  1. When I started collecting comics again about 4 years ago, I said Paul just focus on Silver age Marvel, and DC's Showcase title. Keep my interests small in hopes of completing nice full silver age runs. Quickly that expanded into a few more DC titles and most early bronze and all bronze keys.

When last year I decided after completing 95% of my marvel, and huge chunks of DC at least keys and short and or early runs, to collect GA Timely's, I thought cool I can stay focused on these few titles. Captain America, MMC, All Select, All Winners, and all GA Cap books. That should be more than enough to keep me busy for the next 20 years. I was so wrong, since joining the boards I have found myself interested in so many diff. books my head is spinning. So I just picked up my first two Planet Comics in high grade VF- range issue 50, and 55! I will post pics later next week when they arrive. Very excited, keeping up with my new found interests and the Jones's is expensive! 27_laughing.gif

That's the same way Billy Parker started out. So look at his collection and see yourself in ten years! A broke, surly, bitter old man with one incredible assortment of comics!

I've got the broke and bitter part down, and can do a great surly on demand, where do I go to pick up the books? Or do they mail them out to me? 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Just what you need. A complete, low grade reader collection to go with all your high grade books!

Now I gotta figure out where your avatar picture is from....... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

It's from All Good Comics, the Rick Evans story. It so small you can't read it but it says, "Global Command, calling Rick Evans. Come in Rick Evans". I think that Rick Evans cat is the bomb!

    Awesome!

how cool is that, you got your own comic poke2.gif

  4. Since you appreciate the strip characters, you should be all over the New Comics 1 in the Marketplace!
There's this little thing about not having $$$...

    I hear ya bro.

    Full wallet or Tec 27?

    Sill happy with your choice?

No doubt. If I only owned Tec 27 and Batman 1, I would still be the happiest collector on the planet. The fact that I have a bunch more makes me even more euphoric.

If I only had Rick's money though.... grin.gif

I assume you mean Rick Evans money smile.gif

    rick

He meant Rick Evans' ex-wife's money!

  5. NICE score, P5!!! That book is definitely a must-have in my books. Great FINE cover!

Golden age comics really are addicting. It's scary. crazy.gif

It really is scary ... is there a Golden Age Betty Ford Clinic around anywhere? I may need to check in ...

I wonder how many people have gone to rehab for collectibles addiction. Serious question. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

There was a British University study done a number of years back that found that mold spore in old paper is hallucinogenic. It was done in with libraries in mind but obviously old comics can and have been exposed to mold. The bigger your collection, the greater the possibility. More books = greater trips = desire for more books!

  6. Thought you guys might get a kick out of this picture. The big stack on the right is a full run of Jungle Comics.

Beautiful covers! Great Pages! And I really love the spines! Hooray Ciorac!!!!!!!

(You can tell Jungle spines from a mile away!)

Those look like Wings spines. Look half-way down. Looks like a Wings 34 to me. What do you think?

    S

Wings wasn't that tall of a run....

Yeah, and Wings spines have an airy quality about them. That book just doesn't seem to have it. But it might be a stray Fight.

  8. Or is this wagging?

That is what Houston funny book store owners do to attract attention is order to make sales

something you should do in private makepoint.gif

BZ is a lot more knowledgeable and been around the block quite a few times than some here have made him out to be bumpit.gifbumpit.gif

    Bob,

My point was more in regards to the fact that he has made it pretty clear he would like to keep his identity quiet. You are obviously the smartest man on the planet and were able to figure his identity out. Bully for you, now keep it to yourself. We already know how brilliant you are.

  9. Perma-grin has set in for me. CGC just sent me a picture of my grail (I had them image it since my scanner hates slabs)! I was praying for a 9.0... thought it would probably get an 8.5 and feared getting something lower... just goes to show that I'm still not that great at grading. Top Census baby!!

    Beautiful Book! Congrats!

  10. yo Mr BZ

I have figured it out, I know you, yer secret ID is safe with me

    - it has been a while, but i recognize the cabinets with all them fabulous funny books

    - You have well over a thousand neat comics, you showed many of them to me when i was at yer place for dinner some time back, i think yer wife was still carrying child at the time,

have fun with the listers here, they aren't easily amused

    - as you have brightened up the day(s) for a lot of them, from the looks of it

welcome, old timer, from an other old timer here, and i still remember the bated breath of paging thru RBCC when each issue showed up. It was truly the center of the comics universe for so many of us who discovered GB Love's zine. I bought my first Alter Ego 5 7 8 from GB's Ye Olde Fanzine Shoppe, the true earliest origins of the Direct Sales Market

and i thank you for the Superman newspaper articles xeroxes which showed up - they were much appreciated then, and still are yay.gif

Just curious, wouldn't a PM have been better?

    Or is this wagging?

  11. ht4.jpg

I love the cover on this book. I think it is a little under-appreciated.

Please feel free to answer in as little or as much detail as you would like. (Or not answer at all if you'd prefer not to) But where do you even find books like these? Wow... if I had access to books like those I'd be completely broke in less than 24 hours. Absolutely amazing. There have been lots of incredible books posted on these boards (especially lately) but that little run of scans right there is probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen.

    Filter,

That's the best compliment yet! Remember, I am older than dirt (but not as old as Parker!)...and bought most of these back when golden age was less than 50 years old. Also, take a look at an Overstreet from 1990 and see what Timelys were priced at. I got this book at San Diego in the early '90's for about a grand. And that was over guide!

  12. a few more of these; just stuck this over on timely thread, but it's a fit here as well.

Wow Billy... all those color copies turned out great, and I especially like the two in a fortress.Your printer must be out of red & yellow ink though huh?

Gosh,Russ, what kinda of brown nosing suck up are you! Billy, will you post this in the Little Lulu thread next?

  13. Okay. So I was asked to post this last night. I pulled out a few other goodies as well.

    So without further adoo........

you've inspired me to go to the bank MrB---1 + 91=

pardon the quality of the group pic; i tried, repeatedly, to make it better. i need ciorac over here. Pons, if you can improve it remotely like you did once before, be my guest.

Ciorac is at my house this weekend and he says you are a showoff! He would never want to improve your pictures. Then you might get the bighead!

Begrudgingly, we say, yeah I guess that's pretty neat.

  14. Mr. B I don't want to get interupt the posting sequence but I'm hoiping you have a few high garde copies of issues #16 and #74 to share with us. popcorn.gif

16 as soon as it is slabbed. I sold the White Mountain 74 two years ago. I now have very few Timelys after 1944.

That is a gorgeous copy, 6.0 if my memory serves me correct?

Yes, and killer pages. It had a tiny little chip on the bottom right corner of the front cover. That was one of the toughest decisions!
