Is there any way to confirm he is alive?

Makes no sense putting someone who may have died in the HoS.

Why are people assuming that something bad happened to him or that he is dead because he no longer posts on a forum?  People have done this for years on the internet without speculating of "is s/he dead"?

I am surprised that as much buying and selling he did here, nobody was able to find out where he is or what happened.  Did he use a physical address or PO box?  I did a deal  with him quite a while ago.  I suppose I could go back and check for an address.

I have his address and plan to send a letter tomorrow to see if that will somehow make its way to him.  If no response i'll pay the money for a background check to track down his phone number which will be stated in the letter.

True. The long term remains to be seen. I am just saying that it is out in the popular culture. I like the show myself and hope that it has legs. Only time will tell.

There's plenty of other shows that had pop culture appeal and made shows but then fizzled.  There's no reason to think this will be any different.

Deadly Class, Umbrella Academy, Preacher....a few examples of shows that made the value pop and only the #1 for the most part held some type of value.

I think the issue here is that he has dropped out of sight, and that can be read in different ways, but imo many Boardies would be reluctant to start an HoS process without being certain of the circumstances. He is on the PL which covers a wide range of bad transactions for a wide range of reasons, but HoS is much narrower and gets traction only when the offender is considered as being "beyond the pale", as having done something so bad that merely fixing a transaction is not enough for redemption. HoS is a moral judgment, and you should hold off that until you know the exact reasons for his disappearance. If he had indeed suffered a serious misfortune of some kind, the PL would stand, but few would support an HoS nomination. 2c

I can't say I agree with what you are saying.  I mean isn't taking peoples money and not shipping anything "gross misconduct"?  I'm still out money 2 years later....maybe something did happen to him but none of us know and the fact remains that he took money from more then a few people and didn't ship anything.  Whether he pops back up or not really shouldn't make a difference to what he did back in 2018 and the forum members reaction to defending him instead of focusing on the part of him not shipping items while stealing peoples money.  It happens all the time in the world where a thief takes money and then disappears.  Surprised me to see people in such defense of him instead of being concerned with people losing money.  I think that bothered me (and still bothers me to some extent) more than anything today.  I look back at his profile and see that his occupation was "lover" and he spent so much time in the water cooler being a clown so in the end, I guess i'm not really surprised to see him out of all people doing this.  (shrug)

That would be true if the show does not pick up a fan base. Like anything if the show has no fan base it will disappear. However, there are several things going in its favor. It is currently #2 on Netflix and is an international hit. It already is building a huge fan base and it's title is not easily forgotten. It has a great mythology and over 200 plus comics that it can draw story material from not to mention potential spin-offs. Also, unlike the Marvel material, NETFLIX OWNS Warrior Nun. It would behove them to want to put resources behind something they can control and possibly launch it's own NETFLIX extended universe. As long as they produce new material that engages the fan I do not see it dying down. I for one am getting her 1st appearance while it is still cheap. Remember this is a book that sat in $1 bins since 1994. At the moment there is really not much out there capturing the general public at large and this could be the one everyone is talking about. I liked the series very much. It does start slow but it is world building and establishing character. I think once things get rolling there is no limit.

There's a lot to be unseen.  Most of what you are saying are hypothetical's surrounding the show.  I mean it was just released.  Seems a little premature to be considering this a sure fire bet.  Even if people talk about it now, doesn't mean they will talk about it in 6 months.

  6. It'll be a gem mint 10!

Who knows with these pictures.  You can see some spine ticks but really hard to tell inside the bag.  Hopefully the bag crease can be pressed out.  I see a misinformed consensus with newer collectors that polybagged=better condition but the bag can also hide actual defects on the book that can not be pressed out.

I had to go digging... so I am hoping one of you guys could school me...

I am under the idea that PSA is still top dog... where does Beckett rank?  Where does SGC rank?  I attended a sports card show almost ten years ago at Hofstra University where SGC was doing on site grading.  I brought my Jordan card with me.  Is it best left in an SGC holder?  Is it best transferred to PSA?  Wait for CGC?

The other Jordan card was considered a rookie card of sorts at some point as it was printed in 85.

Also is pressing still a thing with cards?  How will CGC take note of that?

Those good ole Hofstra sports cards shows.  I used to go to those all the time as a pre-teen/teenager growing up in the early to mid 90's.

I don't follow cards anymore as closely but I do check into the blowoutcard forums every once in a while.  That would be your best bet for information.

someone messaged me about that today... Aliens Predators has been in the comics since the 80s... why is buying AP comics a new sensation? Just like all the SW Clone Wars comics.. those have been around for a looong time.. I know there is renewed interest w the movies and comics.. but did it really take an Eternals announcement for "fans" to start buying.. where were those "fans" in the 40 years gap between release and movie announcement?

Interest by way of magnification happens in every hobby.  Look at the explosion of basketball cards with all of the attention of Zion Williamson and almost everything Jordan/Bulls related after the mega popular ESPN documentary.  The group herd mentality of us as human beings has people rushing out whenever the spotlight is on a particular topic.  This is nothing new and never has been.

I do not find it to be true that CGC graded books consistently more strict in their early days (old label) Except for page quality.  Based on experience, I believe the first few years open CGC was  more strict on page quality.  The appeal of old label books is that it's very unlikely they were cleaned and pressed, since that wasn't really an established thing yet. Cleaning and pressing were generally part of an overall restoration of comics. Done by the few restoration experts around.

I also do not find graders notes all that helpful. Ultimately what is helpful is an in-hand examination by someone that can look for both the the defects pressing can improve and defects that can't be improved. And they have some experience and skill with likely CGC grade if resubmitted.  I only bother with grading notes when a CGC graded books looks much nicer than the assigned grade.  Then they might be useful in identifying any defects that are difficult to impossible to see because of the encapsulation.

