 when I could still afford collecting keys!! I’m a Pittsburgh native (squirrel Hill, shady side). I’ve been fairly loyal to Todd Mcdevitt regarding the Tec 27 fiasco. There is a lot of speculative information floating out there but if you really want to talk to the source. Todd is often at his Elwood warehouse and you can talk to him personally. I don’t want to throw shade anywhere as I have the upmost respect for Greg and Todd but yes, there could easily be a Netflix documentary concerning the tec 27!! Rest in Peace brother, may the great beyond welcome you with open arms. Go stillers!
  12. Long live quarter bins!! New Dimensions warehouse in Elwood city PA (Pittsburgh) still has the best dollar books in the land! where do yinz go for dollar box books?
  13. My sympathies for the victim. Hopefully with well documented photographs and scans the community may be able to find particular books stolen in the collection but this will take lots of time. It may be some time before these books are recirculated. If not a safety deposit box at a major bank, I highly suggest storing your big investments in your own well secured home (adt premium 69.99 a month package with the 6 cameras OR for only 3.99 a month Ring is an option there are many viable options to safely Secure your collection. Also discretion plays a major factor. When networking on facebook or Instagram try not to brag or flaunt unless you have good security! Thanks bob for taking the time to help a fellow collector. good luck
  14. I’m in love with my recent signature slab. Thanks Brittany and crew at cgc!! Matt signed “sky guy” and Ashley signed “snips”. thank you very much Ashley and Matt!!
  15. I forgot to ask what about books like Captain America #6 (1st winter soldier) Is that key a part of the “avengers universe”? A or are we strictly referencing the avengers title only thanks!
  16. X-men and Spider-Man universe has an insane amount of keys. Probably x-men. They have so many teams that resonate in pop culture today. Gold. Blue. Force. Factor.new mutants. Etc.. none of them have needed Movies or shows to be popular. however spidey universe has so many key books like wos #118, they can be be easily overlooked. X-men keys are all super liquid during summer time convention season especially if an x-men artist or writer like Claremont is in attendance. alas my opinion is subjective, but not many universes can compete with spidey and mutants for beloved keys. I guess the question would be what exact titles we are comparing. ASM might not have quite as many keys as UXM but as a whole the spidey universe might be neck and neck with the x-men universe.
  17. I listed some keys this weekend and most Star Wars key lots have sold out! I split 2 complete runs of 1999 dark horse issues 1-80ish. Immediately sold both Outlander runs(#7-12), and bad batch runs (#65-70) above market price. I had multiple buyers ask me if I specifically had more Star Wars #10 (1st sharad hett prior to becoming darth krayt) and #65 (1st Commander Bly) I also listed a copy of #23 after reading this thread and it sold within a few hours above market price. I still don’t get that one but it’s easy money. I forget the issues quinlan vos and Ayala appear but I sold that twilight run fast as well. My dh Star Wars tales runs are selling out fast too. Lots of interest in the older dark horse kotor run as well. I’m almost out of stock of most dark horse Star Wars titles except for the massively printed dh from the early 90s. my newer Star Wars marvel inventory is collecting dust though unless it’s a key. Or I list 15 or so books in lots heavily discounted below retail. Also my high republic sales are simmering down for sure. May have to lower prices. Im holding onto a lot of my inventory until next Christmas when Star Wars gets a boost. I just wanted to chime in and report my limited anecdotal evidence. I had no idea these books were this hot till I stumbled upon this thread a few months ago! Star Wars #65 is on fire cheers
  18. I sold a high grade JIM run ( 83-110, all 6.0 white pages or higher but ungraded) in 2010 to pay for my wife’s graduate school expenses and live in the city with a cushion. For $5,000. which was very nice at the time for raw. The 83 was around a cgc 6-7 but very white pages. At the same time I also had to sell a complete pack fresh magic the gathering Antiquities set for $1000, and a bgs 8.5 1st edition Charizard base for $800. At the time it was decent money and a nice roi for my time and investment. The funds helped get us through school. The MCU was taking off and magic the gathering was picking up steam yet I never could have predicted or imagined the YouTube Fomo culture or Pokémon go craze. what keeps me from going crazy is the love of my wife and children. I couldn’t have provided for them without constantly making moves in this hobby 🙂. Cheers and good luck
  19. I’ve seen several hundred copies over the years pass through Todd’s warehouse in Elwood city and it’s uncommon. Maybe 5 out of 100 copies had that much color rub. Of course my sample is anecdotal. Awesome thread guys. So, on to spec news.. LEGO summer 2021 set list names with preliminary images have just been revealed and we have a “Mandalore set on throne” being released. The minifigure appears to be Mandalore the Indomitable/Ultimate. It makes sense to think Disney is up to something here which gives rise to SW:TotJ Sith war #1 and especially #6 receiving some more attention. #1 is the first appearance of Mandalore the Indomitable. #6 is the first appearance of Mandalore the Ultimate. Cheap copies are drying up. #1 can still be won in auction for less than $10. The LEGO minifigure appears to be the same Mandalore in the cover art. many thanks everyone for keeping me informed on these insanely hot Star Wars keys!
