Was your first time difficult?
fiendish replied to Fixer7640's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
My first time was when I lived in L.A. I was able to hand-carry my books into a show and meet with a very nice staffer in the CGC booth. My second (and only other) time, I shipped from Texas. Everything went smoothly, but it was a much bigger (volume and $$$) order. I didn't sleep well until I got notification of delivery and proof of entry into their system. -

If you have a problem signing in...

Frustrating. I couldn't sign into the chat boards as me for three or four days. Using Chrome. Switched to Edge and had no problems. -

When you're selling comics via auction on eBay, do you think the timing of the auction's end matters? I've generally had the best luck (most bids) having auctions end between 9:00-11:00 Eastern on Sunday nights, but I was curious as to your thoughts and eager for your input.

Let's also remember that there was likely a rush in late April before the prices on some services went up. Looking at me. Guilty.

And now so will I.

This may be slightly OT, but earlier this year I listed a mid-grade Captain Britain #1 complete with mask for $200. I then got a direct message asking me would I sell just the mask and what would I charge. I told him "sure!" and $200.

Comics as an investment for retirement
fiendish replied to Mr.Fantastic's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I agree with this whole post, but wanted to quote the above for emphasis. "Don't get high on your own supply." It's been a lot easier for me to broker comics dispassionately in the digital era. My subscription to services like Marvel Unlimited or discrete purchases of individual digital issues has keep my inner nerd satisfied, while I'm able to move (and flip) inventory with few regrets of missing out on great stories or art. [I will confess to the occasional "goodbye" read on some mid-grade books that are hard to get digitally (like 80s indies).] -
Ordered! Thank you!

What good pulp documentaries have you seen or would you recommend? I'm a college professor who teaches a class on sci-fi, fantasy, and horror in media, and I have to do a LOT of heavy lifting when it comes to explaining what pulp magazines were and how important they were in popular culture in their heyday. I show photos of newsstands from back in the day, and my students are amazed at the sheer number of titles available for sale in any month. But they get tired of listening to me drone on, so I'd like to assign a film or video essay. I found a pretty good one on YouTube that focused on sci-fi pulps, then focused almost exclusively on L. Ron Hubbard, and...yeah. I'd prefer something more balanced. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations you might have.

Bought this (in the US) when it was new. Not happy about the sticker on the first N. Too afraid to try to remove it now. Eager for your thoughts, mates! (Wot, wot! Spit-spot! Bob’s your uncle! Say no more!)
