  1. I think it cleaned up real nice. Maybe a borderline 5.0 but it's not like a common silver age key in 5.0 where you can pick from 100 of them. in a heartbeat over my 3.5. Hard to believe the auction company was in such a rush to get the book to market without exploring the upgrade potential before all the Detectives on Detectives got the before pic.
  2. Oh man so sad to hear. I first met John back in 1984 when we would both sell comics at the Ambassador hotel in LA. He could take a stack of 200 randomly priced comic and zip through them in a heartbeat and give you the exact total. Thanks for all the great memories. Prayers for the family. I'll miss you John. RIP
  3. Clink TOS 39's sold 3/8/18 9.0 OW/W $49,777 this barely beat the Heritage 8.5 sold 2 weeks ago but still an increase on this book in 9.0 according to public sales. I remember clink selling a 9.0 2 or 3 years back for around $43K IIRC. 7.5 OW/W $17.900. Last 7.5 on GPA $13,700 11/17 4.0 $5200 Two other 4.5 have sold this year $4541 & $5350 2.0 CBS with small tape OW $2675 last 2.0 CGC in Jan 2017 sold $2650
  4. Price just went up on high grade copies. Will it maintain this pricing? Heritage just sold this 8.5 for $47,800 Tos 39
  5. Could be the reason the eBay 9.0 went from 45K to 57K all of a sudden. I feel TOS 39 was the next logical Marvel to make the jump in price. Now will it sustain this new value? We'll know soon as Clink has a 9.0 in current auction. Also I was watching the Tec 35 in 3.5. Seems the tape had a big impact obviously of the hammer price. Especially the amount of tape on back cover. Cap 1 3.5 was a solid price and the buyer will be very happy if he holds the comic for 5 years or more. Heck in this market maybe hold it 5 months.
  6. This has kinda been like watching grass grow but today is the day. Finally!
  7. Not sure I would drop out especially on a book I wanted that should clear the artificial reserve by a mile. I can't see this book tanking but it does seems some got nervous and put the reserve in. I guess HA expects these type comics to be bid to within 90% of sell price in couple days sit stagnant for 3 weeks then another flurry at the end.
  8. I did not know this. So sad to hear. I met Mike on a couple occasions in St Louis years back. Prayers for the family.
  9. Cap stumbled out of the gate instantly trailing Batman by 4-5 links. We still have yet hit the first turn and somehow Cap miraculously has nosed ahead of Batman. Pace yourselves guys. Remember this is a marathon (3+ weeks) and not a sprint. Will one comic grab the lead and hold it or are we in for a back and forth?
  10. If I were wanting an "affordable" Cap 1 this would make me happy. The chew is unfortunate but it seems with each page the damage is less and less. The back cover not affected at all. This is probably 5.0/5.5 without the chew.
  11. Cap has lesser page quality at Light Tan/OW pages so if Cap can finish within 10% of Bat 1 then books are basically same value I would think. I believe Bat 1 will exceed Cap by 30% when the smoke clears keeping the Dark Knight on top. Batman 1 Captain America 1
  12. My Tec 31 is a .5 and I'm very proud of it. Congrats on the win. and the way you were able to pay for it was a
  13. If you pay $30K for a comic last month or 10 years ago and sell it for $100K you should only owe tax on the $70K you made. Just be sure you can prove you paid $30K. Like Bob stated it should be treated as capital gain. Did you ask Alexa?
  14. I'm not a big Wonder Woman fan but I'll go see this for sure. I'm sure a lot of fanboys hope this gets R rating. One could imagine there are a lot of great movies that could be made on how super-heroes came to life.
  15. I would leave it alone. You could send it to a professional that restores and get his opinion on possibly removing it and what effects it would have on the comic. I feel advances over next few years in resto and un-resto will keep advancing that tape removal could be a simpler task where it is now difficult. Beautiful comic! Where did the 1.5 brittle sell at?
  16. Drew For 3 months between Jan and April I have one weekend that I'm committed to something and it's the weekend of this show. So no I will not be at this show. I will say this is the St Louis Comic show I recommend comic fans should attend. Very well promoted and a great selection of comics. Just comics! No booths that don't belong at a comic show.
  17. Very nice! We have some very talented artists on the boards and you can be included in that group.
  18. My favorite picture ever posted on the boards. It was my desktop background for a couple years. You should start a thread called Best of Bangzoom and post all the pics you have.
  19. Anyone else who still hangs up a calendar use a vintage one when they repeat? Way more cool I think. eBay is about out of these at the moment so if you have one to sell now would be the time.
  20. That book is sweet! I can see why it's your pride and joy.
  21. +1. Must be a low supply and high demand on these type funny books.