  20. kotor 1st appearances are quite popular. The half page panel Malak appears in Star Wars Tales#23 with Revan seems to be another favorite 1st appearance of most Star Wars fans. He clearly appears on the panel in a very sweet 1/2 page spread. Very cool art as well. I’d definitely keep an eye out on that one. Out of all the legends and eu material seems Exar Kun and Uliq qel Droma are shoe ins for future material. Isn’t exar considered canon now? Their first appearances have completely flew under the radar. copies of Star War Tales #1 and Dark Lords of the Sith #6 are still reasonable. The ashcan variant of dark lords #1 just recently broke $20.00. Exar kun and uliq are considered the greatest sith lords ever( according to most legends and eu fiction, and now canon). The pump and dump key comic site doesn’t mention them much. But it’s funny considering exar kun has already been referenced in film.
  21. It might be a regional thing. Sports cards have been dead for 20 years but there is a small group of collectors still out there convincing themselves there 1/1 jersey patch auto UD ULTRA BLACK michael Jordan Nolan Ryan Lebron, Brady quad auto jersey game played card is cool... but its not..
  22. Cracks are an unfortunate reality of cgc holders but better the holder be damaged than comic, right? Yes, a major crack that is easily noticed on the cgc label will reduce the value to potential buyers. It's best to reholder for $20. Cracks can get worse and potentially damage the comic.
  23. I just wanted to point out a few recent sale that may support a slight price correction is occurring. A Hulk 181 cgc 9.4 ow/w sold for 9k on ebay from an Overstreet Contributor. One of Todd Mcdevitt's old Ellwood city warehouse managers. mythiccardzone . the guy has flaweless feedback selling high end art, graded power 9, graded silver age. so excuses really can't be made. looking at his negatives from years ago, sounds like a typical northeast dealer. doesn't take bs. no alarms there. I don't think it's a panic by any means. It's just a slight correction. There are hundreds of 9.4's. Around 8.5 k seems right. (as several have sold for that from less reputable sellers). Then it will get a little bump back to the 11k highs when Disney movies kick off. remember, its not a panic, just a slight correction.
  24. People have stopped asking for it at shows this last year so I'm assuming we'll know more this convention season. where do you get 10 million from..you are about 3 million off the mark bud. Its a fact season 8 had the lowest number of viewers since season 2. http://deadline.com/2017/11/walking-dead-ratings-hit-low-six-years-andrew-lincoln-norman-reedus-amc-1202213137/ This spring/summer we'll see what's selling at shows... so far this year the big books to have on your wall (dealers) are Fantastic Four 48-49, 52 Hulk 181 Af 15 Dealers are selling out of FF 48 before doors open. Hulk 181 and AF 15 is no surprise. I think people are prepared to shell out mega bucks this year for them but not Walking Dead. If owned a Walking Dead 9.8 I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a nice 9.0+ FF 48 or Hulk 181. which is something I wouldn't have said 2 years ago.
  25. No, Wolverine is the most popular and celebrated superhero in the world. Hulk is also a beloved superhero internationally. Most of the 80's and 90's Wolverine books are good reads in any language translation and have withstood the test of time. Wolverine as Patch, Lazarus Project, the epic Sabertooth battles, Weapon X, Punisher War journal 6/7, the entire Claremont X-men run... nothing really comes close in terms of quality comic book literature. Wolverine is Canada's first superhero, Wolverine has grown massively popular in China over the last few years. The global demand for 181 is skyrocketing with no end in sight! Its only a matter of time before we see a Disney Hulk Vs Wolverine movie. aka disneys version of a tranformers like spectacle. Hell it can be a 2 hour long slugfest with no dialogue and still make 2 billion.. in China alone. Disney is hurting to make it in China.. X-men/Wolverine are a huge key to that success. We still have yet to see a Wolverine on screen with iconic mask! With a fickle stock market currently on our hands, Hulk 181 is probably one of the best investments anyone could make other than real estate in 'green' friendly states like Colorado or Washington.
