PGM Spook Suspense and Mystery 23
comicginger1789 replied to SuperApe's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I think 8.0 is too high given that back. 4.5 seems low. I will say a strong 6.0-6.5 only because it is hard to tell if there is staining on that back. It does look discoloured in general though. -
WOOD YOU PGM: RIFLEMAN #10
comicginger1789 replied to Philreal's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I have logged a number of hours grading. I feel like I might branch off from the majority here. I would have responded sooner, but I could not log in. And normally I would be laying down right now, for rest. But I don't want to leaf everyone in suspense as to what I think. My grade may not be too poplar here but I think the pen mark and spine wear, along with a crease on the back are the roots of the problem here. I don't think this will stump too many people....CGC 6.0 But again, the PEN IS the biggest issue here, condition wise. -
Turtlemania 1 Blue label or Green label?
comicginger1789 replied to Wadezky's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I have not met a collector who prefers green label over blue. Nor do I think the sigs are the reason this is 4.5. Keep as is -
PGM Avengers #44
comicginger1789 replied to Dick Pontoon's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It looks like there is the slightest tanning to it, it's not bright white, ya know. 7.0-7.5 from me but I feel like CGC grades these higher than I think. -
PGM Suspense 19
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks everyone! I bought it assuming 4.0 which I think seems about right. Mainly due to the blue stain, spine stain and mystery spots on the back. Either way its the first from this series I now own and I am excited to read -
7.0 upon first glance. The back is dirty and a weird stain mark along spine on back. I agree, could be as low as 6.0 Safely a 6.5 from me with 7.0 potential.

PGM Marvel Spotlight #28
comicginger1789 replied to OuterboroGuy's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
That spine is much too worn to warrant a 5.0 or higher IMO. 3.5-4.0 from me. CGC hammers that kinda wear on Bronze Agers that, for the most part. -
PGM Amazing Spider-Man 14
comicginger1789 replied to ivegotneatstuff's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I mean, I would give mad props to a presser who could do this without causing that top staple to pop. Basically, it is popped in my eyes. I would give it a 2.5-3.0. I wish I had a copy like this. -
CGC Getting Heat For Sups 1 Handling on FaceBk
comicginger1789 replied to jcjames's topic in Comics General
If you bought off the rack, it is conceivable that others handled it before you. If they did leave finger prints, i would complain. Also, they can be removed unless its like super greasy grime. -
Appreciate the thoughts!

CGC Getting Heat For Sups 1 Handling on FaceBk
comicginger1789 replied to jcjames's topic in Comics General
And having seen in a couple times, I agree. Especially if you are releasing such a vid to the public where you know there are people 10x more particular than needed watching. Whatever. They owned it with a good response about no gloves and how an experienced grader can handle with speed and care. But I do think adding pressure there could have been avoided just to please the masses. -
CGC Getting Heat For Sups 1 Handling on FaceBk
comicginger1789 replied to jcjames's topic in Comics General
I think it is upsetting people who have never seen them grade a book before, which to be honest, is a lot because do they show this kinda thing often? I also think it is offending people who have sent in what they thought were high grade books, intent on selling but they missed a small defect that CGC caught and blame them for the damage. Not saying they don't ever damage books but I'd be willing to bet that 9 out of 10 such complaints of people blaming CGC for something is because the person submitting never flipped through the book or just didn't catch a minor defect. Basically, those who saw this and their first thought upon seeing the book was "oh that is an expensive book, I bet it could sell for xxx amount" are the people most upset. Those who saw it and said "wow, what an epic book that guy is so lucky it came across his table" are likely to be of the camp that no real harm was done. -

Funny you should say that. Most finer dining restaurants use bare hands to toss salad and to plate food. I mean, you scoop and use tongs to get from pan to plate but then fingers to stack or make it look pretty on the plate. Don't believe me? Ask some to thank the chef at a fine restaurant or peek in...they don't wear gloves and are washing hands constantly through the night so you aren't gonna catch anything. -
Those books are incredibly awesome!

I would also not have removed. Bound volumes are neat oddities. -

The gloves complainers are wrong in my eyes. The mishandling of the pages. You could be slower and more careful. You could be much more flippant. Curling a page like that isn’t bad but I can see people a bit concerned with the address pressure on that crease. Either way I don’t think he’s devaluing it so I personally am ok with it. End of the day though, it seems CGC has upset more people than not. So definitely as @fastballspecial said it’s probably not a beneficial video at all. Probably woulda been best to not share and keep their handling of comics behind closed doors or at least show a little more detailed context with the expert (and perhaps even have him be gently so as to appeal to all those who might take issue). In the end, it might lose a few peoples business which is never good for a business. -

Water bottle is living dangerously even though lid is on it. Then again how many of us drink or leave an open drink next to the computer? Probably shouldn’t but doesn’t mean careless. Heres the reality. You have Grader guy A. He’s a bit old school been doing it forever and nails grades 99% of the time. However because he is maybe a little quicker he does cause small bit of damage, say 1 out of 1000 books. Then you have Grader guy B. Less experienced but knows his stuff. He is maybe a little more respectful in the eyes of the public. Sometimes he has gloves and takes a bit more time. But this costs him and whereas Grader A hits 1000 books in whatever timeframe, Grader B can only ever hit 700. But his grades are still almost as accurate and he rarely if ever causes any damage. The reality is both work for CGC and CGC would be smart to have both. You can’t have everyone in a workplace be exactly the same. You have the diversity that overall equals out and makes you successful. Until they find a way for robots to do it, this shall be. Expect errors on occasion. If Grader A slows down then people don’t get books back as quick, they aren’t ready in time for shows and they could lose money. If Grader A continues doing what he does, well there may be the chance a small tear, crease or fingerprint is seen once in a while. I just think it’s all relative to the hobby. My grades are not your grades. My practices are not yours. Doesn’t mean they are right or wrong or better or worse. It’s what works for those involved. And if it doesn’t and if CGC has a lot of these supposed problems then maybe a new leader in the field should emerge. Also I know I said Grader guy but my guy applies to males, females and all identities in between and beyond -

I have no issue with that handling. Suppose you own a classic sports car. And you wanna see how well it performs on the track. Are you really gonna tell professional racecar driver guy who does this for a living and has for a long time to “drive slow and be careful”!?! Granted, he could crash. Something could break on your car while he is driving. He could crash going quickly or slowly. But you paid him $50-100 to test your car and if he doesn’t do it the way you like then don’t bother paying him. -
ASM 129...Thoughts?
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks guys. Its a 3.0 by the way. I think it looks better and has 4.0 ish potential with press but maybe I’ll avoid.
