  1. The Overstreet guide gives you a starting point. As for what stuff actually sells for, ebay sold listings.
  2. Sheena got to me over the weekend. I also think the Dave Stevens ish has a double cover...or so the second pic the seller listed suggests that. Either way I wanted it.
  3. I think it was stated in rules that many of these were double covers and that he was looking for the grade on the outside cover only...I could be wrong though..
  4. As a buyer, I dont get too worked up over prices. If I think it is too high, I dont pay. I like the deal. The thing with comics is, there is no set in stone price. No two copies of an issues are the same. One may be VF but not the page quality a collector wants while the other VF might have that page quality but minor visible imperfections. Depending on the day, one copy could outsell (by even a wide margin) the other. Average the prices you see. Put the best offer forward that you are happy with. If you are trying to make an offer with the intent of making profit yourself and selling, well that can be hard. You might be up against a guy or gal doing the same so their price may not move much. The desire for books is all over the place. Deals can be found with patience but there are a lot of people paying up because the demand is there.
  5. Sweet! Yeah I want to get to one soon. Are there comic deals to be had? I am not a big ticket hunter, I prefer the dollar or two or five boxes to pick up random goodness that I am missing from runs and what have you.
  6. Nice 6.0! I was a tad harsh, although I definitely saw the 6.0 potential. I will have to make sure I go with the higher side of my ranges when guessing for the upcoming contest.
  7. Spine wear and corner wear seem most apparent. 7.0-7.5 for me
  8. I think that crease is fairly heavy and it sucks because on a "normal" cover, it might blend nicer and not stand out. 4.0 might be the high side, I would safely say 3.5. The rest is too nice to warrant much lower. 3.5-4.0.
  9. Cool. Ive never been to a con. Sad, I know. And when I say that I mean a big noteworthy convention. The city where I live hosts a small one a couple times a year but there are never any comic guests. Just some independent artists and sellers of video games, retro junk and the occassional comics. Someday I will hit up Fan Expo or Motor City comic con as those are the two closest major cities that have them.
  10. As for the original question, McFarlane. He has branded himself well. At times, I feel like he comes across as a bit cocky but then again that is just me seeing him here and there. He does seem to have fun though with what he is doing. Personally, I also prefer his art and work more than Lee. Perhaps more so back in the 90's. Of those big three, McFarlane, Lee and Liefeld, McFarlane ranks tops. Followed by Lee, and if I have to read or endure it, Liefeld. Now there is a guy who doesn't do himself any favours and hasn't for a long time.
  11. I think he wants to make it better? And the toy biz is not a great biz, not like it was in the 90's and even into early 2000s. This article mentions it. https://www.superherohype.com/geek-culture/477995-todd-mcfarlane-to-remake-original-spawn-figures-with-kickstarter#/slide/1
  12. No he's test driving the car...but not by your standards. I attempted an analogy. Maybe it failed? My point is, while he puts pressure on that corner, the fold was already there. It was not manhandling nor was it the most cautious he could have been. I would have been fine with it, expecially given the lower grade. What he did would not make anything worse.
  13. Do creators respond to requests like that when signing in person? Like, if i wanted the signature on the inside page or even the back, are most likely to oblige? I like a good front signature, as long as it does not detract from the book and is placed with that in mind. I should think most creators would not sign somewhere that takes away from the cover.
  14. I would go GD-. I think the defects are too many and too severe for outright 2.0 but it could be close. It is a perfect low grader because I see no ugly tape and no ugly stains or other things that I personally despise. Very nice!
  15. Sometimes people talk about comics like they are going to wither away to dust if stored improperly. Thing is, bag and board and store upright in a cool, dry, dark place. That is it. Every decade or two (or somewhere in between), maybe replace boards. It's what I try to do. And if some of the bags look like there could be issues, replace too. For the most part, you can get bags and boards that hold up a long time and won't hurt the comics. What you don't want is lots of light constantly on them or humid temps. Major fluxes in temperature, if endured over time, can cause problems. I live in Northern Canada, so I know cold winters, humid summers and how you can go from a -10 degree day to a 5 degree day overnight. That kind of flux constantly can cause harm. As for grading, your books are really only protected from more human damage issues. Handling, potential to rip or tear, potential to stain. A book can still get worse if you leave a CGC comic in direct light or if you store in poor conditions. They are not waterproof or vaccum sealed so after 100 years, the paper can start to turn colour. The White pages label you received may no longer be so but again, that is a loooonnngg way away. Finally, about slabbing non key issues. Does it add value? Sure. But let's say you have a raw copy of a book that only costs $5. You likely are spending $40 to grade it. If it comes back anything but a high 9 grade (9.4-9.8), you are likely to have lost money. A CGC 8.0 might appeal to someone, but not for $40+, not when they can get it raw for $5. I would only ever recommend slabbing books of value or rarity or significance to you (maybe you just have a book you love and want it graded an encased). But in terms of it being a better storage method and preservation method, I would say no. I mean, I have copies worth $5 I maybe handle once every couple years. Could I rip a page reading or something? Sure. But its a $5 book. I would rather read it. And if, over the course of my life, it goes from being an 8.0 to a 7.0 because of time, I don't care.
  16. I thought the war started in earlier issues like 7 or 8? And it was in a few Avengers issues from around the same time frame. I guess that could be a reason but I dont think the other issues in that story arc get value. I guess it kind of culminates in this issue. So perhaps cover alone does not affect this one.
  17. If it gets less than 4.0, I will be shocked. If it gets 7.0 or higher I would also be shocked.
  18. Ooohhhhhh testing my skills for the grading compeitition. I will assume there are no hidden nasties inside. The spine has wear, staples look attached and I don't think there is a split. I would be comfortable 5.0-5.5, potentially 6.0 outright. I don't know if it can get much higher...
  19. Not to derail the thread but has there ever been an interview with anyone about this? And other "risque" or "innuendo" covers? Maybe back then minds were not as in the gutter? It would be interesting to know when a book like this gained collectability. Surely not instantly. Ditto for some Archie covers like the "beat off three guys" and "pearl necklace" covers.
  20. Heavy spine roll. 6.0-6.5. I would be slightly surprised at 7.0 and confused at 8.0. I do think this has press potential to get close to 8.0 though.
  21. You can buy a CGC 4.5 for around $400 (which is what, $530ish Canadian)? That is better graded than this raw. If he wanted to actually sell that book, should have had half that price on it.
