  1. was I serious, or was I not? If the Tec wins, I was kidding. If there is a tie, I was not
  2. So......my last match up was a blowout, 'eh? You think I'm losing my touch for matching up 2 equally desirable books?.....think again! Both sold for approx. $6,400 in 2008. Which one would you choose, and why?
  3. Both sold for exactly $5,676 in 2008......... Which one would you choose, and why?
  4. After reading all the responses within this thread, I would also say that Superman 14 has shown signs of being the best representation of the GA. The book has: 1. Superman cover 2. Superhero theme 3. Patriotic cover 4. Classic Cover 5. standard GA size / 2 staple / 4 color etc. etc. 6. art representative of the era yeah, I believe Supes 14 would get my vote ( and a very objective vote at that, as I do not own a copy )
  5. The year was 2005 ( sounds retro already, doesn't it? ) and the price was $6,900. Which one would you choose, and why?
  6. Hey...my old "coffee can" copy.... glad you still own it, Mike (thumbs u it sure is purty Steve
  7. You are writing an article for USA Today about comic books, and 3 million people will see it ---- and 2,999,080 of them know nothing about comic books, but have heard of them of course, and only know they exist. You are defining the "ages", and the Golden Age has to be referenced, with 1 comic pictured and written about in your article........... (perhaps this should have been in my original post ) PS ---you're the Man, Dan......Bedrock has told me so about 6+ months ago, so I am a big fan now (thumbs u
  8. I have to agree with this - the typical comic book of 1943 looked nothing like the typical comic book of 1953 - even when the genre is unchanged. I agree....but that's what should / could make this so interesting. All the Genre's that made up the GA, and you have to pick the 1 book that best represents the entire Era.
  9. This idea came up in another thread -- seemed worthy of its own. (Kinda like when Joanie Loves Chachi spun off from Happy Days ) So, with the time frame including the Atom Age, 1938 - 1955 ( makes it tougher to pick ), which book would you say epitomizes the single best representation of the entire Golden Age of Comics, and why???
  10. Bob! You're cruising for a bruising with that reckless kind of talk I agree with Bob! You two are both obviously delusional In a way, I have to agree with Ciorac on this one. A couple of years ago Vince Z. from Metropolis gave his market report in the OPG. He mentioned that Metro had sold quite a few copies that year...something like 16 copies. He said that the high number of sales they had was not because the book was common, but because he really "believes" in the book, so gets his hands on a copy when ever he can. My point is, I agree with Vince...I "believe' in Batman #1, and view it as a huge Key of the Golden Age, and love every little bit of pulp in its 1940 body
  11. Both sold for approx. $52,000 2-ish years ago. Which Bat would you choose, and why?
  12. ohhhh, as in Captain Morgan? (said as I sip vodka and Sprite! ) ha! wish I was drinking. Stopped drinking during weekdays, training for another marathon I'm training for a marathon also --- see how quick I can inihilate my liver
  13. OK...let's get back to GA vs.GA Both sold for approx. $12k. The CDNP is the Mile High Copy, graded at NM- / unrestored. (by Heritage --- for me, an NM- can't have a tear at the top of the spine ) Which non-Superhero book for $12,000 would you choose, and why?
  14. ohhhh, as in Captain Morgan? (said as I sip vodka and Sprite! )
  15. Both sold in the $150,000-$160,000 range. Which one would you choose, and why?
  16. Both sold for approx $59,000 within the past year or so. Which one would you choose, and why?
  17. Hey Ciorac, is your All-Star #3 in the pic the Detroit Trolley copy?
  18. Let's have a special Christmas Eve "which one would you choose?".....it requires a little imagination to get 2 books to be of the same value, but I think my logic will get you there. The Mile High Flash sold for $273,000 in 2006, and the AF15 sold for $227,000 last year. ( If I remember correctly...may have been early this year??) Anyway, based on the "1 of 1" status of the Mile High Flash, and the unbelievable hotness of AF15, I think if both went to auction next month, a $300,000 sales price for each would be reasonable. So, with $300,000 of your cash on the line, which one would you choose, and why?
  19. One of the closest contests in a while.......at this moment, there have been 19 votes cast, and here's how we look ( to my suprise, might I add ) Tec 27 - 10 votes Adven 40 - 9 votes
  20. (tsk) .............just like Richard Evans, you MUST choose. If not, my back will be against the wall, and I'll have to notify the Mods
  21. So.....Tec 27 at any cost, eh? I would take that Adventure 40 so quick over this mauled and tormented Tec 27, you wouldn't even know what happened. and that's what makes this thread ( humbly speaking ) so great
  22. Looks like we have a good match-up here ( finally ) 3 votes - Tec 3 votes - Adventure
  23. Both sold for $35,850 this year. which one / why?
  24. Both sold for $28,000 which one would you choose, and why?
