  1. I've recently come to the hard decision to sell most, if not all my small collection of high grade Amazing Spideys. I've decided to build a war chest in an attempt to obtain my ultimate grail, AF #15 and really want a good try for the best I can find. A good preview is my sig line. The lowest grade will be CGC 9.2 and will include some pedigrees ( 2 - Northlands and 1 Pacific Coast Dective Comics). If all goes well with me getting home early tomorrow (Thursday), and getting up all my scans, I plan to list them all tomorrow afternoon/evening (PST). I have never set up a kudos thread for myself, but have been more active on the board the last year or so and have dealt several times with Rube11, Roy (r1970d), Peter Loves Gwen, Spideyinacase, etc. I also had a fairly successful sales thread mid/late last year and had some nice dealings with several others from the boards. I've been buying/selling (mostly buying lately) on eBay for many years, ID= gymj22, with 100% feedback. Hope to see some good interest and hope you all check it out tomorrow (hopefully; Friday at the latest). Thanks!
  2. Thank you. I forgot how nervous I used to get opening the CGC box, but then to see the grade and no purple . . . . . big relief.
  3. Here's one I got back the other day from CGC. I bought it raw from Roy a little while back. It was the first raw book I've bought in many, many years. I bought it as a 9.0/9.2 so it worked out pretty well.
  4. Looks like it. That's too funny. I knew about the Peter Palmer, but never knew about this one.
  5. Here are the 2 newest additions to my collection this last week. The ASM #42 was a CL win off a tracking bid (I wasn't really fully committed to buying a copy just yet, but happy with it nonetheless ) The #15 was one I've always wanted to have, but figured I'd settle on a sharp #34 instead (for my early Kraven cover), but then I figured "it's almost Christmas . . .and I've been good this year!" Unfortunately I couldn't get rid of all the glare in my scans.
  6. Well . . . .having sold you MY #12 and then having you win that #11 when, through my own fault, I didn't even get a bid in on it . . . . .I'd say those 2 are pretty well burned into memory. Your collection is coming along pretty nicely BTW.
  7. Only one problem . . .#11 and #12 are switched. Of course I'm nitpicking 'cuz I'm envious.
  8. I wish my mailman dropped off stuff like that for me. Real nice copy!
  9. I would have to agree. There was recently a thread on that and that was the general consensus. Something about all that yellow takes the stigma out of the bit of purple. And it is kind of ironic, as another poster in that thread pointed out, to ding a book for color touch when someone has taken a marker to the front cover to sign it... So, I'm thinking . . . we gotta have Stan "the Man" sign along the spines of our books.
  10. In my limited time here, I have both bought a book off Don, and sold him 2 HG Spideys. Always quick, easy transactions and good to talk with. (thumbs u
  11. Thanks! Yeah, it's a great story. And I did see those Don. The 9.4 will probably go for more than I want to pay. I was thinking of a 9.2 as well, or a nice 9.0. The 9.0 in the CL auction unfortunately suffers from that typical miswrap . . .I'm not too much into the "OP RT oductions." If I get a 9.0, I want one nicely centered. I was very tempted by the Fire Mountain 9.0 that recently sold on feebay . .but just wasn't ready to pull the trigger on one.
  12. Speaking of some tougher ASMs to find well-centered, I just got this beauty from Steve (Rube11) today. Since recently buying a raw NM range #32 and this one last week, I'm gonna have to get a nice #31 as well to complete the 3 part story . . . oh darn.
  13. Don't you already have a bunch of books to send to CGC?
  14. That's a beautiful copy . . . definitely presents well! Just out of curiosity, where did you find your copy? Scouring the internet, like I often do; at a show; private sale . . . .? I haven't been to a show in many years. I'm hoping to go to WonderCon and San Diego next year . . I may have to wait 'til one of those before I find the copy of ASM #1 or AF #15 I've been looking for. Until then, I'll just stay envious.
  15. I don't have too much experience on these boards . . . figure most don't know me. But, I bought an ASM #66 9.4 from him a little while back (my first purchase on the boards) for a great price; the book was real sharp, had excellent packaging with great communication. Thanks again, Steve!
  16. Funny thing. . . after writing that above, I happened to click on my Spidey collection just to take a peek again and noticed I don't actually have that many 9.2s anymore . . .more 9.4s and 9.6s. I actually have been reshuffling my books lately and "just happen" to have liquidated some of my 9.2s to get other more expensive 9.2s or 9.4s. One exception I'll admit to though is with more modern books in my collection, like #200+, as cheap as they are . . for a bit more money, that super cheap 9.2 can be a cheap 9.4 or a fairly cheap 9.6 so I figured why not. I can see how I can sure get myself into trouble thinkin' like that though.
  17. I tend to follow this thinking as well with my small collection of Spidey's. The main goal of my collection is not to eventually complete a whole or a consecutive issue run, but I am trying to limit my books to only early (or as early as I can afford) high grade cover appearances of my favorite Spidey villains. I have always been mesmerized by finding these old books in nice condition, as if they were recently on the rack. Many years ago, I decided the 9.2 range was a happy medium between that fresh new look I liked, and as you said, a grade below where typically the money gets crazy. I recently found a couple key appearances that I have always wanted to have, and that are hard to find, and consider it spoiling myself to pay a bit of a premium for the 9.4 vs 9.2. Ultimately, trying to stay in that range, another facet of my collection is even in almost exclusively looking for 9.2s, I also try to get them with as near perfect centering and with clean, mark-free/stamp-free covers (just my personal twist). The money side doesn't really come into it for me, other than my budget/limit for what I want to spend at that time for that book. The example of the #33 as a 9.4 would likely not be a big deal as you mentioned (there are plenty 9.2+), but I would rather get the 9.2 in that on the cheap, as long as its eye appeal fit in with my other books. In that case I just don't want to spend any extra money on a higher grade. If I look long/hard enough I know I will find a real nice, clean, sharp 9.2. And once I start getting a few extra books beyond my main theme, I'll be more than happy with my cheapy 9.2 #33.
  18. Thanks Tom. That is/was a beautiful 9.2 you got there! Congrats to both of you.
  19. Yeah, I've actually been looking for a nice 9.2 for a long while now, but when I came across this one I couldn't pass on it.
  20. Thanks Don! I was pretty excited to grab it and even more once I unpacked it. It has some very nice colors.
  21. As I have been getting back into things lately and slowly building my Spidey collection again, I scored this recently from a boardie and just got it in the mail today. I have always liked those dynamic, Romita's covers. Unfortunately, I couldn't get rid of all the glare.
  22. Interesting, I'll have to read that thread, or look through this thread better then. I can see that this cover does look and feel a bit different than the other early covers and possibly being a rush job seems to make sense.
  23. Swiping one of the books in the new CL auction, I noticed the newer CGC label lists the cover by Ditko/Kirby. Though right now, that's all I have to go by. Seems like there may be some story behind it then that someone hopefully has more info on. Otherwise, looks like I'm gonna have to try to do a lot more diggin or it's gonna bug me now.
  24. I was recently skimming through an Official Marvel Index to Amazing Spider-Man and I noticed the back cover was a reprint of an alternate (unused) cover for ASM #10 by Ditko. I was just curious if anyone had any background as to why Ditko's cover wasn't used, in favor of the Ditko/Kirby cover. Are there many other known "unused" covers for the rest of the early issues? Personally, I kinda liked the alternate Ditko cover for #10 better than what was used . . . ASM #10 has always been one of my least favorite covers of the early run. Alternate "Ditko" cover: The one everyone knows well:
