9.4-9.6. There is 9.8 potential on this one but to be safe, I avoid believing 9.8's exist. CGC always finds something wrong
-
^Same Those scuff marks would keep it from 9.8 for sure. 9.0 range is where I am at. Again, not a super valuable book but if you want it grade because you love it, go for it!

comicginger1789 replied to Math Teacher's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

PGM Action Comics 242
comicginger1789 replied to AnkurJ's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I think VG/Fine is a bit high. I also think 3.0-3.5 is on the low end. I feel 4.0 is deserved here. -
PGM Blue Bolt Weird Tales 118 Grade is Posted
comicginger1789 replied to X_Phile's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I think a 7.0 is the mark, maybe even 7.5. Edges are worn here and there. More pics of the book would help. It makes me happy every time an LB Cole cover is sent to be preserved. -
I mean, don't get me wrong, I wish you were my CGC grader I would walk out like a bandit on some stuff. Just do what I do when I lay en egg grading and blame it on the your phone. No word of a lie, I bought a book on ebay and only viewed the image on my phone. Looked to be VF. When I got home, I viewed my purchase on the computer and was like "uh oh, I overpaid on that...that is definitely a tape pull I did not notice...and a small stain...and spine ticks."
-
I don't want to sound harsh but I think 7.5 is outta the question. Find me one 7.0-7.5 book with that amount of spine wear and I will happily admit defeat. That top staple looks like it could pop. Multiple spine ticks and moderate damage to a section of the spine. Back cover displays a stain mark on spine near bottom staple, as well as stain marks near bottom, although faint. I am thinking 4.5-5.0. Still a great book with value worth slabbing
-
I will also say 2.0-2.5.
-
To dirty on the back cover for a high 7. I am more in the 6.5 ballpark.

PGM: SUBMARINER #1

5.5-6.0. That stain though ugh. I generally dislike stains on my comics (that and popped staples/centrefolds) are my most hated flaws. That being said, I have some similar books with similar stains in corners or small spots on the back that I give a pass to because the books look great otherwise. -
I am somewhere in the 5.5-6.0 range. Lots of minor things to nitpick but overall, a fantastic copy. Congrats!

As a big Spidey fan also, it’s ok. A step back though for me. I thought the way they introduced Spidey in Civil War was great. I thought his first solo film was very good. This latest addition I think wasted a good character in Mysterio with a poor plot that ultimately did nothing. I mean it does something but now we are at least 4-5 years from finding out what the effects of that something are

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
comicginger1789 replied to Kimberlyn08's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Hi! Great gift! The first issue from this story will say First printing on the inside cover in the fine print somewhere. If it is second or third printing it will also notify you. The same applies for issues 3 and 4 of this story. Issue 2 is the weird one where you have to pay attention to the colour of the inside cover. I believe the first printings are determined by the shade of grey on the inside cover. There are a couple of YouTube videos if you search it for a visual. -
Silver age comics that are heating up
comicginger1789 replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Avengers 43 seems to be heating up. Raws over a month ago were $20-30 in the VG/Fine range. Now they seem to be pushing $60-90 A CGC 9.2 sold a few days ago for $400...now asking prices of 9.2's on Ebay are $1700 A CGC 9.0 sold in June for $212.50....one sold two days ago for $975 A CGC 8.0 sold in May for around $130...bids on one currently with 6 days left are already at $202 Appears to be getting some love due to the characters upcoming appearance. -
This next phase is filled with intrigue. Lots of minor or lower level characters getting a chance here. Plus, an animated What If series voiced by all the big guns?! Epic! I am hoping this to be a combo of What If moments from the MCU and maybe a few adaptations of original What If comics. Should be fun. With the intrigue though, comes much concern. Because this phase features many of the lower characters, the general population might drift away from Marvel. I can guarantee 95% or more do not know who Shang Chi is, or the Eternals. All the more kudos though to be given if Fiege can make them successful. I believe they can. We are at 23 films already, and really only Iron Man 3 stands out as a dud. The rest, while varying from epic and amazing to just decent flicks have at least been that. Finally, let me make some not-so-bold predictions for this phase -Beta Ray Bill comes to fruition! I predict in the Thor flick - Black Knight will appear! Either in WandaVision or Doctor Strange's flick - Modok will appear! Likely in Cap/Falcon -Nightmare is the main Dr Strange villain (along with Mordo) - WandaVision will be the worst thing from this phase. - We get to see Fin Fang Foom

Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
comicginger1789 replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Moon Knight 25 seems to sell well if and when it pops up. Not sure why... first appearance of Black Spectre but I am unaware of any MK news. It is a sweet cover from a sweet run. Glad I scored the run last summer at a yard sale. -
PGM Startling Comics #31
comicginger1789 replied to whetteon's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
5.5 for me. Seems the sun has tanned or discoloured it a bit and I think CGC would bump it down for that -
I am also at 4.0 at least. Wonder what bumped it down so much??
-
I will say 5.0 as is. Maybe a press and clean gets you to lower Fine territory. As for what you paid, well it may be a smidge more than one might want. Mind you, I am someone who believes this book can still be found in back boxes for under $20 in FN/VF shape so that is what I am holding out for. Might be a pipe dream but my brain is living in past 10 years ago, thinking of this book still as $10 at best.

Black Light History of L B Cole. All his covers are on the book vibrant and a truly great coffee table book to flip through

PGM Tomb of Dracula #10
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I’m gonna hopefully see it in person in three weeks. If it’s 5.0 or better I will pull the trigger. If I get some pics in meantime I will post here. He can’t guarantee he won’t sell in meantime but thankfully he in a region where there not many huge collectors so it should stick around in time for me to view it -
Not a bad garage sale find! That bottom left corner though looks worn. Is it split at all? I’ll safely say 6.0-6.5 with a press maybe helping bump to a 7.0 range.

Mister Mystery 16 been a while
comicginger1789 replied to Comicdey's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I’m at 5.0-5.5. I’d like to see it hit Fine but that tear/pull through on the front cover is very apparent.
