Signature Series Noob Thread READ HERE BEFORE STARTING THREAD
Falcon Apoda replied to Pirate's topic in The Signature Room
I have a general question about submitting CGC-encapsulated books for signing. Do books usually come back with the same grade as submitted? I understand that they do get graded again once the case is opened and the book is signed. But how often are they down-graded, and, if they are, do you get any notes about that from CGC, or just receive a downgraded book, and a "Dem's da breaks. kid."? -
Overspray, or...?

In the same submission, there were other books that I thought were in as good (if not better) condition that came in at 9.4. No ink blotches. So I guess I suck at grading. -

By the way, it came in at 9.6, blotch and all. -
PGM Star Wars #1 (1 of 2)
Falcon Apoda replied to Falcon Apoda's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Thanks. What's keeping it down, do you think? -
2 of 2. This was part of a 2-book lot. Hadn't seen pictures of inside pages before I purchased for (probably) too much. Thanks.

PGM Star Wars #68 (v2)

I agree. It really is a nice book, except for the color breaking crease. And that tear. Actually, I'm currently attempting to return the book on General Principle, as this tear was not evident from the seller's photos. Anyway, thanks. -

And yet... 3.5? Really? No offense, but looking for second opinions. I was hoping this one might be an 8-range after pressing, but I could be delusional here. -
5.0 seems a harsh. Anyone else agree with this?

Yeah, this one was a mistake. From the seller's photos, this looked like a pressable defect, but when I opened the package, I could quickly see this was a very expensive "reader" copy. Damn. -
Considering having this one pressed, but that right side cover damage (second to last photo) is breaking my heart. As always, thanks.

Thanks. Anything pressing can improve?

Hoping this one is better than the last one. Writing on back cover is in pencil and should come out in pressing. Thanks.

Thanks. Reason I ask is because i recently submitted some other SW books (Marvel 1-7) that I felt were 9.0-ish for pressing via CGC in the hopes that they might achieve a higher grade. For the most part these books had some non-color breaking cover dings, bends, etc, so I went for it. But then I've been reading that one shouldn't get books pressed if they're already in good shape. Wasn't sure if this was a matter of exposure to potential damage or if it had to do with reaching the point of diminishing returns. It seems the latter is the case - for this book, anyway. -

Can pressing ever hurt a book, or is it just a matter of wasting money?
