I called CGC today and they told me they are currently opening and inventorying packages that were received on October 5th due to a significant backlog of received mail.

Are the days of hyper masculine movies over?
PickleRick1216 replied to Xenosmilus's topic in The Movie Forum
Yes on Mt. Yonah. I think we did repelling and mountain rescue training there. There are three phases of Ranger school. The first is at Camp Darby in Fort Benning where you learn the principles of patrolling and then you move to north Georgia for mountain phase in the Dahlonega region. Next you do an airborne jump from Georgia into Eglin Air Force Base in the panhandle region of Florida for jungle phase. I was amazed that nobody got bitten by snakes or gators with all of the swamp movements that we did. We did have several people injured from lightning strikes and heat injuries though. They had to shut down training one day because they ran out of ambulances from evacuating heat injuries. -
Are the days of hyper masculine movies over?

I am active duty Army currently and I was really disappointed that the drill sergeants didn't swear at us and hit us in the chest like in the movies. The first time they called someone hero, warrior and/or joker I laughed and drew their "wrath" but it was largely forgettable. Ranger school was more difficult but they still weren't allowed to swear at us and this was in 2006. -
I picked up this ASM 34 9.0 OWW on eBay and the seller mentioned that he sent it in to be graded back when CGC was in New Jersey and it might be worth submitting for a regrade. Has anyone received a higher grade on an older slab when they regraded? Anyone received a lower grade? I am interested in your experiences.

Thanks for this update. My modern and value shipments were received by CCS on 8/26 so I guess I have seven days until SFG.

I have a value and modern tier shipment in CCS right now that were both received on 6/25. I called today and they told me they should both move to grading in 2-3 weeks and then ship 2-3 weeks after that. Based on that they should ship late September so I would guess that yours would ship early October.

How do you insure your expensive packages?
PickleRick1216 replied to milk_man's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
It is also important to research how and if people are successful at filing insurance claims with the method you select. Most carriers will be happy to take your money for insurance but if it is impossible to succeed in filing a claim it may not be worth buying it. Are you looking at insuring raw books or slabs? I wouldn't bother insuring raw books because you will be unable to prove the fair market value due to uncertain grades. I know first hand there is a higher chance for getting a claim on a slabbed book with USPS for a damage claim than a lost package claim. There are plenty of posts on here of people who were successful or unsuccessful at filing insurance claims. What kind of packages are you asking about? -
Depending on the number of books in each tier the difference in shipping prices can be pretty significant so make sure you price each of them out. I had a two book reholder order and I think FEDex was $15 but USPS was $30. Typically FEDex and UPS are cheaper for smaller size shipments than USPS but they only insure up to $100. These days UPS and FEDex seem too be faster than USPS as well.

What a punch in the bread basket. I hope you can file an insurance claim with UPS to get it reholdered. If so, dont forget to include the shipping costs both ways, the invoice fee and all other charges in your claim.
