  1. yah, my guess is that a complete cover would go for about a grand...
  2. Cool Mike. I didn't know you had an incomplete MM9 I was talking to a collector last week and he told me he found a FC/BC for MM9 at a random collectibles store years ago...sold it for $300---wonder what a "cover only" MM9 would fetch today??? I couldn't resisit the exciting last page. I could use that cover. where did you pick up that copy Mike?
  3. HT 8 is one book that really pops when a big scan is presented (thumbs u

  5. I know it is referred to as the "Poor Mans" MMC #9, but I like to think of it as the "Smart Mans" MMC #9...it's just a better cover, for a tenth of the price (thumbs u Jim right Jim--you get quite a cover for a lot less the price. Plus you can actually find HT 8's around for sale more often But MMC has the coolest splash page Yeah, true...the CF on the HT 8 is pretty cool though...

  7. You know I am in the MM9 camp (thumbs u Both great books. Thanks Roy. Perhaps we need to start a poll thread on which is the "all-time favorite Torch vs. Subby battle cover?" MM #9 HT #8 HT #4(5) I can't think of anymore battle covers...
  8. the spread is right...MM9 was the first battle between two super heroes--far more significant than HT8..I still think Marvel 9 is under valued in the guide. but the market is actually bearing real value prices...it should have guide prices closest to Tec 29,31,33 and Action 7 IMO...Subby 1 and HT 2(#1) are over priced in the guide that 4.5 HT8 was nice Jeff
  9. Strong statement Scrooge! Torch 8 is a great Timely to own. I owned my first copy in '96 and have always loved the cover--best cover in the entire Torch run (yes, better than #12 IMO)....I still like the MM9 cover better--it's just more classic and looks more 30s/40s like. Only thing on the Torch 8---I never really digged the "anti-flame" gun Subby's holding...Schomburg should have drawn them in hand to hand combat (thumbs u Anti-flame gun or not, it's still one kick- battle. I like the perspective better, which allows us to have a good view of the bridge (where they confront inside), the warships under it, AND the cityscape in the background. To me, it makes for a better cover. Yes, that on "top of the bridge" perspective is really cool..I think it's the George Washington Bridge in NYC in the story....I like the bordering on the left side of the MM9 for some reason and Subby's "huge" muscles

  11. Finally got a slight upgrade on this book. The "poor man's" Marvel Mystery 9 if you will (thumbs u This cover really "hits" you--if you know what I mean.
  12. Cool book and story (thumbs u But there was no mention of Cap, Torch and the gang in the historical account. Wonder why? Every source, unfortunately, has omitted the valiant efforts of the Timely big 3 for some reason Bill
  13. I got this today from a local collector in a trade deal. It's nice to do deals locally and in person (thumbs u It's not one of the tougher issues to find in the run IMO, but it's the first time I've owned it. There is some historical significant of this Schomburg cover: the German Battle ship "Scharnhorst" is labeled here on the cover. I did a search and found out that it was a famous German battleship that was sunk by Allied Forces in December 1943. The publishing date happens to be Fall 1943 on this one. Enjoy! -Ben http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_battlecruiser_Scharnhorst
  14. Who wouldn't want one??? NICE pick up, one of the all time greats, hands down. Wonderful looking copy. Nice, I'm very envious. A grail for me for sure. Congratulations. Nice Cap 1 Ed! Congrats
  15. only if they fall in my lap...prices are too strong right now.... You have only yourself to blame for that.... You guys ruined them for us small fry!! hopefully we can move outta the "fries" section and start chopping lettuce...in a year or two we make assistant manager--and that's when the big books start rolling in... Name that movie...
  16. well, this little old lady called me up and wanted me to look at a comic book she found in her attic mixed in with some old Saturday Evening posts... so, I said I didn't really have the time to look at an old comic with batman on the cover (she said "the bat guy") but that if she wanted to drag her old lazy bones out to me, I would look at it... she said she was desperate for money (I knew I had her then) and told me she needed $154 to pay her utility bill, or they would cut off her heat (it got down to 81 last night...brrr)...so, I did what any reasonable person would do, I offered her $50 and a box of centrum...she agreed... Rick is too faithful a man to short the lady..if the ole lady needed $154, he would have given her $1154 ---in return for the Tec 27 (thumbs u
  17. Supes 1 More popular character from generation to generation. Cooler character. Although, the AA16 and GL is still cool, but I am just answering Steve's question
  18. Suspense 3 Although the Church pedigree is nice...Tec 19 is not a Pre-Bat Tec I'd want...a #8 or #18 Church would give the Suspense 3 more competition...
  19. What books do you/would you hold onto Peter?
  20. not a Key book, but a Penn copy...label got cut off... All Select #2 CGC 9.4 o/w
