  1. I agree, some people post too much to advertise their store/etsy/whatever. And as mentioned, it is often stuff I have seen a million times before.
  2. I have only recently gotten into Golden Age books. It started with discovering LB Cole a decade ago. Then, I was in university so my comic budget was at an all time low but it did secure an affordable book. I left it at that until the last couple years when I started seeing how many amazing covers there were in all genres. So here I am now, of course, trying to secure books at a time when certain artists are getting more value than ever. Great for the hobby but hard for cheapos like me. That being said, I have told myself that if I find a book that appeals to me and the price is right, I am buying it. And I am shooting for at least 1-2 books per month. Here is this month's find. Never read Doll Man but for a cover with some bondage and a cool car, I could not say no.
  3. Ebay reaches the widest audience. As a buyer, you are always protected, which is why I do most of my buying on ebay. I find good deals and in my history of buying (15 years) I have had maybe 2-3 instances where I was unhappy. I never returned the item but the seller usually gave me a slight refund or in one case, refunded me fully and told me to keep the books. The problem with Ebay is that, as a seller, it can be hard. There are people who will be hellbent on nitpicking something to get a refund or try to force a return and cause problems. Luckily, I have encounters this again only 2-3 times in 15 years. But when it happens, it hurts. I sold a stack of Wolverine #1's back in the day and did not use tracking (was very early selling and was trying to keep prices lower to gain some selling power). Tracking was optional, buyer declined. Then he claimed he never got the books so I lost about $100). Since then, only a few issues where a partial refund sufficed. Instagram is a much more close knit community. There are people to beware of. I always ask for references if I am unsure. Generally, you can ask a few regulars on there about others and get an honest opinion. There are even hashtags to follow where various community members alert you to fraudulent people using Instagram. The deals are a little harder to find but you get good books. As a seller, I like it more. No complaints in 2 years of using it and I have saved on stupid Ebay fees which is great. Plus, it is great to look at other people's finds, network and learn about stuff and share your own purchases. Right now, it is my preferred method to sell. Sadly, there is no way (that I know of anyway) to "bump" an old post. So you have to copy it all and repost a new one if you are trying to sell something so that it appears again on someones post feed again and maybe catches a few more eyes. Facebook I have had no luck with. Maybe I am in the wrong groups?? If anyone can recommend a good one, I would love to join but generally for buying it seems everything is overpriced. I am sorry but if I can buy on ebay for $200 and am guaranteed safe, why would I pay $300 on a platform where I feel unprotected? Instagram has me feeling the same way sometimes buy you also see more books on Instagram that are obscure (and may not always pop up on Ebay....especially Golden Age books). As a seller on Facebook, I love the marketplace. It is a perfect way for me to sell off junk I dont want. Most of the time, I am selling stuff as a lot and for 50 cents to $1.50 per book so its a quick way to get cash and sell to locals who just want comics for cheap. Those are my experiences/opinions for anyone who cares
  4. I am not an expert but here is a theory. Batman was selling lower than one may want their franchise (or one of) hero to perform. Horror related comic sales were doing well. This was around the time many came about (Phantom Stranger, House of Mystery, Ghosts, Unexpected, etc.). As you mentioned, they wanted to distance themselves from the TV camp. So they focused on a darker Batman, oddball villains and one off stories. So many covers were dark and mysterious...216, 217, 220, 221, 224-227, 230, 236, 237 from Batman and many others from Detective (403, 405, 408, 409, 413-416 are some). The mood had to change and they established this before bringing back the classic villains. This works creatively because people had seen a shift in Batman's overall tone of his stories and now, could apply that thinking to his villains without viewing them comically like they were portrayed in the show.
  5. Yeah my grade was assuming blue label. Sans signature, I am at 8.0-8.5 I was saying if it were scribble it would go down. I don’t like trying to guess qualified or restored grades but if qualified my original grade would stand. Since it is Wrightsons sig, my guess also still stands
  6. The front seems solid but the back perplexed me. Mystery tanning/foxing has me wondering what it does to the grade as a whole.
  7. Well loved this one. Bottom staple is holding on for dear life. About a half inch spine split at bottom plus all the other live marks. Appreciate all opinions!
  8. Is it an actual signature from someone? 8.0-8.5 if it’s a random kid scribble it’s gone be lower. Mine eyes can’t tell who signed it
  9. Appreciate all thoughts! PS if this cover doesn’t get you intrigued in war related comics, I don’t know what would!
  10. You know what, I think you are right. I looked it over again. I am more in the 4.0-4.5 range after a second look.
  11. Some heavy tanning/discolouration to the back cover. Presents nice though. I will say 3.5-4.0 at best.
  12. That’s how I collect. Breaking even and getting a few “ free books” is the way to go!
  13. Another win. Most excited for the DC Super Spectacular Weird Mystery Tales cover by Wrightson. I am taking a bit of a gamble hoping for at least a solid VG book but for a lot of 39 comics that sold for a very reasonable amount, I cannot complain.
  14. I will third a guess of 9.4-9.6. Sweet book to have a double cover on.
  15. The spine is rough but I think it still looks sweet. 3.5-4.0 IMO.
  16. I liked affirmation. Plus I’m warning as the guy clearly posts in multiple areas.
  17. I said I had $50000 to spend. Then I said kidding, I’ve traced your user IP and told police where you are. Also advised him to get a life because currently in this one he is a piece of garbage. Harsh? Only if I’m wrong but I’m trusting my gut here.
  18. So here are two pics. The first One is a sold listing off eBay from recently. The second is the picture the guy sent me. I’m pretty much convinced this is a sham.
  19. Hi all, Not sure if there is a better place to post this but I encountered and as out of Grand Rapids Michigan selling an entire lifelong collection. I was intrigued by some books so I sent a message. I asked if they are selling the entire collection or if they would sell books separate. The response was weirdly worded and unclear. Basically guy said the collection was spread out with his grandchildren and he asked me to inquire about specific books. I inquired about a few (ASM 1, FF 1, Hulk 181 and a bunch of Golden Age Shock Suspenstories). He responds with and an amount for Hulk 181 and for the one Tales of the Crypt (the pic of Hulk 181 had looked around a 5.0 and the Tales of the Crypt maybe 1.5. He says I can pay for those two and send payment via PayPal to wesellcomix@gmail.com. If everything goes through and everyone happy he would proceed with giving me other prices on stuff (seemed kind of weird) So I go back to try and see the ad to just verify the pictures and condition and the ad was removed. I message him about this saying I was concerned and he said maybe it was because the ad was listed in Florida’s well. I asked for more pics of the books. He sends them. Now as files, they are labelled as “screenshots” which worries me. Plus the Tales of the Crypt 44 are clearly two different books.I tell him this and he replies he thought he gave me both prices as he has two copies. Says he has been busy with replies. Should I be concerned here? Is this a potential fraud or am I paranoid?
