WTB KIRBY FF PAGES WITH DR DOOM & CAP TOS
Primetime replied to Bunky Brian's topic in Original Comic Art Marketplace
Jerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry.... -
It just means it has some big splits where the paper is separating and that’s where tape was likely applied on the interior to keep it together. This is a great example of a technically low grade book with inner spine defects but not too many significant, glaring wear and tear defects to ruin the eye appeal.
-
Great, thanks. The large spine split and weak spine explains the grade. It looks great, nonetheless, in the slab, thankfully. Congrats to the new owner.

I’m wondering what the notes were to prevent it from garnering a higher grade? Is that color touch that was scraped from the upper left? This copy had superior eye appeal compared to the 2.5 that sold for a little less on CLINK not too long ago. The price point on this 2.0 was a better deal than the rat chewed 4.0 that keeps coming up for auction.

Certainly, the reports offer unbiased opinions with some advisors. But, I can certainly see pumping up one’s favorites, spec books, or hopeful markets. I always favor writing/reading about the historical aspects of the hobby, but it is a price guide so it’s always going to be filled with googling numbers.
-
Agreed, Sean. The scale somewhat slides as the 2.0 price is the “Real world” 1.0 price to some extent. I think Bob has felt the pressures of raising the prices like Cap 1 to help make it look more reasonable with true FMV. I’ve always mentioned that AA16 probably needs to drop down a bit relative to overall power rankings for golden age. But, considering the rarity of AA16 and not trading hands too often publicly, It has maintained a top 5 status for years. Certainly, it should not be ranked ahead of Marvel 1, Bat 1, or Cap 1 in today’s market. AA16 is a cool book nonetheless.

Overstreet agrees...just waiting for CGC to note on their labels....also waiting for CGC to note "1st round shield" on their Cap #2 labels, but that's another issue.

1939 NEWSSTAND PIC TIME MACHINE JOURNEY INTO THE PAST
Primetime replied to ajaxfarrell's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Very likely it was Christmas 1962 since Spidey 1 was on the stands 12-10-62 then again, the kid’s birthday could have been in December too I checked the GI joe toy online and it is 1966. That would appear to be a 1966 GRR Spidey 1 then based on years. It certainly looks like there is a price bubble in the upper left corner and would eliminate it from being a GRR. It may even be a UK version from ‘62. It does appear the kid was gifted the comic and toy at the same time. What a great feeling -

I've been a fan of the OSPG since 1983. It was ground breaking and vital for pricing all books until the internet/CGC changed the game. The guide is still a good resource to price non keys and bulk runs. The data on keys is, naturally, not current, but I have noticed on price listings for some keys that the 2.0 guide price can be pretty close to the "current" entry level 1.0 CGC price. For the new collector, I feel it is still a solid "in hand" reference. I see some dealers (like Harley Yee) still using the guide to help price raw non keys and semi-keys at shows. The market reports, experiences, and observations from the dealers, collectors, and historians are still a treat to read. Clark, I'd would agree that the Gold forum would be a more sensible place for this thread as I suspect the Water cooler would be filled with a majority of newer collectors (lets say last 10 years) that probably never referenced the OSPG to begin with.

The first ten Caps have always been somewhat easy for me to locate. I would say the 26-34 range are tougher than the earlier issues. Then the later issues (after issue 70) can be challenging. Overall, I don't think any of the Caps are tough at all. The All Selects, USAs, and All Winners are much tougher than the Cap run overall. -
