  1. certainly one of the most common ads on a golden age comic. The dept codes on the coupon are always different (unless it's from a Cap1 or Mystic 5 which match).
  2. good one. I prefer having two knights sometimes; the duo can wreck havoc.
  3. awesome, I can hoard them meantime while the the best in the run gets overlooked
  4. amazing you get less frequent requests for Marvel Mystery 4,5,9, Cap 2, and All Select 2.
  5. a CGC .5 missing four CFs sold in March for $39,500 which was pretty strong.
  6. As much as I'd think it should go $90k+, I think this is the range it will actually fall in.
  7. I left 10 out, but I have always liked the 8-7-10 progression that their covers show. I will say that I included 3 books on my list because I felt they deserved to be on the list and not because I necessarily like them.
  8. Wheeler was in a lot of debt, so Harry Donenfeld purchased the D.C. rights from him for $19.7k in 1938. Lloyd Jacquet bailed and started Funnies, Inc. Victor Fox left as well to start FOX. I'm sure O'Mealia and Flanagan were free lancers and just trying to find paid work like every other artist at that time. Donenfeld was certainly in the driver's seat when he acquired All American Comics from Max Gaines in 1944 for $50k. I believe this is when we started seeing the "National/DC" slug logo on comics.
  9. if it took 80+ years for the rust to get that way, it certainly won't worsen (unless one is using poor storage conditions) over the course of the owner owning it for the rest of their life. That said, unlike vintage cars or bikes, where performance and clean metal is ideal for showmanship, some people don't mind a little rusty gold parts on their vintage comics. I'm not saying buying comics with rusty staples is ideal, but a little rust on the outside of the staple isn't a deal breaker on rare gold. When the rust migrates to the prongs (@ CF) and interior paper, that could pose a larger issue for any owner.
  10. I think that sticker is from a package that was sent over seas (either to the States or another country). The soldier unwrapped the package and stuck that sticker on the All Star that was around.
  11. It is a sub crease, but just might not have been due to mail order I know comics were mailed in 1940, but I think laid flat, in envelopes.
  12. Here's my somewhat biased top 20 (give or take) in alphabetical order. I won't bother ranking them. Just know that Marvel Comics 1 is at the top of the list. All Select 1 All Select 2 All Winners 19 Cap 1 Cap 2 Cap 3 Daring Mystery 1 Daring Mystery 4 Human Torch 2(1) Human Torch 8 Marvel Comics 1 (Greatest comic book ever published) Marvel Mystery 4 Marvel Mystery 5 Marvel Mystery 9 MPFW 1 (not a Timely, but it makes my list nonetheless for an obvious reason) Mystic 4 Red Raven 1 Sub-Mariner 1 USA 7 USA 8
  13. well, even if this particular copy of Bat 1 wasn't actually "mailed out and folded in half" as a subscription copy, who's to say the original purchaser didn't buy it from a corner newsstand, folded the book in half, stuck it in their butt pocket, and rode off on their bicycle?