You cannot do a proper evaluation of CPR (crack, press, resubmit)  from a few pictures. That said, Looking at the pictures, the book looks to be worth pressing and resubmitting. I do not believe you'll see a huge bump. The defect that can't be fixed with pressing and will hold the book back grade wise  is the small tear on the middle of the right outer edge of the front cover. Probably done by someone using a thumb or finger to open the the cover. Two little tiny tears and a stress line between the tears.

So you need to get this book in for evaluation of CPR. There are a number of qualified pressing services.  Perhaps simplest for someone new to the game is just send it in to CCS - the in house pressing service of CGC.  Pay for the book to be screened and CCS will decide if the book is good candidate (no guarantees, just an expert opinion) for removing from the holder, pressing and regrading. Once CCS has done their part then they send the book over to CGC for grading and encapsulation.

The real deal here is cost vs benefit. This is not a guaranteed thing. So you are rolling the dice. By the time you pay for shipping to CCS, screening, pressing grading and return shipping back to you the bill will probably be over $100. IF the book goes up to 8.5 you've made a few bucks but that's it. . If it stays the same you are out the money.  Which is why you want to pay for the screening if you use CCS

This and reiterating in bold IMO the most important bits.

You stipulate it in the description. It's like in mint toys in boxes. You, the seller, cannot be held accountable for an issue with something that is sealed. Same with slabbed comics. the guarantee comes from CGC, not you. If ever they make a claim, bring up the listing showing that you mention everything and that there is nothing lacking. E-bay/paypall has sided with sellers in the past when there was nothing to reproach, my friend who sells Transformers on e-bay has had e-bay side with him every single time.

The description doesnt matter. What you are saying SHOULD be the way it is but unfortunately it isnt.  The description can say no returns but Paypal/eBay will allow returns for almost any reason.  Do you sell on eBay?  I'd say most sellers here know this to be true.

The potential for WARRIOR NUN to become huge is there. If the series is any good. If it does resonate with viewers the potential for back issues to explode is there. Right now the first issue is becoming more expensive but there is still plenty of meat on the bones in regards to other issues. The thing is that NETFLIX owns WARRIOR NUN and with the loss of the MCU they are keen to exploit their own superhero universe. Most WARRIOR NUN back issues are super cheap. Most are dollar bin fodder. I would focus on first appearances. Like NHS #38 has the first appearance of Lillith who may appear in the series.

I'd be willing to bet that people forget about this show rather quickly and you won't see the back issues holding much value.  There has been and will continue to be new shows from comics but not all will maintain their high pricing as people start to lose interest in the show and it is eventually no longer produced.

So make it strict, no returns on slabbed books.

How though?  Even if you put no returns on your listing, eBay still accepts returns and tends to side with the buyer in what seems like almost every time.

I've always been worried about selling a book and then the comic coming back returned.  I have returns for cracked slabs and either send them to CGC for a reholder, sell it as is or deslab and sell it raw.

The best advice I saw for you is to contact CGC and see if they can potentially take care of it for you with a press and regrade but even then, they won't be able to guarantee the same exact grade.

NY has just cancelled the state fair for the 1st time in 75 years

NY now has travel restrictions from 17 states with no current expiration dates

NY city is currently in phase 3 of a 4 phase re-opening , There is currently no date for  phase 4

originally indoor entertainment venues such as Movie theaters  were scheduled for phase 4

But they have been pulled, and are now closed indefinitely . The Theater district in NY is closed until at least 2021

It is unlikely you will even be able to see a movie in NY before September Let alone A Major convention

Like every other Show this year Reed is no doubt taking a wait and see attitude

IMO it's foolish for them to keep waiting and hold out hope that they can somehow do the show.  My guess is that they are not telling people so that they can announce a virtual con and have some interest in that rather then a waning interest and no one caring if they cancel now and then announce a virtual con down the road.  Probably rather keep that interest going until they can get a firm idea on a virtual style con and what it will consist of.  I get the economic impact it'll have but NY has much more important things to worry about then a comic convention.

  14. I think there's a common misconception that a press even from the best presser is an automatic bump.  I sent a modern book in for grading without pressing and I know it had minor issues that could be pressed out but didn't think it'd grade lower then a 9.2-9.4 and didn't need a 9.6/9.8.  I wouldn't been happy with a 9.0 for that matter.  It comes back an 8.0 with notes similar to yours.  CGC has a tendency to be very vague with their grader notes.  I sent the book for a press and it still came back an 8.0 with even less notes.  The book looks better to me and I see a couple of the color breaking creases gone but I don't agree with the grade especially after a press.  You can make an informed opinion on if a press will help or what a book will grade at but nothing is guaranteed.

  15. I like them and think the cases look pretty cool.  I used to collect sports cards back in the day and keep my ear to the ground on how the market is doing.  Don't ever see myself getting into sports cards again but I might be tempted to start grading some of my Marvel cards.  Those have a special place in my heart and I have a few complete sets still that i'll thumb through from time to time.  I wonder if this gets some traction that we'll see prices start to tick up for graded Marvel trading cards.

I the answer was dictated by the market, Juggernaut would definitely be the answer. But he always felt so low key in terms of damage when going up against the x-men as a whole team. The second biggest villain for the x-men is MAN and all the they do to destroy mutants. Like project orchid from the recent comics or sentinels and all the super robot that comes with.

Right on both counts and I like you're thinking bringing up "Man" which makes total sense when you are thinking of the overall concept of X-Men and the struggle of mutants vs humans.  If anything "Man" would be the #1 villain as they also create the conflict with Magneto.
