I'm pretty sure it was at least partially directed at me since it's his only response to my question. Also, I read lots of threads to find an answer before asking and to be fair I wasn't asking if the grade was wrong, but simply whether there was damage to the comic after slabbing, which I've seen happen with other collectors. I was just concerned that I paid for a 9.2 based on the grade, but that it's no longer that worth that grade. Would you say that's not a legitimate question?

I recognize that newb questions like mine can sometimes be annoying, but simply not commenting is free. Being nice and helpful (as you were to me) is of course much appreciated.

Yes it was directed to you AND a generalized notion of "research before buying".  People join to comment about the condition of a book in relation to its assigned grade and then disappear from the boards after only commenting in their own thread.

I'm sure a lot of sellers here have sold books to buyers who either A) didn't look at the pictures close enough or B) don't know enough about grading and then are unhappy when they receive the book which is no fault of the seller although the sellers have to then deal with those problems.  Everyone needs to start somewhere but i'm not sure "a complete newb" should be buying a 500+ graded book without being more familiar on the grading process or what is acceptable.  Do a lot more research on these boards and elsewhere before jumping into buying graded comics.  That is my 2c.

    Welcome to the boards.

  2. Unfortunately I've seen CGC do this upon grading.  I do not believe this is SCS (Shaken Comic Syndrome) and rather an encapsulation issue.  A couple of things to ask/consider:

    1. Was that shown in the picture when you bought the item?  If so, you might want to check closer before buying.  Do not buy and then be upset when it is exactly as shown in the picture

    2. If that damage wasn't shown then contact the seller

People need to realize this character is huge . High prices are being realized for special books that one day years from now will be some kids AF15. Bottom line. Prices will not come down on rarer versions .

I agree with the bolded statement for sure but can't say we know for sure if "prices will not come down on rarer versions".  As hard as we try, none of us have a comic price prediction magic ball.

There are videos online of people showing how to pop open the old cases.

Showing how to pop open cases and finding swapped books being sold is completely different.  Not saying it's never happened but it's not common by any means.

I finally decided to start getting some of my better comics graded vs buying graded books. With that said, I have been ripped a few times with the old cases. Some people were good at popping them open. Throw a 8.5 or 9 book in it and sell it as the 9.6. It was obvious when I received it something was wrong. Then I learned from the guy at the Vintage store what some people were doing. Send the good book in and get a 9.6 grade with a new slab. These new cases are supposedly harder to do that with.

    Proof of this?

Am I the only person that thought Season 8 was pretty good? And yes I've read the books.

No you aren't the only one.  Plenty of people thought it was OK while others loved it.  Of course there were some that hated it and the somewhat illogical flow.  I personally thought it was still great television and right up there with any other season in terms of production.  Was it the best season and did it the ending really justify the build up throughout all of the seasons?  Not really but I choose to instead focus on the individuality in the quality of the acting and each episode of the last season as opposed to the totality of the story from start to finish.  It is still my all time favorite show.

I'm hoping the prequel will actually release in 2022:

  7. Did the comic look exactly like this when you purchased it?  If so then that's on you as the buyer.  If the pictures didn't show this and that is what you received then return it.  The book has a miswrap, not a trim, as seen by the white margin on the left side which is why the barcode is cutoff.  That shouldn't affect the grading of the 9.6 (although personally I think it should) and it is a 9.6 not a 9.8 so any other minor flaws is what made is a 9.6.  Grading is subjective and some items are considered manufacturer defects which do not count against the grade.

Sounds like you might need to:

    1. do more research on grading and graded comics before buying another

    2. do more due diligence like asking for clearer pictures or checking them closer before buying

Welcome to the boards.  They are a great source for researching PRIOR to purchasing.

That's what I speculating but wanted to make sure. Yeah it's just to make a little money on the side. However, I have noticed that certain artists tend sell for more. Any particular artists that are easy to flip or always sell well?

It really all depends.  Check eBay sold listings to see which artists pop up often.  You have 3 posts and are asking for financial advice on flipping/selling comics.  Come back when you've done a bit more reading.

Well, it's hard to say how accurate those fair market values would be since they have the CGC 9.8 graded copies listed at $80K , whereas the last 3 sales actually took place in the $50K to $60K price range.

It doesn't look like they haven't updated the sales of the 9.8s from this year.  I don't think its a stretch though to say that the 7.0-8.0 that TMNT is looking for will fall between that 5750-7500 price which is why I even posted it.

  10. Hold onto them forever as those are goldmines that you can pass onto your kids.

Seriously, it all depends.  Why are you selling or why are you collecting?  If you are selling for profit then i'd say strike when the iron is hot and there is speculation around a particular character.  Even then, we as collectors have been wrong before.  I'm sure many thought "sure i'll sell a 9.8 Ultimate Fallout 4 because its $350 now!" and then it shot up to over a 1000 and has now settled a bit back down to the reality.  The reality is that no collectors actually know and we are all taking a gamble when we buy/sell.  Buy what you love and you won't have that problem.  If debating on selling, sell when you need the money the most or when you believe speculation is at its peak.  Buying a book for cover price and then selling for double or triple is still a profit.
